Would You Like To See Another Obsidian Spin-Off?

Post » Wed Oct 13, 2010 3:48 am

i would love to see another obsidian spin off like they did with fallout 3. i think it lends a bit of competition which is always good and it gives us another TES game to mess around with after a couple of years..........maybe even cut the wait time between TES games in half if they continued to do it that way. :)

This. Bethesda makes TES games. I'd like to keep it that way.

I'm not a big fan of spinoffs either. NV was okay, but not good IMO. The only good thing it added was hardcoe mode.

Yes and no. Seeing a spin-off in terms of a new "Elder Scrolls adventures" game would be awesome. By Obsidian? No. They were good for Fallout because a lot of their team was from Black Isle Studios (creators of Fallout.) But I don't think they would be right for a ES game.

Edit* just to clarify I meant if a spin-off game ever happened I would want it done by Bethesda Game Studios. But I guess it would be better to just spend that time on making a really awesome expansion.

the only thing good about fallout new vegas was hardcoe mode and new locations (game was rushed and super buggy)

story as good as Fallout 3 IMO (3 was just buggy but not rushed lulz)

No, never. It's a matter of intimacy, I don't trust a new developer could build something different while keeping the core unaltered.

I'm all in favour of any kind of TES - be it spin off, sequel or novel. I would like to see someone make a TES of another genre - RTS, action game a la God Of War, hell even a futuristic shooter (Orcs vs Bretons anyone?) That last one's a joke, but once they've got the engine done, why not license the title out to others. I honestly believe that is the only way we'll ever return to Morrowind.

The reason why Obsidian did Fallout is that a lot of their staff worked on the original Fallouts. This obviously isn't the case with TES.

As long as it's a spin off and not the next Tes, sure, why not? New Vegas proved to be a very good idea, the old Fallout fans at nma say it's much more 'Fallout' than Fallout 3.
For Tes I'd be curious to see how another studio can pull off such a difficult task as making a Tes. I'd give it to BioWare or to those guys who made The Witcher.

Oh and NV isn't a spin-off. It's more-or-less a sequel to Fallout 2.

Can blame Bethesda for that, they set the deadline and pushed the game out the door too soon, they were also the ones who handled QA.

No no no, this is Tes not Fallout! This is serious business. This series is twice as old as Fallout and is the flagship for Beth. I don't say I wouldn't play such a game, I'm only saying I would be dissapointed with Beth letting intruders in their sanctum. The only positive thing about this would be the short production time, like it was for FNV which is basically a big Fo3 mod sooner than a brand new game.

Agreed about keeping TES with Bethesda. As far as New Vegas goes, in many areas it is much better than Fallout 3 but where Combat and meaningful exploration is concerned it really falls flat. IMO those two areas have hurt the prospects of it being a truly great game.

Despite me bullying Bethesda for FO3 I am very excited for Skyrim, I look forward to it over every other title announced for this year. ;)
