Would you buy an HD texture DLC?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 12:42 pm

Ever since the announcement of the Steam Workshop marketplace, I'm starting to think that Bethesda may have shipped with crappy textures for PC in part because Xbox non-competition agreements, but also so they could charge us extra money for use created content that we currently get for free on Nexus. It doesn't really piss me off a much a it should, since I think this will encourage people to make even more spectacular mods through competition and the profit motive. It's kind of funny, because I don't really consider myself to be a capitalist pig.

It depends. If they were released in a week and they looked really good, then yes. If they were released in 6 months after Skyrim HD was finished, then no.

The bottom line is that mods will always make one aspect of a game better. As good as an HD DLC from Bethesda might be, the Skyrim HD mod will undoubtedly make it look better.

Nah, community does it better.

Continued story DLC would be nice though.

No but I would install it in a hot second if they gave it to me for free (I did pay full retail for the game after all).

Um... I think the reson is pritty simple. 32bit exe can't handle it. Its that simple.

Considering many of the textures look worse than Oblivion (which also used a 32-bit executable), I doubt that's the issue.

Depends on the cost.
I can see myself paying $5 for it, even though the idea itself is stupid, but no more than that.
Plus they better be 4K resolution, otherwise I'll just stick with the 2K resolution packs modders are doing for us. (Not to say there won't be 4k packs from modders, but 4k ORIGINAL TEXTURES would win for me)

I would not, firstly I already paid for the game and I can't see how fixing a mess is a DLC , and secondly because fans already started to fix it (yes, fix, becase very low ress textures for PC have to be a bug, otherwise it would be offensive) and before too long, most of, or all of Skyrim will be HD.

Bethesda purposefully holding back HD textures so they can later sell it as a DLC? This would be even more ludicrous than horse armor. What a silly thread.

No. I used QTP3 in Oblivion (and loved it), but Skyrim is just fine as is. I wouldn't want anymore FPS svcked out of my game.

no. I would not pay any money for DLC that Modders can do very easily. I will pay money for campaigns, quests, ect, real content. I will not pay for item packs or texture packs.

Why to buy "HD" textures (i hate this specification, is' stupid) if game engine can't handle them? Install each texture separately, perhaps.

No.
Leave hd improvements to mod community if not included vanilla. EA/Crytek released dx11 & HD pack dlcs for Crysis 2 without charge. Which ultimately, as with TESV, would only apply to those of us with the hardware to benefit from.
There are countless DLC possibilities for Skyrim that I'd prefer Beth to focus efforts on, in addition to addressing the unending list of bugs plaguing so many users.
With that said, prompt patches and perhaps even Complimentary DLC(s) offered to compensate the users that have barely begun to enjoy their $59.99 investment. -not that I believe a complimentary DLC would ever happen, but BOY! Wouldn't that be a nice gesture?!

That is like asking if I would like to breathe cleaner air. But I would have to see cost. I know what yer thinking...what a fool. Well...lets face it..if they sold it...you would buy it. Not all...but those who really wanted it...would buy it. It's an unfortunate cycle...but true. In all reality...and many of you know it...the figure would have to be pretty friggin high to make a game like this not worth it...but...it would have to guranatee....WORK and there would ahve to be more protection for the consumer..but really...an experience like this when seamless...is really...REALLY...fuggin cool! No?

High-res textures should be part of the base game, a bonus for those who can make use of them. Paying for the pleasure is about as stupid as horse armor.

I'd not pay for HQ textures. If they gave them free I'd take them, but I personally feel like the modders will handle it better anyway. Not to mention that I think the HQ textures were kind of expected to come with the PC version in the first place.

This. I paid retail for this game. I'll not pay more than that for something that essentially fixes the base game. That, and Bethesda has always had a great modding community. They'll give us these things for free, so trying to get people to pay for it would not be a business-savvy move.

As with most people.

Pay? - Not a chance I paid full retail price and I deserve it as it is suppose to come with the game.

If it was free I would download and install it immediately.

It's already been stated that the workshop is simply for people too lazy to look on nexus, or are too leary of the internet to find it. It provides an easy access to mods developed by the community in a known 'safe' environment (since I assume it would have to be approved by steam first to make sure its not a virus). The workshop _should_ also provide ease of enabling/disabling downloaded mods, and it automatically puts them in the right place. NMM does the same thing, but it's buggier than a Mississippi Summer.

All mods available on the workshop will be on nexus, I guarantee it.
