Would Trophies/Achievements Interfere With Personal Gaming E

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:33 pm

Like many gamers, I like to achieve trophies in games I like most. Since Skyrim is the next in the TES series, I would love to achieve all of the trophies.
In the GI, it talks about how there is radiant storytelling to where the game suits however you personally decide to play it. But on the other hand, trophies and achievements require the player to perform specific tasks to achieve them. This worries me that if I want to achieve certain trophies will I have to make choices that effect my character's story that I do not wish to do?

That isn't interference, that is a personal choice. You chose to have that gaming experience.

Most trophies will probably just be reaching different stages in the Main Quest, different ranks in each of the factions/guilds you can join and reaching certain levels. Exploring everywhere, killing X amount of dragons and so on. I doubt there will be many "kill x amount in this particular way ONLY". So I wouldn't worry to much. :)

I will just voice my personal opinion but I am against trophies in the way that the Microsoft Xbox system gives them out. They are meta-trophies and have more to do with your overall "gamer score" than the game you're playing. I would like to see trophies in an immersive sense, where you behead the giant troll, or you skin the beast of the south and put it in your house or make some armor out of it. More like that.

You are thinking about it wrong. Achievements and Trophies are mete-game. As in, they give you a out of game reward for completing certain tasks. They are meant to reward you for how you play, and for completing the game story. Only people who care about their gamerscore, like me, are going to try and get all of the achievements. Which mostly span across all the different play styles and choices.

Basically if you don't care about a silly number ( like I do :P ) then you have nothing to worry about. And if you do care about it then you shouldn't have a problem anyway because you probably played the Mass Effect 10 times to get all the squad achievements.

That would be fun if they put in a TROPHY ROOM, where you can show off any achievements you get.

I think the Ps3 has this in HOME... For 360 avatar awards are kind of that for me.

Edit* just realized you might have meant in-game. If so I'm completely against that idea. Like I said in my previous post. Achievements are complete meta to me and have no real bearing on things inside the game.

Never did get the FO3 achievements for being evil or neutral, it's not how I play, won't change that just to get gamerscore.

See? Here is a prime example. If you don't care about gamerscore that much it doesn't matter. All the reward you get is a silly number anyway.

As for myself, I did get every achievement in Fo3 (except for Alien Archivist. I hated mothership zeta and just wanted to be done.) because I really love achievements and that old "highscore" feeling gamerscore gives you. That being said, I would never play a game I just don't enjoy for achievements.

I never bother with achievements and gamer score and the like. I just play the games, and "achievement unlocked" messages occasionally appear on the screen, and I just think "Meh".

Like I have said in other threads achievements I'm indifferent about. The only thing I really want is that getting an achievement has no effect in game, ie stat boost such as Mass Effect - just spoils replays and future characters.

Achievements and trophies can add replayability for me once everything else is done. I just hope they have some good challenging ones, not just for beating quest lines. My fav example was the "little rocket man" one from the orange box/half life set. You had to take a small gnome statue through the ENTIRE game and put him into a rocket at the end of the story. It was tough and very rewarding to see the notification pop up that I did it.

I vote that there should be one for fighting a super high level beasty with bare hands and no armour for example. Hahaha Give me a reward for punching a dragon in the face and living to tell the tale :)

If you remember in Oblivion, there were no specific achievements for the 360. Just getting ranks in factions, completing the MQ, and leaving the sewers. That's it I think.
I don't see how that could possibly hinder your gaming experience.
