Would you like to be able to control more things about the g

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:06 pm

If Bethesda gave the option to control or manage things at the start of the game, would you like that?

These things could include: Population Density of various creatures / races, How good the economy of the world is, The amount of raw materials ( veins / trees / fish ), Historical Events that took place, etc.

Just for the sake of future questions that may arise to this post I'll go ahead and go into detail of how this could work.

How it works

So, upon creating a character you're given a question asking if you would like to change any of the aspects given. If you hit no, you're given the default settings ( the way the game should be ). If you hit yes, you're allowed to change certain things about the game.

Population Density Of Various Creatures / Races

One of the things you could change would be the population density of certain races + creatures. For example, you can increase the population of the Argonians and decrease the population of the Khajiit. Another example would be increasing the population of Mud Crabs and decreasing the population of Cliffracers ( if they're in the game ). Doing this would make it so you would find a ton of mud crabs along the coast, and very few Cliffracers along the cliffs.

The Economy

Another thing you could change would be the economy. What if you could control the density of the poor populations throughout the world. What if you could control the prices of various raw materials and such? Just another thought.

Raw Materials

Players would have the option to control the amount of raw materials throughout the world. You would be able to make all of the raw materials very abundant, or scarce. This could greatly effect the economy. This might not even be needed, it could just fit in with the economy option, but just an idea.

Historical Events

Players can determine the events that occurred previously in the game. I'm not very familiar with the lore, so I can't give any examples. But here's one for lolz: M'aiq the Liar manages to defeat Mankar Camoran and became Hero of Cyrodiil.

Basically I just took the idea from Bioware. In Dragon age 2, you could choose the historical events that took place in the previous game. In Mass Effect 2, you could choose your character's past.

Nah, way too much to think about. And I fear that if I tinkered with all that then the game would end up becoming a bit of a joke, knowing me.
Leave Bethesda to creating the game world, please.

I think it would be a bit too much for the player to deal with. Although you could mod that in if you want too.

Yup, I agree. I feel that I'd get a little too creative with the options and make it a little crazy. Remember though this would just be an OPTION in the game, you could just choose no if you don't feel like tampering with the gameplay.

In both of those games, that feature was included because they were designed to work off a "continued" save game from the previous chapter (Dragon Age:Origins, Mass Effect 1). So, for people starting the games without having a previous save, they put in a few things you could define. (And it's still not many - there's a whole bunch of decisions you can't change if you start a new Mass Effect 2 game, for instance.)

Still, sounds like a good idea to post on the Mods forum, once they add it.

To much, I was thinking along the lines of a hardcoe mode checklist. Do you want FT? Do you wish to eat, sleep, drink to stay alive? etc

I'd say no to that as well.

I just took the idea of that and then branched off with it a little.

I'm sorry but none of those are good ideas. Controlling Race density means Bethesda can't create even rudimentary characters, or have characters leading into quests. Controlling the amount of squalid areas and poverty again doesn't work for much the same reason. It would also mean they would have to make dozens of versions of each city. No character can ever be canon. The only significant choices are too grand to allow a player to determine them ie Warp in the West, and all characters come into a position of power... Do you not think they'd use it? My best character was Arch Mage and Champion of Cyrodiil and was far from evil, yet he would have removed the Mages' Guild ban on Necromancy.

I'm sorry, I wish there was a more polite way to say this but those ideas are just terrifically bad.

Darn, next time I'll be sure to include options such as levitation, being a were wolf, use of guns, and the idea of hard core mode.

I'd say no to that as well.

I would just like a moderate list of options for gameplay. Nothing to altering but nothing to restricted.

Why would you want to change these? And how?

The goal of character creation is not to create your own world, only to create your own character.
I see no reason why you should change things outside your character...

Exactly, the entire game would become extremely watered now in order to facilitate these options.
