I would like to turn into a Dragon!

Post » Wed Dec 23, 2009 7:41 am

.. Since when have the ES games been about the main quest? I've played through Morrowind and Oblivion so many times and ignored the Main Quest ENTIRELY. It's an open-end game, if any game says it's RPG and forces me to do the main quest to do other things it makes me cry a little. It's a Role-Playing Game, if your character doesn't give a stuff about saving the world, then he shouldn't have to y'know? Linear Main Quest game=Boring. :(

Like I said, love the idea of turning into a dragon, doubt it'll happen. Nuff' said, I think this Thread is just turning into a small-scale war now. <.<

Mmm, would I want to turn into a dragon.... that is a tough one. On one hand, I think that becoming a dragon would be very interesting. On the other, I don't really think it would fit well in an Elder Scrolls game, although that is mostly because I'm used to being a regular sized individual.

Personally, I'd rather summon a dragon or mind-takeover a dragon, but that is just me. Of course, I wouldn't complain if such an event (turning into a dragon, that is) happened.

I understand that you learn about Dragons & Dragon shouts during the Main quest. You can't very well become a dragon without learning about them first.

While the idea is interesting and neat, I don't see it being implemented into this game. Sorry.

I did like becoming a dragon in http://www.mobygames.com/game/snes/breath-of-fire for battles, though.

Turning into a dragon? No.
Learning dragon-like spells and/or summons? Yes.

Summoning small drakes or whelps/ small dragons from the kind you killed would be awesome. Or big dragons as a once a day spell? Sounds fun. Turning intoo a dragon on the other hand is kind of tacky. Although i do think that being turned into a dragon for a specific quest would be awesome for like an hour lol.

Yes, I think this is one of the greatest features proposed. It would allow amazingly fun facets like flying and being able to perch on any structure or thing in the game. Especially if the mountains are very steep, it would allow access to perch at the highest peak. It would be so unique to be able to turn into one, instead of always being confined to playing as a person. It'd be hilarious as well to attack cities/monsters like spiders as a dragon and be invincible.

I don't want too. Sounds OP and would be a lot of effort to implement without it looking poor and choppy.

Eh, I think turning into a dragon in this game would be a case of awesome but impractical. I mean, sure you can fly, but...can you talk to any NPCs? No, they'd likely either flee or attack. Would you be able to go into any interiors or dungeons? Most definitely not. Can you cast spells or use enchanted items? Probably not. Would you be able to level up your skills? Of course not, you're not even using them. And knowing Bethesda, they might throw in some other annoying effects, such as not being able to use or pick up items while in dragon form. Outside of specific set pieces designed to accommodate them, about the only advantages I could see are improved Dragon Shouts (which you can use anyway), and flight, which would only really be useful for getting to otherwise inaccessible places.

Erm... Well, turning into a dragon? Bad, bad idea for the vanilla game (though probably one of the first mods to come out).

But Shapeshifting as a specialization in the Alteration school? By all means - that's what it always lacked, most regretfully. Not to mention how well it would go with lycanthropy and/or vampirism (I don't know why, but the Skyrim vampires always struck me as the shape-changing and mist-turning kind).

Not against the TES lore........?........ The last person to turn into a dragon ( Akatosh ) was Martin. after that the amulet of kings was gone, so probably noone can become dragon again.

In TES lore, shapeshifting is not a normal ability. You have werecreatures, and it occasionally happens to Bosmer for a ritual called the wild hunt, but it isn't something you can just do willy nilly.

He didn't turn into Akatosh. By sacrificing himself and the amulet of kings, he was able to summon the avatar of Akatosh.

However, in Akavir, it says that the tiger people (Ka po tun) are TRYING to become dragons, and so far, they have had some success, as Tosh Raka, the leader, has apparently managed to do so. So I assume there must be some way to achieve it (though itwould appear to be difficult to achieve), perhaps with some sort of divine intervention or special ritual.

he used the amulet to turn into an avatar of akatosh. and there was another one rumored to have been transformed into a dragon named rosh taka (a ka po tun)

but...according to lore, dragons have the ability to shapeshift in order to disguise themeselves.

and in skyrim we've learned that most of their abilities stem from the use of their language (dragon shouts)

since you can learn dragon shouts it's not an impossible thing to happen and it doesn't go against the lore.

*dismissive hand-wave*

Nah, lore should never stand in the way of awesomeness. Oblivion has brutally ra-ped the heck out of it anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter that much anymore.

you're right, it's not a normal ability. but apparently dragons do possess it.

maybe that particular dragon shout is rare since you wouldn't notice the dragon doing it unless he did it in front of you.

the most probable way to find out how to do it would be to find one of those tablets describing the shout which can only be read by those who possess the soul of a dragon.

and as luck would have it, you have one such soul.

I know, I was arguing against it being a part of a normal spell school there. It might make sense as Docakhiin, I just don't personally want it, since I think it would be an overpowered ability, and be hard to program without it looking bad or working bad.

how about making a dungeon for its acquisition, not just any dungeon, a fixed level 50 dungeon only unlocked at the later stages in the game.
if a player wants such an ability, he has to work for it.

your dragon form power could be something like this:

-able to fly

-biting for melee attacks (can't block while flying)

-as a dragon your only form of ranged attacks would be from dragon shouts (no magic and of course no bows)

-a timer for your dragon form, you could extend the timer by charging the shapeshifting dragon shout.

-physical power is a bit higher than your normal form but dragon shouts power would be unchanged as those are fueled by your soul not your body.

better yet play spiro

Was that meant in an degrading way?
Becaues I did and still do, so what?
Anyway, on topic.
I agree that it would not really fit into the game.. but if the were to actully put it into the game and make it work, that would make Skyrim one of the best games. And I also say someone should make a game were one does play as a dragon.
(And well.. I will be annoyed if all dragons are going to be displaid as purelly evil in this game.. but meh, its TES so I play it no matter what)

Welllll..... The game IS In first person... soo you would probably see ATLEAST one Major town when you fly. Wait for mods..... or Get The Scroll Of Icarian Flight (I think it was called like that)... THEN you will be like a dragon.....
