Would remastered for new consoles sell?

Post » Fri Mar 25, 2016 4:49 am

Would love to make this a poll question.

Do you think it would sell if Bethesda made a remastered version of Skyrim for the new consoles and at the same time made the 360 version forward compatible?

So for those that have and want to use their 360 or PS3 version they could just follow the current forward compatibility steps that the companies are using but for those that didn't get, or no longer have, the old console offer a remastered, reshouted :), version for the new consoles. Would it the remastered version sell?

I think more polished, less buggy, maybe even a bit of dlc Skyrim might sell. I'd be interested.

Bah. It takes long enough for them to roll out a brand new game, let alone doing remasters.

Sorry OP....this Q comes up in various forms at least every three weeks. Same answer....Skyrim is history now. No one is going to pour dev cash into revitalising a four year old game when they already have other new stuff on the burners.

The only good thing from such questions is that I suppose it might ( only might) come to the devs attention that a few people would pay for a new version. But frankly they are not going to care what a few die hard fans want. Now if a few million people said they wanted it...that might be different....that's greenbacks. Even then! Beth has a history of doing exactly as they please regardless.

The sad thing is in a couple years time I'm gonna be desperately asking Bethesda to make TES VI backwards compatible for the PS3 :nope:

It's amazing to think that a dusty old console game can now be played on mobile phones.

15 years ago when I was playing Super Mario 64 I never envisioned it being a handheld game.

It would sell. No ifs, no buts, it would print money. This has been discussed many times on various gaming forums and the general consensus is always the same. If Bethesda offered us Skyrim Remastered, people would jump on it day one.

Unfortunately, that doesn't mean it will happen.

Yeah, it would sell, but those sales would likely be measured in tens of thousands or maybe hundreds of thousands, rather than tens of millions, which is what Bethesda is after and where they are directing their energy.

This means absolutely nothing. Making money and turning a profit are not the same thing. A remaster could bring in one million dollars, but if it costs one million and one dollar to remaster the game then they have lost money.

It was one of the top requested games for XB1 BC. Yes it would sell a lot of console owners have been asking for it. The engine works they used it to test for Fallout 4. I would be happy if they just released it on backwards compatibility, even though I am currently playing a modded PC version (but that's just me). They would not need to do too much to re-release Skyrim for current consoles, increase texture resolution, upgrade lighting effects and have it running at 1080p. Perhaps throw in some more weapons and armour and people would definitely buy it again. From the interest I have seen from console gamers I see no reason at all that it would not sell well. Will it happen? I seriously doubt it.. which I think is a crying shame. Its also quite interesting that when they started making Skyrim it was originally being designed for next gen consoles, but it would be another 2 years before they would hit the shelves.

I think if ZeniMax Media Inc., Bethesda Softworks, and Bethesda Game Studios hired bEHAVIOUR INTERACTIVE or 4J Studios to do a HD remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim they can sell a total of 5 million copies combined for PC, PlayStation 4 (PS4), and Xbox One.

There are like 50+ million of the new generation of video games consoles sold so far plus PC.

So I'm really confident that HD remasters of all three of those video games can sell a total of 5 million copies.

Maybe. I tell you what, I'd pay full price for all three if they released 64 bit versions of the engines. That would be the only you would get me to buy any kind of remake, but I'd be all over a 64 bit engine for Oblivion or Skyrim at any price.

I'd buy it for PS4. Probably won't happen though so I'll just get the deluxe edition for PC when I get it built.

ZeniMax Media Inc., Bethesda Softworks, and Bethesda Game Studios selling HD remasters of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion at $35 dollars (USD) on Steam the PC version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (GOTY) is $24.99 dollars (USD), so increase the price by $10 dollars (USD) and so on, Fallout 3 at $30 dollars (USD), and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim at $50 dollars (USD) for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One will sell.

The PC versions of all three of these video games getting a 64-bit .exe would make me purchase all three of those video games again at FULL PRICE.

I would defiantly buy it, but I'm more excited for the new games and ideas Bethesda has in store for us.

That's about the file system and Windows7, and most people are still using Windows7, is running https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS (NTFS) which is 64-bit.

it wouldn't be an "HD" remaster, because Skyrim already runs at HD (pretty sure the console versions run at 720p)

True, but eh whatever.

They should name them Definitive Editions like almost every other video games that got ported from the PlayStation 3 (PS3) and Xbox 360 to the PC, PlayStation 4 (PS4), and Xbox One.

Or what should ZeniMax Media Inc., Bethesda Softworks, and Bethesda Game Studios name them?

A 32 bit program can only use a maximum of 4GB (as a practical matter it's less, closer to 3.5-3.7 GB). If the program's memory needs exceed that the game will crash. This limits your ability to mod the game because too much going on will crash the game when it runs out of memory. You could have 16 or even 32 GB of RAM installed in your PC but it won't matter because the game can't use more than 4GB because it's a 32 bit program.

A 64 bit program is not subject to this limitation. There is a theoretical limit to how much RAM a 64 bit app can use but it's so high that as a practical matter the only limit is the amount of RAM you have installed on your PC.

Also, I think most people who want a 64 bit exe are wanting the exe to be modernized/optimized to use multiple cores of the CPU. Games are notoriously bad at using more than one core, which is why i-5 chips often rank as high as i-7 chips when reviewed for gaming purposes. Those 4 additional cores in your fancy i-7 CPU are totally wasted on a game like Skyrim. If the Skyrim exe were upgraded to 64 bit and optimized to make better use of multiple cores, you would be able to do a lot more with mods without encountering as much lag and crashing.

Even if you are running Windows 8.1 or 10, Skyrim.exe is a 32 bit app, so you are subject to the same limits I mention above. Having a 64 bit engine would benefit users no matter what operating system they are using (as long as it isn't a 32 bit operating system).

Yeah I'm well aware of that. I'm not a child Pseron ;-)

We've been living in the age of re-releases for a good while now. They're very popular, with publishers and the buying public. If they didn't turn a nice profit they wouldn't keep happening.

Skyrim re-release is one of the chosen few the buying public actually ask for. They've been asking since the "next gen" consoles arrived. The question pops up on various gaming forums all over the net, again and again, and the response is positive every single time.

But like I said, doesn't mean it'll happen. And if it doesn't? Fair enough. They don't have to re-release their game just because it's the in thing. And like Turija said, maybe they're just not interested in a small profit.

With the fact that they already brought Skyrim up to the new consoles for the creation of Fallout 4 I doubt that much more dev work would be needed to finish a releasable product. As for an updated PC version I have no idea how much work that would take.

And I kind of figured that this question had been asked before but I did a quick search of the first few pages and then put this up.
