Worthless Companions

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 7:23 pm

I took I believe it was Ria from the companions on a quest, I gave her Legandary Sword, Bow, and Shield and she spent the entire quest on her knees yeilding ?? Mjoll is an Axe Wielding Argonaut who can clear a room faster than me after eating Taco Bell !! But shes drives me nuts talking. Any one no a quiet Companion who isn't a professional victim ??

Companions do not level with the player. No way around this on console but there's ways to force them to reskill on pc (console, click NPC, type deactivate, enter, type activate but make sure u take their stuff then give it back)
Otherwise, just find new companion when current one's useless. I don't however know how to shut them up :/

If you have a PC.

1. Disband them first.
2. Open console
3. Click on companion
4. type 'disable'
5. type 'enable'

The companion should be nice and leveled up.

Less chatty followers:

setgamesetting fIdlepvssyrCommentTimerMax 300

You have to do it every time game loads, so it's easier when using a bat. I explain how to use those http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1313683-how-to-useful-information-for-pc/page__p__19752720#entry19752720, if you're interested.

I like Ogol.

He's a good tank and he doesn't talk much.

Well, I'm sorry, but you didn't mention that. Now that you have, all I can say is that I believe the timer is bugged. It's set up to have them talk every 10-20 seconds, and with Mjoll, the volume is especially loud. I'd say that this is something you may wish to mention on a bug thread, and to have patience. Though even with all the patience in the world, it may never be 'solved', because it would probably be seen as low-priority among the other issues, or may not even be acknowledged. Other than that, I can offer no assistance, other than to grab a less-chatty companion. Faendal rarely ever speaks.

Borgahk the Steel Heart at Morgashbur (not sure on the name, it's the stronghold north-ish of Markarth) is damned powerful. She uses a sword and shield, doesn't talk often, isn't a passive-aggressive [censored], and can rip through crowds of trash enemies.

Although, it may depend on when you go to recruit her. Companions have their level set to the level when you encountered them, so if you found Ria at level 2, she'd be level 2, while Mjoll might be level 20.

J'zargo of the College of Mages is a fun companion.
He likes to hold back and fire spells even though he has 100 in One Handed and 40 in heavy armor, and 300 carryweigt.
My Player level is about 63.

I recommend checking companion ratings in their skills including carryweight when deceiding is this the right companion to have along.

Yeah, I'm kind of fond of Lydia but I've outleveled her so much that she's worthless in battle, so I just traded her for Benor from Morthal. He's good with heavy armor and two-handed weapons and very strong, is very quiet and it's easy to recruit him, just beat him in a fist-fight and he'll be your best friend. The only thing annoying about him is sometimes when you bump him he'll yell "Hey!" all indignantly, scared the crap outta me the first time he did it.
