Would I still enjoy Daggerfall?

Hey, I know that Daggerfall was a great game back then. Many ''old skool'' gamers enjoy it these days too. But would I, mostly a current-gen gamer enjoy it? I've started gaming since the end of the PS1 era, then moved on to PS2 and PC and continued with the current gen, playing the newest games out there.

Well that depends on how well you can handle horrible graphics and how much your imagination spans. I would say you should. Its a free download and a must play for true TES fans.

Yep, it's completely free, so why not just give it a try and see for yourself?

If you can see past the ancient visuals and clunky mechanics there's a game hidden beneath that offers roleplaying opportunities well ahead of today's games - and the fact that you're forced to use some imaginiation to start with helps with the roleplaying - to a certain extent you'll get out of it what you put into it. The Elder Scrolls lore starts to develop with Daggerfall though, which also helps.

The difficulty level compared to modern games, particularly at the beginning of the game, can seem quite astronomical - but is well worth persevering with. Combat is basic (real-time but stats based) and expect to die many times before you make it out of the start area.

Once you're out into the main world, it does seem to lighten up though.

Don't expect any handholding either - get out there and find your own quests (major quests will appear after a time has passed) and be prepared to fail some of them - and also bear in mind that some quests are timed (so be prepared before you accept, and don't get too distracted).

Depends, do you think Skyrim is buggy and these bugs are really annoying?

If you say yes, then you won't like Daggerfall.

And I'm not sure about this "hardcoe no handholding part", the only really annoying thing is the intro dungeon and even there the bloody imp as it can one-hit kill you and you need higher tier material than you can find to kill it.
Other than that you are free to go wherever you wish, the map is easy to use, you just type in the place you want to go and it shows you where it is and even the missions are reasonable, only reason you would fail them is due to time limit, which is reasonably big most of the time or because the random dungeon generator decides to put the objective in the most impossible to reach room in the dungeon. So in other words, the main difficulty are the bugs...
Oh and Vampire ancients who appear on low levels due to a bug... so yeah, bugs...
