Would you buy DLC if you had upcoming patch information?

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 8:23 am

Hey,

Recently Cry-Adam posted that upcoming patches for all platforms are currently in the works but they will not be ready by the 17th.

Obviously, there is a separation in the community between those that will buy the DLC on the 17th (regardless of a patch) and those that will not buy it until a patch is released.

So, what are you going to do? Are you going to;

a) Take a chance, buy the DLC in the hopes that the next patch resolves major issues (MATCHMAKING!, grain glitch and lag and others) - VERY RISKY! Perhaps stupid?
b) Not buy it until the patch is released and then make an assessment - Safest option
c) Buy the DLC on the provision that they forward upcoming patch notes before the patch actually is released. - Safe but not set in stone

My personal opinion is C.

If they post a list of what's going to be fixed in the next patch and a rough ETA then I will be more than happy to buy the DLC on Day 1. I don't think they would lie to us and give us falsified patch information so I would be fine with this.

What's your thoughts?

Not until the patch.

Personally, DLC at this point with new maps would just make the community smaller. Most of the people I find in my games usually aren't above level 15, and I don't know why they'd buy DLC for a game they've barely begun. Unless the map pack made the map rotation actually random, I see no point in getting in maps maybe 5 others can load into.

So option C would not be fine with you? Why?

Unless they had a time estimate included, I'm not sure another month waiting on vague promises would be worth it. As I said, if I had the map pack, and a very small portion of the community also had it, I'd be able to stay in games until one of those maps popped up. Then everyone else would get booted and I'd be able to parkour over a map in an empty game.

800 is a reasonable price, don't get me wrong. I just don't know how well it will work with their current matchmaking system.

EDIT: Fixed grammar due to posting 10 minutes after waking up. (See how hard that was Crytek?)

I Won't buy DLC until the game is working properly.

The DLC will still be available in a month. Why would I buy a non refundable item now in the hopes of the game getting fixed when I can hold off until I know the game is fixed?

Patch information would be nice but I would still hold off until the patch has been released and tested for myself. I've been burned by crytek before, shame on them, but if I let them burn me again then shame on me.

I agree.

The thought of having to wait another month until this is fixed isn't on and like you said it's it would divide the players more. At the moment I can sometimes find it hard to find a full game, it is very common for me and my friends to sit in the lobby for several minutes before another 2 players join. I find it difficult to believe that there wasn't another 2 people IN THE ENTIRE WORLD that didnt want to play Crysis 2 when we did.

Also we will also tend to play the same people for 6+ games before everyone gets booted out the lobby for no apparent reason and the process starts again and the map rotation lol

@DeathPig

Well if they released a patch that fixed everything then why would you refuse to buy DLC? There would be no problem then.

Also I think you have a rare issue with C2 to be honest, not calling you a liar or anything. Most people usually cannot play the MP because of the grain glitch but for those without it we can still play the game reasonably with just keep coming across annoying instances which are aggravating but in no terms ruin the game. However, in your case it seems that your unable to play the MP at all. I would advise that you obtain a different copy, it may be something with your disc.

Most people would agree that the MP can act up for time to time, but it is no means, shape or form unplayable. Being 4th prestige and my friends being 2+ prestige demonstrates that.

Yeah I agree as well, you have good points.

I think people don't want to hold of because WE WANT THE DLC NOW!!! :D, and I don't want to wait.

But listening to you and others on the thread then I think I will now hold off and go for option A. No harm waiting and can play the normal MP or other games in the meantime.

No specifics in regards to a title update addressing lag and MM then no buy.
If Crytek can't give me something more substantial before LA Noire's releases I'm done.

I'm tired of their vagueness. They've only proven to me that they are incompetent and don't give two fμcks about the community.

There stance of "if we don't give them specifics about an update then were not accountable" is bμllsh1t.

No wonder the PC community pirates their sh1t. This game is worth $20 at best and the experience has been a nightmare.

I'll never buy a Crytek game Day 1...ever.

Ya, not super excited for another "patch", since the first few have done squat. The weapon/module hot fix seems to be back for the most part, which is the only change in my MP games. The Lag/in game stuff would be more tolerable (P2P can't help this) to me if they fixed the menu music, map rotation/pairing and the lobby/squad break ups.

Oh ya, starting a game with 3vs3 or joining a game in progress is a no-no. Dashboarding and host migration seems unstoppable along with a host downloading stuff to lag everyone else and win easily. All in all, maps sound good, but not if there only a few people playing them as even now some games do not fill up.

"A" for me and i guess i′am not stupid at all, ha. Only 800 MS Points for it, it′s not a big deal for me. I like the game, so why not buy it before a new patch comes out! BTW. the issue with the incredible loud sound between MP matches is not fixed after 3 patches, also the host/connection problem! So who tells me they fix the grain and all the other stuff with a new patch?

i might buy it, if only we could get a written promise that this patch will fix hit detection, netcode, lag issues that other p2p games don't have (gears of war 3 sometimes doesn't have dedicated servers but the gameplay is nearly as good by which i mean nearly flawless and gow3 is in beta and 4 months away from release!)
i hope they add more challenges and modules or some thing and maybe a game mode?
I just wanna be able to play the game like in the Retaliation Video... ALSO REMOVE AIM ASSIST AND YOU GET RID OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT ARMOR MODE! 2 BIRDS WITH ONE STONE!

You guys are masochists.

This will only be a map pack. Just 4 maps you will maybe play sometimes as it is random.

And then, crytek will disappear with this last attempt and focus on "kingdoms".

Why don't you wait and buy it later? People only comfort developpers in thinking players are just dumb cashmachines, who can handle being slapped again and asking for more.

Grow up people, money doesn't fall from the sky, but crytek tend to think it.

Maybe if you cross the highway blinded, you won't be hurt.

Game is still in beta shape after 2 months. Map pack will surely fix it.

You've hit the nail on the head there dirk. They haven't even advertised the DLC or confirmed whether the sh1te Network Coding (Lag) + Grain glitch etc etc will EVER be addressed. I firmly believe they will release DLC and then 'silence' just as we've had for 7 weeks. A few farts off them only coincides with the cash cow they are now prepping.

If anyone is stupid enough to give these grabbers more cash BEFORE we have a Patch then you are simply beyond any sense or reason

I would buy the DLC IF and I mean IF I knew that I could play the maps regularly....

All I ever play is Skyline, Terminal, Evac Zone, etc. I want to make sure that when I pay 10$, that I'm actually playing those maps.

True, that concerns me the most. Even IF I bought the maps without waiting for another patch then there is no guarantee that I can play them.

I am not exaggerating here when I say that coming across some maps to play is very rare. I hardly ever some maps because of the fixed map rotations and the random booting out of lobbies which resets the map rotation.

No point in having the new maps if can only play them 1/10 games :(

Too true. Same thing happened with AvP. :/

They should add an option similar to BFBC2 where you are able to choose which map you want the game to try and find a game for.

Yeah for me BC2 online set such a high bar for online PC FPS (quality wise. There is some gameplay that was not balanced till mid fall last year.) That coming from that to this just makes me RAGE hardcoe. I LOVE CRYSIS 2's gameplay but the quality of the online world is even out done by Bolps(which I hate gameplay wise). They failed hard. The only reason I play Crysis 2 online is the gameplay. But with Brink incoming, Homefront still looking solid online(for what its worth they got it right) and good old BC2...really I do not have a reason to stay around for long. I came, I saw and fun but I am leaving if things do not improve. I have plenty of good games to play and Crysis 2 is losing fast to them.

I'm buying this Pack maybe after E3 2011...
But not this month... Its not right to release a MapPack and nothing got fixed :/
Crytek needs help from some serious experienced Console developers.
Ask Bungie or some Microsoft devs about p2p network and solutions for CE3. Or get some Dedicated servers on for the Consoles.
Crytek? Change something!

I wont buy the game until the Patch notes are released and I see some true fixes happening in game...As far as me and my friends are concerned Crytek is a joke releasing a new Map pack when the game is still unstable..Crytek you deserve to be put in a room surrounded by the gaming community and have everyone point at you and laugh your sheer stupidity...I hope your company suffers huge profit losses and collapses...It probably will

This or just randomize the map rotation, it can't be THAT hard to do, can it? If you can hot fix weapon tweaks, shouldn't you be able to hot fix this? *Sigh*
