Would you like less enemies on the roads?

Post » Thu Jun 30, 2011 8:53 pm

One thing that always annoyed me about traveling in OB was that the best way, it seemed, to fight and find enemies without going into a dungeon or punch a cop in the face was to walk along the roads.

The roads are supposed to be safe, patrolled by guards and all that, but it seems that every 20 feet (exaggerating) there is a wolf, bear, or minotaur standing right in the middle of it.

Those guards lied to me....

Anyways, I would like more animal enemies to live in the wilderness in nests or something, and less to be on the roads. (Bandits hiding near roads is fine, but they should actually go into the sneak animation when a guard walks by, or if they are feeling courageous, attack the guard.)

This also brings me to forts: Why are the many abandoned forts 2 feet off roads abandoned? I would think the guards could use them as effective posts to change patrols and stuff, ya know?

I agree with the Forts thing which was refreshing to hear Todd say about the Guards from the nearby Fort(Or did he say Guard Tower?) was helping him during his fight.

Seriously? I thought travel by roads was boring until I installed a few mods to fix it.

Actually... I want more of them and the XP that comes with it... It would be fun to have companions too that help you getting more XPs... *drools*

What we need is a heck of lot more life on the roads all round

More guards, more travelling merchants, more people just going from A to B, and - yes- more enemies.

It was boring walking along the roads in Oblivion and hardly seeing a soul....

Well roads should be boring, they're roads, lol.

And if there are less enemies on the roads (like minotaurs and bears, because I don't think human npc's can fight those very well) than the idea of traveling merchants would be more feasible

I'd want it to have less 'monsters' and such, but more 'random' bandit attacks and the likes, or highwaymen and stuff.

Yes I agree, but like this next quote says...

This is what I would like when I say more enemies. More humanoids, less non-humanoids

I'd like for it to be toned down a bit as far as enemies go, but I'm hoping for a large increase in wildlife interaction around you while also running into couriers and random civilians traveling within Skyrim to do/visit whatever/whoever. Hell, maybe even random nature events, like occasionally you'll be walking and there will be a part of the environment on fire or you walk by a mountain and you see a small boulder fall from a hill or something. Just random things I guess? That's what I'm hoping for at least, within reason.

Less on the road, but more in the wild.

However I want more PEOPLE on the road! (Hostile and friendly) for the realism factor

I agree with the sentiment that roads should have more "life" to them, but in the form of humanoid encounters. I don't see the fun of fighting random monsters all the time--I'd rather deal with bandits, or run into a trade caravan, or even just save somebody from being attacked by monsters. Monsters aren't interesting--people are.

i really hated how minotaurs were always on the roads....
Peacefully listening to wings of kynareth while walking....and bam! Some [censored] with a giant warhammer and a set of horns is up in my face.

I agree that Minotaurs appearing at random on roads was a little far fetched. But I would like to see more Goblin ambushes on roads and pathways as well as Bandits, prehaps even stumbling on a skirmish between the two groups, a fight for territory. I'm suprised this wasn't included in OB

I think less monster and bandits would be appealing... if they made the encounters more interesting. Along with other non-hostile travelers it would be pretty fun traveling the roads, mehthinks.

I think more bandits and maruaders as opposed to wolves yes definately, and those bandit attacks should be fewer, but harder. I mean it annoyed the HELL out of me, taking one of those long treks to some far flung area during the main quest, and every couple seconds I ran into another timberwolf. They werent even hard encounters... but with patrols going along, you figure the wolf problem would be a little less so

It really depends on exactly what state Skyrim is in because of this civil war. What I would really like to see are more sensible enemies, wolves, bears and mountain lions don't seem particularly likely but bandits/brigands/highwaymen do. How many of the enemies depending on how anarchic Skyrim is.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing more enemies on the roads now that not everything feels compelled to chase you to the ends of the Nirn or attack you on sight.

There are going to be dragons literally everywhere and you guys are worried about running into bandits. Come on. Not to mention that but there is civil war. The roads wont be nearly as safe as Cyrodiil.

I would like to see not necessarily more enemies but more life on the roads. I agree that there shouldnt be packs of wolves right on the road but the occasional lone couple of wolves or other such creatures 'crossing' the road I can see. Also I think that there should be NPC's friendly or not that are travelling the roads as well. I want to feel like im walking down a travelled road.

There will be less combat while traveling in SR because there is more passive and neutral wildlife than in past games. So roads won't having as many hostile mobs on them.

I want less enemies ON the roads, but I'd like to occasionally have a group of bandits be hiding alongside the road to ambush me.
