Would you ever want to live in Skyrim?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 12:35 pm

It seems all gaming worlds are incredibly dark and depressing. Not wanting to assign that attribute to an entire generation I have come to accept that all game developers must suffer from a severe depressive mental disorder. Must be part of what makes them game developers. Cannot remember a game where there was an outcome that was satisfying.

Bright cheerful worlds where all is well and not much happens tend to be more boring then the whole "the End is nigh! We need a hero!" thing ;)

The weather isn't a problem, but the lack of a computer is. ^_^
All in all it would just be like living at my family's summercottage all year-round. When I think about it all four seasons is something Skyrim is lacking, and therefore I'd think twice before deciding to live there.

Live in a world where death is literally right outside the door. No.

I wouldn't mind opening up a little Imperial bookshop in Solitude :read: I could easily travel by ship back to Cyrodiil, and also make frequent trips to the more civilized lands of nearby High Rock.

Within Skyrim though... I wouldn't venture past Dragonbridge :spotted owl:

No freaking way. In fact I wouldn't want to live in just about any fantasy world I've encountered in any game. (wouldn't mind living in the Star Trek universe though -- that looked pretty nice for the most part.).

About Skyrim:

1. It's incredibly dangerous. I've died many times in that game. Real life is permadeath. Die once and you're done.

2. Did you notice how everyone lives? Good luck even finding a flush toilet in Skyrim. I'm sorry but I'm used to having a nice comfortable home with two baths, three bedrooms, Internet connection, electricity, running water, and CENTRAL HEAT. Besides that I like regular medical and dental care, teflon, cars, computer games and a balanced diet.

3. In real life I NEVER have to worry about some dragon swooping down and trying to roast me before breakfast.

4. Even though I live in Chicago which is known (rightly) for it's corruption. It's nothing like what I saw in Skyrim.

Come to think of it, I haven't even seen toilet paper (I don't know what they use but maybe that explains why they're always looking for a fight). I'm sorry but I'm used to having a nice comfortable home with two baths, three bedrooms, Internet connection, electricity, running water, and CENTRAL HEAT. No night clubs, tv or internet. The food svcks, the people are ugly inside and out, it's freezing cold and there's a 90% chance of being stabbed, sacrificed or eaten in the first week alone.

I'm sorry - I seem to have mislayed my train ticket...

Absolutely, it's stunning and interesting. A small hunters cabin somewhere between Whiterun and Riften for me please!

Even without the fantasy aspect (I.e. no magic, no dragons, etc.) I would still love to live at a time like this. You would know all your neighbors and be on mostly friendly terms. If anything bad happened the whole town would pitch in to help. None of this junk now like being stuck in a house and unable to move. Everything could be either grown, hunted for or bartered. Sure I could get robbed, beaten or killed but that's just as much of a chance to happen now in the real world as back then.

No, I'd rather live in the warmer southern climate of Cyrodiil, probably Cheydinhal.

As much as I love the game, I started to really think about it the other day and I'd never in a million years want to live there. Such a gloomy life, I'd end up hanging myself within 10 days.

***looks around at the Minnesota terrain***

I could deal as long as the Skyrim football team was competent. :D

I would gladly live in The Rift. The Birch trees and autumnal colors are beautiful.

Probably not. I'm thinking I might end up like one of people in a Necromancer cage waiting for experimentation.

Yeah, it is a tad depressing. Too cold and windy, too much snow, ice, and rock. Where are the beaches, the forests and jungles, the lush GREEN vegetation? It's like playing Northrend in WoW most of the time.

On the other hand try playing the original Doom and Skyrim will suddenly seem far more temperate!

In fact compared to living in England at this time of year (LOL) I would rather hibernate and play Skyrim. I will emerge toward the end of March :)

It is kind of reminiscent of Northrend...specifically Dragonblight. Only 100000x more beautiful. On high end machines though, WoTLK style was AMAZING. Crystalsong Forest + Ulduar ftw.

I would be at home in the mountins, with my M40A1 of course.
I would take out Ulfric with a shot to the voice box.
