Would You Buy The Next TES If It Was A Hack & Slash Game?

For a spin-off, sure.

As a main chapter, though, it would only have half the appeal. It would still have the rich history and lore and stuff, but it would lose the TES feel. I likely would rent it, maybe play it if a friend bought it, but not actually buy it myself.

I agree. I'm still waiting on Bethesda to realize how much dinero they would make by making a TESA: Eye of Argonia about Cyrus's exploits in Blackmarsh and his eventual death to a Hist Tree (according to Vehk)

Pretty close to one, and I wouldn't buy it again if I knew what it was like before I shelled out the cash. My purchasing decision for OB was based on my experiences with MW. My decision on whether to purchase the next game will be based on BOTH MW and OB, with a full measure of both hope and caution as a result. If it were based purely on OB, I'd never give it more than a passing glance on the store shelf.

i wouldn't mind an elder scrolls RTS. i dunno about a diablo clone, they're rarely handled well.

TES only has "hack-n-slash traits" because it's never had a good combat system. they really need to work on that.

An RTS for Elderscrolls would be pretty cool. Each race with different buildings...Imperial forts, half timber houses, camp tents, Dunmer strongholds, Mushroom towers, ald-skar or w/e, Argonian Hist...different units like Telvanni mages, Bosmer scouts, Ashlander skirmishers, Imperial legionnares. The gameplay would be different enough to warrant a separate style of game.

But yea...third person hack and slash, with mobs of enemies? No. Dungeon crawling, fast paced twitch combat? Sure. A narrative story line isn't so important as simply a narrative world, like Morrowind was, with conflicting politics, racism, economics (fights over mining rights and smugglers of all types) I feel like that (aside from the perspective) is what makes a hack and slash different, and inferior to Elderscrolls.

When it comes to Oblivion, I'm just as critical as anyone else who felt disappointed with it. But to be fair, I think it is a great game if you don't compare it to its predecessors. I think that those of us who played Morrowind or Daggerfall first felt both cheated and insulted after the 'new and shiny' wore off. I think many of us felt cheated because Oblivion ruthlessly stripped away and/or consolidated many of the things that made Morrowind and Daggerfall worthy of their Elder Scrolls title. And, I think we felt insulted because Oblivion explained everything for us as though we were six years old. There are Daggerfall fans that feel similarly towards Morrowind. The point that I am awkwardly coming to is that I think most of us would buy another ES game if we only had Oblivion to base our opinions from. I think it is because so many of us want and expect the next game in the ES series to be as good, if not better, than its predecessors that we feel so let down when it falls short of our expectations. And let's be honest, our expectations are sky-high after the likes of Daggerfall and Morrowind. Having said that, I am both optimistic and skeptical about what to expect from the next game. I am optimistic that it will be better than Oblivion, but skeptical that it will be as rich and in-depth as Morrowind and, especially, Daggerfall.

No. I would not buy it if it was hack and slash, and I would write some of the angriest hate mail ever to Todd Howard. :P

Put simply, yes.
But I would prefer the Morrowind/Oblivion style RPG.

Short Answer: No
Longer Answer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWaLxFIVX1s
Serious Answer: I might try it once the price was low, or if it gets good reviews, or if the people on these forums like it.

It depends... would it still be sandbox? and how much hack n slash are we talking about? i voted yes but would have voted maybe if it had been a option.

It dosn't really matter if its modable since i am a console gamer.

I just brought a Birdseye hack and slash game it's called 'Champions of norrath' for the ps2, i hate it, i dunno it's ok, but i would rather Beth keep it a first person/3rd person rpg, i don't feel many people will buy it if it's Birdseye view, i wouldn't.

Hack n' slash ? la Diablo? No thanks. :)
I love Diablo 1 (Not the others), but I would never play an Elder Scrolls "beat 'em up" game with barely any story and very small RPG elements in the background.

Actually, it would be like any Elder Scrolls game, with much less RPG elements, more baddies and items, even less dialogue and quests that are only about killing people. So, no.
Even if it is moddable, mods would not change the way to play a hack n' slash game. :P

But I would never, ever mind a Total War-like game in Tamriel. As long as it uses the same mechanics as Total War games. :D
