worthless items.

Ya the marked as stolen was way worse than stuff being worthless. The only way to make anything off of the junk was to join the thieves guild and fence it. You could use sigil stones and enchanting altars to enspell stolen equipment and jewelery. Once the enchantment was applied they weren't stolen any more.

This isn't much use to your average 3rd level though.

One thing about oblivion that bothered me was the huge amount of items that were worth 0 gold. I'd break into somebody's house and and start stealing everything only to realize I had to just give most of it all away. Make the items worth at least 1 gold piece each. If you're going to have worthless items you can't even sell for a buck they may as well not even be in the game.

I agree 100% and this is something they should really do , is nonsense to have stuff valued in 0 gold :turtle:

Seems like they have a nice economy/merchant system in place.

The problem with silver and copper is that it doesn't fit well with the "OMG SMASH LOL" gamer. Requires a couple of brain cells to add up to 100.

Worthless clutter is fine by me. I still want objects to interact with even if they are not worth any gold.

I couldn't disagree more. I liked that in Oblivion items that are worthless were worthless. Take a used glass out of your cupboard and see how much you can sell it for.

Go to a store. Do they give glasses away for free?

It also seems weird that thousands of plates are of less worth than one puny arrow.

Have you ever tried to sell the glass to the store yourself?

Have you ever tried haggling with the shopkeeper?

EDIT: Oblivion doesn't use the fixed price most stores have today.

It is more of a market like business.

Why are we bringing real stores and their systems into this? Completely different things.

Well I was just using a modern day referrence to make a logic arguement that not everything has value, especially used items found in people homes. I have no clue what point Jolly Good was making with his; do stores give glasses away for free? comment.

So why do people think that items that would logically have zero value have a higher value? Theiving, just like pimping..... ain't easy.

Yeah, with the new economy system if you want cups and pewter forks to be worth something, just steal all of them, then the town will have a horrible pewter fork shortage rofl, then maybe you will get that 1 gold you want so much.

I'm totally OK with worthless items. Seriously, why would you steal and sell something worth one gold anyway? Why waste the time? I stole stuff everywhere I went, but focused on items that actually made sense to steal (i.e. earned significant profit). How much would you pay for one used stainless steel fork in the real world? I wouldn't pay a nickel.

I think the 0 gold was to simulate the fact that the general traders in the game simply would not purchase a bunch of clay pots from some dude walking in off the street, and you certainly wouldn't be able to fence them.

Maybe they should add a more complex monetary system with copper, silver, gold, etc. Then those items that really aren't worth a gold could still then have some value, like a few coppers, or something.

Yes!

The stuff had no value as it was all junk.

You think it was a problem, they didn't. Therefore if you don't like it mod it.

If you break into my house are you going to take my dishes or my jewelery? In a poor person's house you find junk, in palaces you find silver.

Your argument is flawed.

His argument is far from flawed. He's right.

I partly agree. Remember, in the real world you sometimes have to pay people to take away things you don't want. Old electronics are a great example. Who wants to buy cheap well used dinner wear?

I like clutter in the game and when stealing, go for the expensive things! You don't break into a house to steal a blank piece of paper, you want the skooma!

Honestly, money is easy enough to get in OB. There really is no need to have everything worth something. The stuff that I'd sell early game that was crap I wouldn't touch a third of the way through. My motto for stealing, or looting is this- "If the weight x 10 >= gold amount I keep it". If it's less I don't even bother picking it up. It's also pretty easy after an hour to tell the crap from they $$$, so it's really a non issue after you realize what's worth taking. In fo3 I took everything, and would have so many caps. It ruined the game for me. I'm glad not everything is worth 1$.

No, his argument is total flawed because just because something has some small amount of value does not mean a shopkeeper wants to pay for it and have it clogging up inventory space when even when he does sell it, it will give him little to no profit.

It's not a question of the value of the items, the question is, what is the value of the items to people who buy/sell/trade.

Why? Alot of people keep stating this but provide no logical reason why.

What kind of economy is that where there is always some one willing to buy what you are selling. That is totally illogical. I have some magical beans for sale...wanna buy them?

I never had a problem with worthless items though I would have liked to see less of them in crates and barrels. I'd rather have an empty barrel. Though it did take some getting used to after Morrowind.

And sure, if someone makes a clay pot they aren't going to give it away, but if you then try to sell it (you know, to the merchant that might give you 200 septims for an item with a value of 350 septims) I doubt the merchant will give you a septim if they can only sell it for a septim. And I really don't want different currencies. Septims are fine.
