Would You Buy The Next TES If It Was A Hack & Slash Game?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:22 am

Similar to Diablo and Titan Quest.

I would buy it, just because its TES, but what about you?

The last vote is kinda fail, "Not If Its Unmodable", is kinda the same as "Only If Its Modable", so just ignore the last option.

Oblivion already was H'n'S. Stats and quest do not magically make a game an RPG.

NOOOOO! DON'T RUIN IT ON US! YOU'LL WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! NUUUHHHHH! Unless there were some things to it other than killing, nuh uh! I still wouldn't buy it if there were some things to it. It'd need a [censored]load of shtuff for me to get it! At least as much stuff as the past games!

I think the point of these games is to have them play depending on what you like to play as.If youplay as a warrior it should be HnS but if you like playing as a mage or a thief it should be alot more tactical. The same goes with the view,if you want to play third person you just toggle it.I honestly thought after playing oblivion the first time and being able to switch views that there would be no such thing as first person shooters or third person action games anymore, that they would just be shooters or action games and give you the option.I also thought people besides bethesda would start making games that take longer than 12 hours to beat. Some of these other companys should really start taking aque from bethesda, everything else i play is garbage by comparison.

Probably not, I'm not into those kinds of games. I like the freedom that most ES games give you; take it away and I don't feel like I'm playing an ES game.

If the game was like Diablo or any game of the sort I would not but it.I like the freedom the world offers you.So a hack n slash would not work for me at all.I agree with the post above Elder Scrolls does have hack n slash traits but it is more of a rpg.

Yeah, probably. It's not exactly the direction I'd like the series to go in, but it'd still likely be a fun game.

For that matter, Morrowind was too. Seeing as how much hacking one would inevitably do against cliff racers :P

If I did it would probably be the last TES game I bought
For all its weaknesses there was plenty to do in Oblivion besides H&S and with mods it was greatly improved but IMO the series has gone too far in that direction already

If it was small in scope and had a decent dose of story which fit the gameplay then yes. See Redguard as an example of what I would accept, a sort of TES mini game.

i wouldn't mind an elder scrolls RTS. i dunno about a diablo clone, they're rarely handled well.

TES only has "hack-n-slash traits" because it's never had a good combat system. they really need to work on that.

I wouldn't be happy if the next game was a "Hack & Slash" game, but I would consider buying it if it were modable.

Why would there be any reason for them to dramatically alter the structure of their game? All four have been on the same idea of 1st person, with 3rd person coming into play in Morrowind. This kind of speculation is way out in left field.

After the "simplifications" that OB made to the series, and the so-so "improvements" between that and the indirectly related FO3 (same engine, similar game mechanics), I'm going to hold off on purchasing the next installment in the series until I'm reasonably certain that the game isn't just a mindless "hack and slash" title.

There are a number of regular posters here whose opinions would heavily influence my decision, and if they like it, I'll "bite" and shell out for it; if not, then I'll just have to continue to play MW until some other company releases a better game (and I'm really getting kind of tired of it after all these years).

When FO3 was released, I posted that I wouldn't buy it unless a CS was released for it. After that was released, I bought the game with the hopes that mods would be able to fix any serious flaws. Sadly, the fundamental game isn't quite to my liking: most of the character's attributes (abreviated as "SPECIAL" in the FO series) were almost irrelevant to gameplay compared to the "twitch" skills of the player. Another related and underlying problem appears to be that Bethesda wants to make every encounter an "epic struggle", even against basic wildlife. In Morrowind, most of the starting creatures were relatively easy to deal with, once you figured out the basic game mechanics, and 2-3 successful hits would kill a Rat or Mudcrab. In FO3, it took 5-10 bullets to kill a basic Molerat; a pipe or baseball bat was much more effective than a gun at the start. The fearsome Supermutants of the earlier FO games became just more of the same "generic" baddies like the Molerats, and no harder to kill, since the level of difficulty in FO3 was relatively "flat" throughout most of the game. Without MEANINGFUL use of character skills and attributes that have an effect on the completion of actions (and not just nerfing damage), it wasn't all that much more than a basic "shooter" game. After roughly a month to month-and-a-half, it got shuffled to a bottom drawer where it sits. Meanwhile, the old MW disc is still getting used on at least a weekly basis. I have no reason to buy another game to join the FO3 and OB discs in that drawer.

Yes- If it's TES related, I will buy it. I don't care. I know they will satisfy me gaming requirements.

I'd play any TES game. Wouldn't love to see a HnS game, but I'm not expecting to see either.
With so many good RPGs out after TES4 (Witcher, Mass Effects, Dragon Age and new M&B versions) they ought to aim for some drastic improvement in the series.

I enjoyed Oblivion when i was just a casual gamer, playing a bit of evrything. But after loving Morrowind, and getting into RPG, i would prefer TESV to be more RPG focused, than have the mixed approach OB had. So i would say 50/50 leaning towards, no.

I think a combat system like Demons Souls would work really well with TES.Demons souls is called an RPG but its pretty hacknslash to me, I thought the concept of an RPG where all you do is run down the same hallways, killing the same things over and over again was retarded but the whole time i was playing it i thought i'd love to take this combat system to TES.

I would not mind a hack and slash game in the TES environment, under the condition that it is NOT a numbered title and that it does not cause any further delay in making one. If TES V turns out to be a hack and slash game, I fear I'm done with TES franchise. I loved Morrowind for the good RPG it was, I could live with Oblivion even though they did remove most of the RPG feel from it, but I guess I would not cope with further hack and slashing of the series. I'd say that we are overdue for a good RPG form Beth after Oblivion and Fallout 3.

My thinking is in line with this.

I would be curious enough about it to check it out, but I would be extremely disappointed if it were a part of the main series. I'd want it to be a branch-off like Redguard. If it were a part of the main series, then I would be done with purchasing any more TES titles.

I guess I'd buy it. I've bought Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, Redguard, Battlespire, and most of the expansions. Why stop now?!?!?

For a spin-off, sure.

As a main chapter, though, it would only have half the appeal. It would still have the rich history and lore and stuff, but it would lose the TES feel. I likely would rent it, maybe play it if a friend bought it, but not actually buy it myself.
