Would you approve of some form of homing missles for mages a

Post » Mon Jun 20, 2011 1:07 pm

I believe that one of the reasons that there arent more pure archers or destruction mages is because sometimes it can be impossible to hit long distance shots with the aiming system given to us in previous games

One elevation change can ruin a shot
One fast moving creature can ruin a shot
One twitch can ruin a shot

They already have multiple ways to use magic (short ranged, trap runes and standard)

But maybe a fireball that sought out its target would be a welcome addition

Homing projectiles would be cool as a high level perk or spell. It seems a bit overpowered though.

If you want to be an effective mage or archer learning how to aim is part of the job.

Heat-seeking fireballs? Sure thing. Arrows? Big eh from me. The challenge of being a marksman is compensating your shot and timing it properly, estimating and using probability to determine your opponents next move.

i'm pretty sure chain lightning has been confirmed, so it's seems likely that homing missiles for mages is in, as for archers, maybe a type of enchanted arrows?

Well one thing i think they should do is increase the gravity of the world so characters don't fly around like witches when running around or down hills. This could help with accuracy alot, imo.

I think as a rare type of magical arrow it would be quite a good idea (or an expensive, high level spell). Also, just because it is a homing weapon doesn't mean it has to automatically do heaps of damage.

As a skill perk yes I agree to that. A little shift of the direction of the arrow/spell towards the target wouldn't be overpowered as long as it's not too much that it rarely misses.

At least, the flight speed of arrows should be increased.

Archers get the zoom in feature to help accuracy, they don't really need more than that. Mages would have to use extra magic to increase accuracy in such a way that fits with the style like how archery has the ability to give yourself eagle eyes to see farther away. I say combining clairvoyance and a spell would allow it to track a target. The comination would make sense in my head at least.

I suspect the "Magnetism" that draws you closer to enemies instead of friends will have a minor role in this. Hopefully not as much as on Halo or Call of duty though :shakehead:

Just no. Part of being able to shoot something from a distance and thus being able to avoid damage is that your target can do the same.

@Oblivifaller: Chain lighting requires the target to be hit before it can ricochet :)

I'd approve, but it would have to be implemented incredibly well

Yeah actually I'd like an aim assist - a spell/perk that shows you the path your arrow will take through the world. Would be perfect for those long shots (you know, the ones when you are 50 feet away and the enemy is charging towards you, and the arrow appears to land between their feet)

I think that "homing" arrows would be OP and not make sense. It's possible to hit a target by leading and all that. I appreciate your issue though - in the beginning days of Oblivion I used to waste hundreds of arrows/magicka training my marksman or destruction by attempting to hit dear.

Homing spells would be ok, but only if there was some kind of target lock option, and that might be a little odd in the TES setting (otherwise you'd cast a fireball across town at a saber toothed tiger that followed you home, and before you knew it you'd be suffering from an assault charge because it veered off and hit some innocent bystander)

They would also have to have an incredibly slow turning speed, following a circular path with a maximum direction change of 30 degrees to their original motion.

Chain lightning seems to arc to hit a target so mages have limited homing for some spells. As for arrows: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, learn to lead your target.

Definitely not for archers, I think it's better that you have to practice and try and improve your aiming skills. Plus I've been hearing how they've fix up archery, making it more deadlier than the previous TES, but haven't seen much to confirm that.

Maybe there could be an "Homing Missile" version of spells (like flamethrower or rune trap) that requires you to hold down the cast button and keep it on a target till it locks on.

If your arrows are enchanted with Homing Missile it means it's not enchanted with fire, so it balances itself out.
