Your character could take the view that the Empire betrayed the Blades by negotiating what you could view as outright surrender to the Thalmor, including the dissolution of the famous order. Also, the current Blades don't seem to give half a lick about the Empire. So it could very well work.

The bigger question, which you often see in this forum, is this: can you choose the Blades over the Greybeards? The Blades are indeed about dragon-killing, more like fans of the Akaviri Dragonguard than the Emperor's Secret Service that they had been throughout the Septim dynasty. But the Greybeards, who help you nurture your Dragonborn powers, are led by a dragon - and one that is a specific target of the Blades' crusade.

No because the empire doesn't hate Talos, they just threw him under the rug to get peace with the Thalmor. A huge mistake by Titus Mede II and my nord made him pay for that one. If the empire would've contacted Hammerfell and got them, High Rock and Skyrim to join up fully then the Thalmor could've been stopped. Technically a lot of it is bad writing on Beth's part.

Here's a mindset: "Since the last of the Septim bloodline was murdered 200 years ago, the blades no longer has a purpose to protect the emperor, for Talos incarnate is no more." or "Talo's bloodline is no more" some bullcrap.
The empire represents the law, and their law now bans the worship of Talos. This can be considered a direct insult to the last "true" emperor. Therefore, the blades no longer has a purpose to serve the current Imperial empire.
Keep in mind, the blades not only protected the emperor (who represents Talos), but they were dragonslayers. They have a new purpose now.

I think so.

1. Ulfric doesn't stand for the way of the voice. He is rather a Greybeard rubbish.

2. The Imperials are allowing the slaughter of the Blades across the empire by the Thalmors.

3. Delphine and Esbern sit with the Stormcloacks at the peace treaty in High Hrothgar during the Season Unending.

you want my opinion, most guilds i believe do not support either side of the Civil War. that and i believe that the Blades vs Paarthurnax issue is more non-WotV vs WotV (Way of the Voice) and that the greybeards=Ancient Nordic Culture and Blades=Empire Culture. but it is up to Choice.

also think about it, the only reason that the Thalmor are allowed to do what they do is because Ulfric started making a big deal about Talos, otherwise the empire would allow people to worship in secret. Even the empire's top supporters worship Talos in secret and the Empire does not rat them out.

They also stay behind after the Stormcloaks leave to discuss just how you're going to trap a drac.

There are six parties present at that talk: The two in contention (Imperials and Stormcloaks), the Graybeards, the Blades, the Thalmor (which you can boot out), and... You The Dragonborn.

Another gray area of the ES games. Whence Martin sacrificed himself to raise the Avatar of Akatosh and defeat Mahrunes Dagon, the last of the Tiber Septim line were lost. The Blades had no purpose in the "New" Empire. it was forlorn for them and a bit exasperating as the "Hero" to watch their Noble Collective sink into insignificance.

The Blades needed not be involved with the "New" Empire, but did sit and watch and hide for keeping existence.

If they fully support the Stormcloaks, then they work to break Skyrim away from the Empire. This can lead only to make it harder to exist and to maintain "free" and secretive travel across Tamriel.

If they support the Empire in its current form, they stand to be found and eliminated more easily by the Thalmoor. It is not a great thing that the Empire does not do more to assist the survival of the Blades. And this alone is a great reason for the downfall of the Empire Leaders. Although it IS 200 years after the Blades lost relevance.

They must support both the Empire against the Aldmeri Dominion AND the Stormcloak right of the Worship of the DragonBorn God Talos.

A major Gray Area in Role Play
