Would demo recording save/sustain Crysis 2

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 2:04 pm

I was wondering with Crysis 2 current state of popularity and minor fixes required. If the devs for a final release of something to this game would at the very least have a demo recording system released.

I'm thinking that at least with that, Fan based videos would be much easier to make to show off the game on youtube, and more importantly competition can feel alot more legit and become more popular.

As long as demo's can be recorded, fan sites etc can hold legit tourni's with an easy ability to review cheats or make vids.

The devs would not even actually have to come out with some anti-cheat because the ability for competitions to police its self with its own rules would be much much easier. And future mods that become popular can easily be added to competition or shown off.

I was wondering what people thought of that idea, and if people thought the devs cared enough about their own creation to leave it with something that fans can use to help keep what popularity it has and maybe increase it once again at a later date.

They could at least make an actual spectator mode, one where you could actually SPY on someone's view.

Demo recording would be nice but wouldn't save the game... what would save the game is more patches and maps

The thing is players can build the maps, and the patches, well things like the laser exploit would just be outlawed by anyone running any kind of ladder, same as normal cheats, and if they use it, a demo can be demanded for proof like with other games. Alot of stuff would probably be policed, publicized and in some cases made better by the fans. The fans have the editor, but I think need a demo recorder to complete the tool set.

Well if they brought the game back to Steam and put it on a heavy discount it would probably inject new life into the game as well though I don't see that happening any time soon, knowing EA...

Yes, fans can "patch" the game.
But how are you going to make every single server host use the "patch" mod?

Not to mention that you can't have patched ranked servers.

Auto-download custom maps/mods ftw.

Totally agree there, much easier being 1 click away. I've had alot of friends not buy it just because it was not on steam.

I'm wondering if a ladder required a certain patch-mod, and had a link to a DL, players that are concentrating on one ladder or ladders using the same mod would just patch their server for it. As not all the teams would have to patch necessarily, just most or half. (which is still alot)

If there are weapon/mod restrictions in a match, there wont really have to be a patch as a demo can be offered as evidence.

Though I would like to know, if when you patch your game, can you still play other servers that have not been patched. EG, I have 1 map pack, I can still play non patched and the servers that have a map pack, but not the ones with the other map pack. So would getting all the patches allow me to play all the types of servers? or will it cause issues.

As for the ranking, that is an issue. Forgetting about the ranking table, it would just mean you cant level up. I'm pretty stumped on that one tbh.

Oh yeah, forgot about this. Just get some more people making maps, and an auto-downloader would work wonders. If I had to manually download every single modified file on a server, I would never have been able to play Unreal Tournament multiplayer :P
