If anyone remembers, I'm creating my own science fiction universe. Anyway, I'm now at the point where I think I'm ready to start posting some of my work on teh interwebz. So, I made a wiki. I know that you guys are not afraid to be critical (In a good way of course :D) so I was wondering if anyone would be able to read this page and point out anything that they would recommend to be changed or cleared up (As I often explain things in a way that noone else understands due to things sounding different in my head.)

It's a large wall O'text, so if you only skim or read the first paragraph, I won't be too bothered.

Thanks, in advance!

So, I'm not big on Sci-Fi things like spacey stuff, so my opinions don't matter much. (FYI, I did like the lore personally)

I will say this though, consider dropping the 'earth' part of things, it just feels clunky. For example:

United Colonies Defense Force- UCDF

United Colonies Army- UCA

United Colonies Navy- UCN

United Colonies Marine- UCM (Or UCMC if you use Marine Corps)

United Colonies Air Force- UCAF

See, the 'E' feels weighty in a clunky way, IMO.

Also, I'm not sure why the Navy would extend to being space ships as well. Seems odd to me, sounds like that would still be the domains of the Army or the Air Force to me, but hey, it's your story, buddy.

The Navy would have the experience with large groups in closed quarters on ships. I guess.

Most sci-fi settings seem to have the Navy as the Space branch of the military. It probably stems from older works in the genre.

Oh yeah? Well, like I said, It's not my genre really. (I don't hate it, but seldom read futuristic sci-fi. Just not a big appealing genre to me) But if Navy it is, Navy it is.

Hmm. Luckliy, I haven't got much in pictures saying UCEDF so it would be fairly easy to remove.

And any feedback is better than no feedback! Thanks!

Eh? :P
Sci-fi is a pretty broad genre. But to each their own, it isn't my favorite genre either, but I do enjoy it. It does have a lot of odd tropes in it though. I would think they would just create a new branch of the Military when we went into space. Tropes.

I have a big notebook full of all my ideas n'stuff (Such a pain to sift through and type) but my navy is partially space and ocean, due to a subclass of ships able to submerge to under the water and up into space, and I thought having another branch would be too tedious.

Added note; I have been considering changing them to United Imperium Defence Force, United Imperium Army etc, and adding another branch strictly for nonhumans, but I've still not settled on it. So initials would be UIDF, or something similar.

Retro-futuristic things are neat, but things like Star Wars and interplanetary things of that nature don't hold my capture. Well, not the more modern styled stuff.

Fair enough. Sometimes it is good to work within tropes though, so a Space Navy is not a bad thing at all. It eases a reader into the understanding of how it works, by playing on their assumptions and experiences in other sci-fi settings. That allows you to more organically introduce the concept or 'thing' to the reader, without having to go into unnecessary detail. Someone who has played Mass Effect, for instance, will be familiar with a lot of the sci-fi Naval jargon because one; they have likely experienced Naval ideals in various accounts and two; many sci-fy settings will have used similar jargon and adapted it to their needs.

You probably already knew that though. I am just trying to be productive here.
