Would I like Oblivion?

With Skyrim, I am new to the Elder Scrolls series. I only got Skyrim because I wanted something that was a little like Dragon Age: Origins and Skyrim seemed like the closest thing (though I know now that it's not very similar, but I loved Skyrim anyway). So, after playing Skyrim and it becoming my favorite game to play in recent months, do you think I would feel like I was taking a step back with Oblivion or would I like it? From the very little I've seen, some videos of the game look pretty decent in terms of graphics, while others look pretty dated. Mostly character face models. Basically, how does the game compare to Skyrim? Good, wide variety of weapons and armors? And how's the main story? Thanks.

I'd be on PS3, if it matters.

It matters. I wouldn't personally recommend Oblivion to any console player. Without mods I believe the game is totally useless.

I completely disagree with the poster above, although I play modded Oblivion these days, I've been playing completely vanilla game on PC for long time, not even knowing that mods exist. I don't have any problems with faces in Oblivion, that was never a disappointment for me, actually it's the opposite, it's possible to create a lot of different-looking characters with the sliders in Oblivion but it takes some experimenting and trial and error approach before you find out what do specific sliders affect. It's possible to create happy / sad / angry / depressed / evil / pretty / sixy / very sixy / ugly / disgusting / abominable characters with the creator, something that can't be said for some other games IMO. But as I said, it requires some time and patience.

I'm not familiar with PS3 but I know there's some vampirism-related bug that can't be solved. In any case I'd really recommend you to at least give Oblivion a fair chance and try it without expecting too much and most importantly, without comparing it to Skyrim, it's completely separate game and should be treated as such.

Good luck.

I've been playing Oblivion on PS3 for about 5 years now. Still love it.

That said, if you're given the option for becoming a vampire, just say no unless you want to be stuck that way forever. There is a cure, but it doesn't work. Something Bethesda did when they put in the GOTY edition together with the two DLC's. Vanilla Oblivion was ported by 4J.

I have no experience playing the game on a console.

The only thing I can suggest is looking for some videos showing some of the PS3 game play and go from there.

If you liked the combat from Skyrim than you are likely going to like the combat of Oblivion.

The magic system is better in Oblivion and you can cast spells with a weapon and shield equipped. You can create spells.

My 1st TES game was Skyrim and I decided after playing it extensively after its release to try Oblivion a few months ago. I'm still playing it now and am on my 3rd character and have to say I have enjoyed every moment of it just as much as Skyrim. So my advice would be to definitely give it a go, I'm sure you will enjoy it. I play on the 360 so no mods for me but I'm fine with the game the way it is.
