Is it worth restarting?

Post » Mon Sep 21, 2015 1:12 am

After putting 40+ hours into my character, i feel like ive made a mistake. My main reasons for wanting to restart are
1) I immaturely called my character pvssywrecker (i was 12)
2) I made my character a high elf but now i know about the Thalmor i cant help feeling hes evil.
3) I want to play with more diversity instead of focusing on heavy armour.

So my question is should i restart my game and if so what race do you recommend i should play as??

Whether or not you restart is an entirely personal choice. I've restarted many times, occasionally simply because i didn't happen to like the character. That being said, there are a couple of questions come to mind.

Let's start with the race. Not all High elves are Thalmor, and many actively oppose the Thalmor... at least until the Tahlmor catches up to them... You'll hear tales of mass executions of Altmer done by the Thalmor here and there. Being an Altmer does not necessairly make him evil.

How you want to play the character is extremely important, so if you've invested a lot of training or skill perks and such into heavy armor, you might be better off restarting... but it's kind of difficult to say for sure. Sometimes a mix of armor can be interesting, though it messes up a couple of perks if you do mix them.

As to the name... If you're on PC you can change that, if you're on console, you're stuck. It could be interesting if your mother or a girlfriend sees that name though... Not to mention a little sister, eh? ;)

All of the races have their good and bad points, and while many of us have a preference, there really isn't much of a preference across large numbers of players.

Yes, restart a new character because You do not enjoy playing Your first character.

Skyrim is for the Nords, but do You like Burning, or Smashing, or Stealing?

It seems you don't like your current character.

So, it will be no fun to play and grind that way.

So, definitely start over. (even if you have spent 40 hours)

Doing everything on Skyrim (including the DLCs) you can spent more that 400+ hours on that game. !!!

> I want to play with more diversity <

You may wanna make different characters then.

For doing that, you wanna use a tool like those below:

You can easily get a long playtime with this game just wandering around and having fun - exploring or doing guild quests or crafting or whatever you want.

If you're only concerned with finishing the main quest you're missing the point entirely. !!!

Side quests and exploration are where it's at for those kind of games. :D

It seems to me you've already answered your question. You're not sure you'd be interested in doing it again. If you think you won't enjoy it a second time, don't do it a second time. It's as simple as that. You can always change your mind later on. There's nothing that says you have to do a main quest at the beginning of a game. Do something else to start with. If you feel like doing the main quest later, do it later. It's up to you.

Think of the game like a story you are telling. Is your character a hero, a simple man that gets caught up slaying vampires, could he/she be an assassin or thief? Or a Nordic patriot that helps one side or the other in the civil war?

Generally speaking I only do one or two quest lines per character. And sometimes I simply do my own thing and be an explorer. You don't have to do everything with one character, I've been playing since release and still have not done every quest or seen every cave or dungeon.

If you ...say do The Civil War with a light, 2h... then you could do Dawnguard with a heavy, sword and shield (or light). Different characters, different personalities.

Try different types of play styles doing different things... Just have fun, that's most important.

If you rush through the main quest, probably not.

You barely scratched the surface...my friend.

Just read what Skyrim has to offer below, and that's only related to characters !!!

Hiya Glenbabaps - welcome to the forums and the game. You are in for a ton of fun.

I've played many times without doing the MQ and thoroughly enjoyed those alternative adventures. Now that you've completed the MQ, try something different instead of repeating it. I put off the Dawnguard quest for a very long time because I don't like vampires/undead etc. but it turned out to be my favorite part of the vanilla game. My second favorite is the Thieve's Guild out of Riften - you have to be clever and sneaky for that one instead of a warrior!

Happy Gaming!

Edit: By the way, restarting Skyrim is totally common. It's not like you've lost or been defeated. It's just a way to try something different and see if it's more fun.

Create a living home

With this official add-on to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you can purchase land and build your own home from the ground up.

From a simple one-room cottage to a sprawling compound complete with an armory, alchemy laboratory, stable, garden, and more.

Use all-new tools like the drafting table and carpenter's workbench to transform quarried stone, clay, and sawn logs into structures and furnishings.

Even transform your house into a home by adopting children.

There are "hundreds of hours of content" to play with.

So, something goes wrong with your first gameplay. !!!

Ahh forgotten to say, you can play as a Vampire Lord or a Werewolf as well...

So sit back and ENJOY the ride...

And theirs nothing like deciding to do Conpanions, then running your werewolf character through Dawnguard. ...cause your wolf hates vampires.

Or your mage deciding they are going to do CoW and then become a vigilant of Stendar and run Dawnguard that way.

There are many many possibilities of different types of characters.

When you get to know the game mechanic's well enough, turn your settings down so that a torch or light spell is needed in caves or at night. Turn your HUD off, turn the footsteps off...it gives the game a new menacing feeling, you have to know your character.

Hahahahaha pvssywrecker  As amusing as that is, yeah, I understand why you'd want to restart with another character. That would be the reason enough for me. You don't have to be evil if you're an altmer. Heck, I played one that was actively hunting the Thalmor down.

It's concerning that a twelve year old would know what a "pvssy" is in that context, let alone think up such an expression. Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all a prude or PC (although I do play on one ), but children shouldn't know about six to those extremes...

The most I knew about at that age were boobs due to Page 3 Girls (i.e. topless models in our newspapers).

Ironically, the older you get the less it's that big a deal. Teenagers seem to be the ones who are obsessed with playing babes and dressing their followers up like strippers. But once you get out of your teens and become more mature you start to think about the adventure much more. You then start RPing and thinking about characterisation. Take me, for example. I dress all my female warrior followers up in all encompassing protective armour, and my female mages look like little monks! For me it's all about their characters and relationships with my Dragonborn. Rather than creating Dragonborn babes I base my Dragonborn on characters like El-Cid, Ben Hur, King Arthur, Henry V etc. I also like to have a group that're the best followers for my Dragonborn based on their skills and personalities, not their gender and looks.
