Would you like Elder Scrolls movies?

Post » Fri Mar 11, 2016 12:39 am

Hi,

I found this article http://moviepilot.com/posts/3386545

I think it could be interesting to see a movie franchise based on The Elder Scrolls univers.

What do you think?

I'm not against a TES movie, if there was a good story to tell, had a large enough budget to be an impressive fantasy epic and a good director who also have a good grasp of the game series.

Overall, I think it would be a slim chance of it actually ending up in a good way, so I wouldn't put my hopes up if they announced something :P

It seems to me that with all the killcams and scripted cut-scenes, we're already halfway there. ;)

As Freddo stated, there's a lot of "ifs" that would have to happen before I would go see a TES movie. So for now I'm going to say "No, but thanks.". I'm happy enough playing the games!

A good fantasy film that happens to be set in the TES universe? Sure. A movie made to capitalize on the popularity of TES games? No, I would not go see that. It would have to be a movie that could stand on its own merits first, and a TES movie second.

no not really.. game based movies have a track record of being horrible.. Hitman horrible, street fighter pretty darn bad, resident evil was a let down, and Super Mario Bros. literally destroyed the childhoods of all of use who grew up in the late 80s and 90s.. Tomb Raider was mildly salvageable, but for the wrong reasons..

As long as the person(s) hired to direct such a movie doesn't treat TES lore the same way Jackson treated Tolkien lore...

That really, really depends on how it is done. If it is to be done, it should be its own setting and not one of the games. It always feels lackluster when a movie presents a thing that stretches over many hours, into so few.

So in this era of time? No. Maybe one day, when movie makers have learned not to adapt, but to create its own story within the given universe or expand it. We'll see how the Warcraft Movie does and then maybe we can make a better stand point for what a TES movie could potentially be like. But as of the moment, I will say no.

No. I love skyrim but i would rather they first embraced other marketing such as novels (i dont count the 2 before skyrim), a tabletop rpg, a mini figure line like megabloks or heroclix and clothing

I saw a highschooler with a fallout 4 tshirt the other day and it made my day

I think fallout 3 or 4 makes much more sense as a movie. If done right it could be epic

A movie set in the TES universe could be interesting. Odds are, though, that it wouldn't be.

The main issue I see is that my own mental interpretation of the various cultures and individuals would be completely dashed by the producer's own vision, which would likely be something like a cheezy stereotype macho "Hercules" or "Conan" film geared for a grade-school audience.

Could be cool, but could also go very wrong. Then again, I have a feeling that even if it'd end up being pretty good that people here would still be enraged over how horrible it was. :P

I always say that a miniseries featuring Crassius Curio to the tune of Black Adder would be hilarious!

As always, if it could be made in a really good way then sure.

As long as it has nothing to do with what the article mentions cause those are really bad ideas to me for a TES movie. Make a movie based off of the real Barinziah or talos's rise to power.

And as far as a movie based on one of the games they should really do it based off of Oblivion. Have them bring back Sean bean and Patrick Stewart and all the other famous actors that they had do the voice overs.

I can see the battle for Bruma being an epic lord of the Rings sized battle

I, for one, really want to see an Oblivion Gate rendered onscreen with all the power of Hollywood.

I think I'd enjoy seeing an Oblivion movie which more or less followed the main questline.

A Morrowind movie could also seriously rock.

Any actual game storyline would be better served in an episodic TV series. Daggerfall is already basically Game of Thrones with dungeon crawling.

Some of the stories in the lore, though, would be pretty sweet. Like the life of Barenziah, or Tiber Septim's rise to power (complete with Rashomon-style direction where it's never clear what really transpired).

Morrowind would work best as a TV show the way it's set up. But on the other hand Oblivion and skyrim would work better as a 3 part movie with each part being at least 3 to 3 1/2 hours long. Any shorter and it would be a waste of time.

I would passionately hate any movie based on the storylines of the actual games.

But a film based on some interesting aspect of the lore that will never be directly shown in-game? Sure, I could get behind that.
