Would you buy an HD texture DLC?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 12:52 pm

No, I'd be quite a bit insulted if they offered a hight texture dlc for money.

Yeah. They start with textures, then patches, then optimizations to the engine, then DirectX 11.1 thingies, then guilds quests expansions, then better User Interface, then... Ouch.

I hope it won't be real.

The day companies charge customers for 3rd party user made addons/mods/patches is the day I will stop to sail under the white corp flag and instead hoist up the jolly roger!

If they rolled out a big paid-content DLC and at the same time rolled out a texture DLC (that made the game 64-bit capable) probably yes. That's assuming that the texture DLC costs $5 or less.

I wouldn't buy a a texture DLC by itself because by the time it came out I would probably be long-finished with Skyrim. I've never been able to get very far in a second playthrough of Oblivion, Fallout 3, or Fallout NV, despite playing completely different styles/classes/moralities, and I imagine Skyrim will be the same.

If it was seamless and official, I would pay for it, $5-$10.

Hey everyone, just wanted to point out that Bethesda may be using the steam workshop to sell user mods and give content creators a kickback depending on downloads. Maybe it'll be free and AD based like YouTube, but if they charge $, can you really see free content like Nexus surviving? Free HD textures may not be an option. At least not for the best ones out there.

I highly doubt that, where there is a will there is a way.

Only if it comes with 64 bit binaries. This game crashes hard without 64 bit as it stands today, I'd hate to see what a huge texture space would do to this poor engine!

Eh, at this rate, I have my doubts this gamebyro modified engine couldn't handle the higher res textures.. at least not without the game looking like a slideshow.

Its good to think that modders can finally make some money for their hard work, but unfortunately it is not content I'd ever pay for, thankfully I am enjoying the game fine barring tech issues without any mods.

They can take the DLC idea and drag it into the recycling bin. DLC will eventually lose it's welcome in the market as consumers start to shift to becoming customers again.

I would purchase a HD texture pack if it had 4GB of RAM support and vastly improved & uncompressed textures for the ENTIRE game. Not just equipment, NPC's, or environment.

No. I will not pay for a hi-res texture DLC.

This game is for the PC. Current generation PCs are capable of way better graphics than those the game shipped with. I have very little doubt that the master graphics in the art archive at Bethesda are in extreme hi-def resolution. So let them push a free download through Steam the same way they will be pushing the free download of the Creation Kit. Those who want it can have it. Those who don't won't have to get it.

Again, I will not pay a dime for something that should have been present for the PC release.

I would. Bring down the HD pack already, bethesda. And do some optimization for Ugrids above default values. You'll be praised for ever and ever if you do that.
It is unlikely going to happend, though.

As my line of thinking goes, I payed 60 bucks for THE Game, I should be entitled to the whole game, not a fraction of it, so no, I would use some illegitimate means to get the dlc that should have been in the game by default.

I would absolutely not buy it, nor should anyone have to. That's something that should have been included already, not something to force more money from

I really wont pay for a "HD" texture pack by Bethesda themself because

a) They made the game on computer, made grafics with computer and then simply cross compiled. So I'm sure they had the high resolution images/textures aside and just didn't use the for the PC for several reasons (that I wont accept).
B) The joke is, in the current situation the game is, they wont release such a DLC because it would be 100% gamebreacking because of the "NOT"-Use of a LAA-Flag. Not everyone reads the forums and is able to search/find for possible solutions like the avaible 4GB launchers. Also it is a shame people have to use their free time to use workarrounds for such essential things.

In comparison to earlier Bethesda / TES Games for me it is a shame how they worked here so they have to fix things first because I buy any DLC/Addon for it ;)

There is an assumptious tone to this thread, that shows just how cynical we have all become about the marketing of big releases, and quite rightly so

Why buy it when someone on the Nexus will offer a superior texure redo for free? May have to wait a few months, but there will be a free one...no doubt.

Though, I won't mind if Bethesda will include their own made (not fan-made) Hi-Res textures on Skyrim GOTY disk or included bonus disk (if any).

For example, on TES IV Oblivion 5th Anniversary edition there were only 2 gigs occupied on bonus disk. Why not include something useful from developers on left disk space?
