it would be awesome if skyrim used euphoria

Post » Fri Jul 29, 2011 8:30 pm

for those who dont know what euphoria is, see this movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6F3lT1v79I&NR=1
i think skyrim should use euphoria, because one think oblivion wasnt good at was death, ragdolls svcks, euphoria would give a much more interesting and dinamic experience to the game i think, dragons would react even more realisticly then they already do, giants failing would look fantastic, well the overall fighting would be alot more entertaining than it already is, what do you think?
when we kill that draugr with 2 handled lightning bolts the physics were horrible, with euphoria at least, instead of flying around, this draugr could have simply died because of the high intesity of the eletricity, but flying away? well, ragdolls are really outdated.

sorry for my really bad inglish.

Yeah, I think we all agree there. Infact I think I saw a thread on this here a few months ago.

Actually, when you die in real life, you also ragdoll. Well, when it's a kill shot at least.

It would be awesome, but due to the amount of money, I'm betting the next TES game will have it.

lol, ragdolls are way more "doll" than human like, but i got your point, what do alive beings praise more in their lifes? their lifes, so yea, the self preservation thing in wich euphoria is based off is incredible, and it fully uses physics. is perfect for skyrim.

Euphoria means better hitboxes and alot more time to make a good game because the animations are automanaged by the Ai

Anythings better than Havok. Why Bethesda keeps going back beats me. Of coarse while I love Euphoria and watching it evolve from GTA 4 to RDR. I think what's in the way is possibly it would be too hard to integrate into Bethesda's games/Skyrim and/or

And this is a big one, licensing costs.

They keep going back to Havok because it's mainstream.

Possibly, knowing others have used it helps. However Bethesda looks towards Rockstar Games a lot I see. And why wouldn't they, very prestigious studios for the work they do.

Integration could be it. Their used to Havok's base and how it works. Plus again Euphoria might not handle their open-end world NPC/player character needs.

Just as why Skyrim isn't using iD Tech 5.

But my money is largely on licensing costs. Euphoria isn't that well adopted even with all the praise it gets. Plus Bethesda had the chance to license Havok's cloth physics but it didn't.

So I think money is the biggest factor.

Impressive tech demo. I wonder how CPU-intensive would it be...

But that + Havok Cloth = NPC awesomeness.

The game uses Havok Behavior, which is basically the same as Euphoria, only they go about things in a slightly different manner.

1) I loved it when the guy flew away after being hit. That was epic.

2) Something that some don't understand, Euphoria governs AI, not physics. Euphoria is ragdoll physics, combined with AI.

3) Ok, ya, that would be epic. :)

They are exactly the same end result, the only difference is that the Euphoria demo is presented in "Even people who do not understand squat about designing games or these systems can understand mode" and the Havok demos are presented in a manner that developers understand.

No, I mean the animation there really does look like [censored]. In both ones. The YouTube one should be obvious and in the other one the falling enemies behave exactly the same. That just looks awkward. Apparently they don’t randomize this at all.

Way too late to implement that.

I found this system a bit clunky, if you got hit by a car in GTA you would continue to limp about with no control of your character for a few seconds. Really annoying, though it did allow countless hours of fun in multiplayer.

I found it funny that you english was fine until you spelled english wrong :P

Thats exactly what I mean Euphoria used production quality animations as their base to give their tech an Ohhh Perty! quality while glossing over what the tech can actually do beyond the generic hit detection and blending -> while Havok uses animations created by programmers (read [censored] anims) and iterated over what the tech is actually capable of -> huge difference you look and go Ohhh Perty!, I look and all I see is Jail Bait it looks good for a fledgling product but when compaired to Havok Behavior's Tech based demos the much older mature product from the perspective of an animator I see a useful tool set.

Then why is it that they can’t come up with decent animations of that level :> ?

It's no use making assumptions based on a nice looking demo. you can make nice demos with just about any tech if you put enough time and effort into it.

The Euphoria demo is obviously meant to impress gamers. It doesn't say anything about the workflow involved or how that tech can help developers work faster and better. The Havok demo on the other hand is all about how it can help developers and integrate into existing tools and workflows, which is relevant to getting stuff done.

I'm not trying to say Euphoria isn't any good. It's just that a very polished demo with a lot of wow factor doesn't mean anything in regards to how good or fitting a particular tech is.

Lagoa is not a game based physics engine its for 3d apps SoftImage specifically although Autodesk has Licensed the software so we will most likely see a Max/Maya version in future releases or at least as a plugin, I seriously doubt we will ever see a game use this its just not suitable to that purpose.

And I know must hate you because you got me stuck in Tech demos for 30 minutes :), still very impressive bit of software Lagoa is I am going to look forward to this being usable within Max in the future, hopefully.
