@Shinanagins - I agree, and from a business standpoint, it makes it easier to collect user data for marketing purposes. If someone was on the 360 for example, all you would have to do is import their 360 account like you see done on lots of sites.
The priority of course would be on getting the Ingame Avatars look from the customization file to populate the Web Avatar. That is pretty cool integration and only a couple companies do this. PS3's Mod Nation Racers is one I can think of right off the bat.
But by having access to peoples accounts, Crytek could then see who was buying there game, what part of the world they are from, how many hours they are playing it, what trophies/achievements they complete, etc..
Although I am sure there is some controversy that could be forseen in getting the data, if Crytek used it to market and developer there games/patches/dlc, the consumer would end up much happier and the company could be far more profitable.
Lets be honest, Waypoint for Bungie is exactly that in disguise.
