Would you like to join Dagoth Ur given the chance?

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 2:55 am

Yes. I don't like the available mods to do so though.

I voted no...
From a gameplay perspective it would be interesting and I'm of the opinion that more factions to join (and destroy) = better. But I voted from my character's point of view, and most of my characters would probably not want to join him.

My character dislikes the Empire and thinks the idea of kicking them out of Morrowind sounds great... If the invitation only had come from a more normal person who'd at least tried to make their hideout a little comfortable.

Unfortunately, my mind is to set on killing the dude, and my moral center won't allow me too, hence why I fail at stealth chars

I totally would. Dagoth Ur is a very intelligent and wise person, god, or whatever he should be defined as. I would love to conversate with him on various subjects concerning our common interests.
Oh, and Corprus Meat makes me hungry for some odd reason. Reminds me of a big, juicy steak.

Me? Not at all.

But a few of my characters sure would. Just like some of them would have wanted to join the Mythic Dawn. Just like some of them would have wanted to chance to tell Delphine and Esbern to shove it.

Dagoth Ur is a villain that I would really enjoy serving. He isn't your typical 'Evil Overlord' kind of guy, he's actually a fairly complex, even appealing, character.

There is a great Sixth House mod that allows you to join the Dark Side.

why don't you make your own mod?
he got some good dialogues indeed. i enjoy talking to him in his citadel. i really wanted an option to join him when he presented his offering.
stay.away.from.me.
i understand that feeling.
ur is as wise as vivec, maybe even wiser. he know what will happen to morrowind if n'wah keep running things around.

There is the mod called "The Sixth House" if you are wanting to play an evil character.

Then there is "Great House Dagoth", which is more shades of gray and is the one I went with.

I wonder if a branch in the MQ was originally planned, as the offer from Dagoth Ules (i think) seems like it was originally intended to be able to be accepted (Dagoth offers to let you join him later if I'm not mistaken, at a point in the plot where it wouldn't make sense to jump sides).

Yes, I thought that was a bit odd, that he asks you to join and then attacks you.

Well, even if that branch of the main quest had been intended and left in, I think Dagoth Gares still would have attacked the player-character, because immediately after infecting the player with corprus, he says, "Even as my Master wills, you shall come to him, in his flesh, and of his flesh."

The way I look at it, he gave you an incentive for going to speak to Dagoth Ur, and was how I played it in my own game/fan-fic. At that point my character figured there was nothing Caius Cosades could do for her, and she even blamed him for the fix she was in. (In fact she entirely blamed the Emperor and the Spymaster, and did not blame Dagoth Gares or Dagoth Ur at all.)

So instead of returning to Caius, she went to Voryn.

i always wondered if ur is serious in his offer, or just making fun of the nerevarine.
one thing kagrenac's tools excels is in the field of betrayal.tribunal betrayed nerevar and ur, almalexia betrayed her friends by killing sotha sil
maybe if the nerevarine join ur, they'll betray each other anyway..

but i still wanna join him though

Mmmm reding this thread made me realize something.
Yes I would love to join dagoth ur, ive done it in mods and iys great.

But sething did strike me though. Urs plans was basically almost like the thalmors. Thalmor and Ur want the elves to evolve and become immortal. Ur thru the desease and thalmor with getting rid of talos are trying to get rid of the nonelves. Ur by just wiping them out or changing them into mindless monsters and thalmor by deatroying them and unmakimg them. Almost as if Ur coulda pulled his off in the mortal realm without ending everything and the thalmor by destroying the mortal realm

As noble and honorable as Dagoth Ur is, his best intentions are still steeped in insanity. Dagoth Ur's will would make Tamriel a pandemic of corprus crazed monsters, the very nature of the corrupted power he derives from the heart of Lorkhan, power too great for mortals to wield. It may be true Dagoth Ur didn't physically die when Neravar and his allies forced Kagranac's Tools from him, but by then his tampering with Lorkhan's heart killed him in every other sense. The sad fate of the villian who's not a villian. He honestly believes he's saving his homeland and helping his people.

The only choice is to put him down and let his soul rest in peace.

I was under the impression the corprus and ash creatures were just a means of 'terrorism' being used to achieve his ends, and not representative of his actual goals.

Well it depends who u are when infected. I believe only dunmer can transcend to the ash creature type and continue evolving whereas nondunmer become the corprus beast creatures u see.
Yes an ash slave is bad but when they evolve or promoted to next form they continue to get an understanding of his plan and also the process helps the beings cope and get used to the theme of immortality. Immortality is nice but thruat upon most creatures, those that become immortal will break down because they are used to and generically no there is eventually an end, but as an immortal it never comes and the will lf the being diminsihes until that mortal being is no longer themselves.

Think of it like the dwemer endeavor except Ur is determined to make everyone of his flesh first before trying.

I respectfully disagree. His intention was to allow his people to "touch the divine". While it's true that a number of his followers stopped in their progress at the ash zombie and ash slave stage, the intent was for initiates to ascend to higher levels. The dialog that was written for the Ash Priests and Ascended Sleepers show them to be more "lucid" than the ash zombies who are talking to the furniture.

This suggests to me that the "mindless zombies" are not the ideal that Dagoth Ur is aiming for, but the unfortunate result of not all of his followers able to handle the power that the Heart of Lorkhan bestows.

Hehe, just reading my post in the preview window for posting; Since my character sided with Dagoth Ur, and his is still alive and well in my game and fanfic, I tend to speak of him in the present tense, as that is my personal canon for Morrowind.
