Would dragons always breathe fire?

C'mon, if Bethseda can do frost spiders, frost waiths, why not frost dragons? Or different kinds of dragons...

Or are they already confirmed?

Yes its possible todd said that dragons abilities are just speech so its possible like when he breaths fire hes actually talking in the dragon tongue.

While in the trailer I can't hear the dragon saying anything when breathing fire, it does sound like the dragon fire breath is just a dragon shouts, and dragons can use other shouts as well, so it does seem like we'll see dragons use other abilities, whether it will be other breath attacks or not I guess depends on whether there are other breath attack type shouts or not, but they'll probably be able to use some of the other shouts that exist in the game.

Aren't there something like twenty shouts with three words each and each word has a power associated to it. I think the total variations are around sixty. I would assume that the other energy effects would be represented.

Todd Howard has said that there are around two dozen (24) shouts. Each word of the three word shout adds a new level of power to that shout. So, Fus Ro Dah (the shout in the trailer) is stronger than both Fus and Fus Ro.

Ohhhhhhhh..... it is their form of speech/ attack so it would be different... what do you think the dragon in the trailer said, "I'm gonna eat you up!"?

My favorite from the old D&D P&P days was the Green Dragon, also known as Draco Chlorinous Nauseous Respiratorus. It breathed poisonous chlorine gas.

Blue Dragon (Draco Electricus) lightning breath, Red Dragon (Draco Conglagratia Horriblus) fire breath, White Dragon (Draco Rigidus Frigidus) frost breath, Black Dragon (Draco Causticus Sputem) acid breath, etc. and so on.

If you go back to the old D&D days dragons definately by default do not breath fire. Having a White/Frost Dragon in ES-V would be cool and I'm sure it will be modded in if it doesn't come in the main game.

Fus Ro Dah = Force Balance Push; it's a dragon shout called Unrelenting Force.

Each word isn't another power, it just becomes stronger if you link two or three words of the same shout together.

It was once possible to mix and match different Shouts, but that was taken out because Bethesda thought it would be too "confusing" :bonk:

You say this as if they ever got it to work in a way that's fun. It's more likely they never found a good way to implement it, so rather than add a bad feature they didn't.

The player used that one, he asked what the dragon said, no one knows what the fire breathing shout is yet. (unless I missed it somewhere.)

That's several orders of magnitude easier to implement than trying to implement a system that accounts for dozens of different shouts based on what words you use.

) There Will be Some Spell Combining

It seems that there will be some sort of rudimentary spell combo system, based on some of the stuff we see Howard pull off. Putting a heal spell in each hand resulted in an ultra-heal spell of sorts. A note-quite-as-flashy-but-still-interesting scenario had Howard casting detect life and then an unspecified spell from the Illusion tree -- one that caused enemies to attack each other. Again, it's not flashy, but it was nice to have the detect life show you all the bad guys nearby, then to cast that illusion spell from afar and watch the mayhem through walls or hills without making any actual contact with the enemy.

The most interesting combination that Howard casted was a circle of protection paired with a chain lightning; this caused any foe to be instantly zapped whenever they attempted to close in for a melee attack. Until we get a deeper demo or some hands-on time ourselves, we don't quite know how deep the spell combination system can get, but it already looks pretty snazzy.

Oops, I lost control over my hands when I typed that previous reply. Yeah, the "fire breathing" dragon shout's words are unknown as of now,
