I've already gotten it for xbox, but if my computer can run it, I may get it... again.

I run my computer on low settings on fullscreen low without any lag or problems on an asus G50VT series. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220403
so yes its a potato but its 3 years old and not the best but should give you some perspective.

I think what is important here is the video card and the processor speed.

Another thing too about laptops, the turbo overclocking will cause risidual heat and to circumvent this the processor will throttle down after a period of time. Its not usually bad, but one of the downfalls of laptops.

also it recommends medium but i run it on low to give up a few graphics to have a smoother runtime.

I'm also looking at buying a gaming desktop, but have no idea what is good and what isn't.

I found this but how good is it, if at all?

what I'm looking at is processor and video card. it says 1GB but under the specification it lists for that card 512-1GB which is the same as mine basically, it is a next generation and runs on directx 11. The processor sounds great but you can buy that for 149.99 online. I'm sure it would run medium to low graphics. I heard some things about AMD cards and I'm wondering if Nvidia would be better for this game. I'm not sure just remember hearing some compatibility things in the past.

I'm actually considering buying a new laptop, but will probably play this one out, I prefer the gaming laptops because I move around so much. That one I would really consider. The asus I was considering is an asus G73sw for around 1,400 dollars. http://usa.asus.com/Notebooks/Gaming_Powerhouse/G73SW/

If I were to buy a new computer today it would most likely need to be alot better than the one I currently have, or it isn't worth the investment. So I may play this one out and see if new games require the more power and wait for the prices on the ones I'll consider go down. With the machine I have its been great through the years. If your going for a laptop I would recommend one designed specifically for games. I thought wth I'll buy the game and see if it runs since my brother had it on the 360 and I wanted to try it and see if it would work. The fact that it even runs is great for me since I'm going to get morrowind and oblivion and experience those for the first time. Skyrim is a fun game I have really enjoyed it. Other than that I play chess, and all you need for that is an internet connection lol.

There already has been a Master thread for your question, here:

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1286423-unofficial-will-my-pc-run-skyrim-thread-55-w-hardware-guide/page__st__40__gopid__19465915#entry19465915

It was unnecessary to create still another duplicate of the same thing.
