Would you like Bethesda to do obscenity stronger in dialogs?

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 8:05 pm

The point is that dialogs could be else than just about figuring out how to successful press those replies that grants your character most experience, it could also be entertaining!!

For example there's this movie "http://www.imdb.org/title/tt0098328/?ref_=ttfc_fc_tt" and when Joseph and Hafner as newcomers report to the commanding officer on a small base in Vietnam surrounded by the Vietcong, the commanding officer is naked and high on grass and completely ignorant about the war close while showing off a picture of a naked woman with some dialog about those bubs.

Dialogs in Fallout seems extremely polite not to offend any one. But the fact is that your character is often blowing heads off, because he/she has to. In reality that is quite disgusting smell and whatever, and if you had to continue doing it, you would probably adjust your mind to it with comments like "well, that head didn't quite fit either ...", since crying isn't making any one stop it all.

So should Bethesda allow stronger obscenity in dialogs to make them funnier, more teasing, offending etc. instead of the "try the line red color if you got enough charisma!"??

This was definitely the case with the dialogue in Fallout 1 and 2 - And it added so much more the experience

So, yes!

What's done is done, and dialogs won't be changed. They already have your money and they will not invite the whole voice cast back to record gigabytes of new voice overs. Forget about it. Bethesda effed up. Period.

I dont think swearing heavily would be allowed since the game is targeting a wider audience meaning children since their the largest player base in the world.

Yeap. That's why it's rated Mature. Because it's targeted at children.

In a post-apocalyptic setting, there'd be far more [censored], torture, slavery, etc.. than what Fallout 4 depicts. It is sometimes mentioned, but not nearly enough as it should be. The game may be rated M, but it clearly wasn't designed for advlts.

The worst I've come across in Fallout 4 looks PG compared to Cook-Cook from Fallout: New Vegas and his.. exploits. Hell, you actually come across a [censored] victim in Fallout: New Vegas. Fallout 4 is nothing but rainbows, unicorns, and puppies.

True, but the game is still rated 18+ and has tags of Bad Language and Violence. So why the devs didn't go all out on Mature themes I don't have any idea. Probably because they don't have balls anymore.

Bethesda, for whatever reason, shies away from mature content. The older TES games actually featured nudity, so it's weird that they've gotten so soft. It's one thing if they were going for lighter ratings, but with Fallout 4 receiving an M anyway, one really has to wonder why they held back so much.

Yeah, Fallout 1 and 2 definitely had their dark and twisted aspects which fit the world of Fallout. Hell, Fallout 4 even removed Slavers aND slavery. Weird how tame this title is in comparison to previous ones, Fallout 3 included.

Honestly, the lack of that classic Fallout dark humor and darker aspects is detrimental to this game. This is Fallout in name only.

Everything is so politicaly correct and PG now. Take Bioware and Inquisition as example.

Guess Beth followed along in an attempt not to offend anyone.....

Yeah, because "enslaving" robots is so much darker than enslaving actual people and using them in "stables" to pump full of drugs to test the drugs effects.

Robots are people too though, right?

Op, only if it's done right. Obscenity for its own sake or immature obscenity is what I find frivolous and unnecessary. The Witcher 3 had advlt language and scenarios and they were done well.

Fallout 4 sure does make some very heavy references to transhumanism, very subtle/subliminal too so that many people will miss the obvious theme. Example I read was the Robot Nanny in the schoolhouse in Diamond City - how she is portrayed as being able to "fall in love" with a human! One course sees this "robot" actually getting married to a human being. The presence of the "Synths" adds credence to this. Whatever, back on topic.

Nice of you to contribute in such a meaningful way...

I agree with what most here are saying. Fallout 4 feels like a children's game compared to 3, and 3 was pretty damn soft compared to 1, 2, and NV, but at least it had some instances and allusions to the dark and twisted "mature" events that would transpire in this world, like real slavery. And let's not forget Springvale. There are lots of schools in 4, but all of the skeletons seem to only be from the faculty. 4 has violence, drug use, and a teensy bit of cursing (comparatively). That's more or less the extent of its mature themes.

Dialogs feel too soft generally, which has a negative impact on immersion. I wonder why they did it, If not for the rating?

The one story that stands out so far in my game is Cait's - felt quite realistic compared to others, there is slavery and more in it. It was told in a quite brief way though...

We had a poll here in the forum that shows that the majority of gamers are even above 30 years old.

Beside this, obscenity is bad for children, but running around and killing people is not? Huh ? What kind of logic is that?

Spoiler

They kidnap your son for genetic research.

They snatch and exposed people to FEV for drug reseach,

They create synths and uploaded memory's from people into them. Given what they do with other people they snatch its take your best guess as to what they do with the original,,, they have tons of options after all.....

They send synth s to replace people personally just to see what happens.

They create at least one synth clone of your own son and let him grow up normally because Hey! Whole body replacement!, just scoop out the current occupants

By comparison? Most slavers in fallout are tame.

t's done and I am fine with it. The fact that the protagonist is from a different time, akin to the '50s, when things were a lot different, and so in that context, their politeness makes sense.

I am 58 years young and from a time when one never heard profanity on television or movies. However, times have sure changed since then.

I'm fine with the vulgarity as it is. However i don't care if it goes further if it fits the game world and doesn't cross into "human centipede" sort of disgusting. I agree with Myst as far as the protagonists is concerned, they were born from a different time so should fit the time prior to the war.

We're the same age young and I agree. Also I've always somewhat lamented the rise of obscenity because when I was young its use really had impact and made a point. Now just part of thebackground noise.

Inquisition PG ? We talking about the game that has nudity, a fisting joke and a love interest who tells female PCs they have nice [censored] ?

It seems like every raider I run into calls me a mother-fracker, so I'm not sure why people think that the game lacks profanity.
