Would Being a Dunmer in DC be Weird?

Post » Sun Mar 30, 2014 2:18 am

I really like dunmer and I will most likely be playing it at launch. Though I was intending to play in EP, lately Ive been thinking of going DC at launch.

The question is: How weird would it be to be a dunmer in DC, is there any way in lore that this would work? Will I feel like the only non Breton/Orsimer/Redguard?

Though more so in some and less so in others, there's a mix of all races in the various provinces. The Covenant lands might not be home to many dunmer, but there will be a few. (For that matter, some lore-NPC dunmer lived there.)

On the starter island alone I can recall 3 or 4 Dunmer NPC's right away. As for players, it will be a minor percentage. Partially due to only pre-orders having the option, partially due to the majority playing on the default faction.

Don't let the "lore" blind you. In every TES game there were NPC's in guilds/factions/areas that were very much not forced into a set location.

Edit: Not to mention you've never been locked out of the option. Khajiit Neravarine? Sure! Orismer Dragonborn? Why not?

Not nearly as strange as a Dunmer working with Nords and Argonians.

I could see a Dres merchant being disgusted at the loss of the slave trade joining DC to assert merchant rights.

Not weird at all, create your own back story and rock it out!

If you're going by lore, a dunmer would not be working with the Nords and they'd be enslaving the Argonians so do what you want.

As much as someone that is paying attention to lore would be initially inclined to cringe at races being in the "wrong" faction, they DID deliberately leave your character's past undetermined...

so, from a roleplaying standpoint, who's to say HOW your character got to where they were? NOW- that doesn't mean RPers won't react strangely.

Drizzt Do'Urden is a perfect example- when he fled the Underdark, he had a pretty hard time on the surface as people hated the drow (with good reason)- but... he was still there and once his renown got high enough, it became less of an issue with people that were familiar with the story behind the white haired dark elf with the mystical black panther running across Spine of the World killing orcs.

So, I would say from a RPing standpoint, as long as you have a lore friendly way for how you got where you got, it "makes sense", but, again, it doesn't mean you would be accepted or even comfortable and you would most certainly face some form of persecution.

I did roll an Altmer in Skyrim who sided with the Stormcloaks...rather accepting group of people.

Yeah, skyrim sure is a stupid game sometimes.

They hate Altmer, it's gamebreaking.
