Would you like to see a faction like NOD in Fallout?

Post » Fri Jun 24, 2011 5:24 pm

I'm talking about the brotherhood of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD1U5_AcB0k led by http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r93c6qN9XyY

NOD is an organization that believes in Kane as the prophet that prophesized the alien tiberium crystal that is destroying the earth as a catalyst for the next stage of human evolution and discovery. They are at war with the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) which is trying to rid the world of tiberium. GDI considers NOD a terrorist organization.

The core of NOD is very well trained and using the latest technology that they develop on their own with flavors of exoticism attached to most of their high tech equipment. They use Cyborgs, Walkers, laser based hover crafts, etc.

The brunt of NOD infantry and terrorists come in numbers from the war ravaged yellow zones that have joined NOD to fight the people they feel are oppressing them....GDI.

Kane is obsessed with ascension....to the point that he provoked an ion cannon blast on liquid tiberium to attract attention of alien visitors who have come to harvest tiberium and build portals to galaxies away. Kane wants to use the portals to escape Earth.

I'm not aware of a tiberium anologue in the Fallout setting, and without that I'm not sure what distinguishes the Brotherhood from a fairly mundane cult. How would you integrate the Brotherhood into Fallout?

Nooo... leave the command and conquer stuff in command in conquer. Kane lives in death! Does not belong in fallout.

In a way the Master and Kane are very similar in that they are leader of cults. Well the original command and conquer Kane wasn't really a cult leader worshiped as a god that didn't happen until tiberian sun. Kane does not really belong in fallout but don't get me wrong NOD was always my favorite faction in command and conquer their units were weaker but they just had the cooler units.

I was thinking to myself. Well some people don't want to see the Enclave come back because that would be too redundant. And I was like, well I don't want to see more backward tribals trying to emulate the past failures of history, so I thought, hey what about NOD?

I was thinking of a NOD inspired faction.

I'm thinking of an advanced cult getting behind a charismatic prophet who believes the nuclear holocaust was a great cleansing to bring about unity to the world.

They would be a militaristic, religious, cultural, nation all rolled into one. Very advanced and followers are willing to die for the cause. I'm thinking advanced as in more advanced than The Enclave. Cyborgs, hover crafts, avatar walkers, etc...

Not really falloutish... Enclave and brotherhood of steel is about as advanced its going to get.

Now a faction that makes energy weapons or something I could see but cyborgs and hover crafts no.

As for being a cult and having a prophet type leader sure fallout was full of goofy cults like the Children of the cathedral and the hubologist.

OK...what about the cyborg perk. Or the fact that Dr. Usanagi makes you cyborg by putting all those implants in you.

We can have a giant death robot, but we can't have hover crafts???

I'd definetly love to see something like this. A faction that has developed tech independant of the factions we already know, so that we're seeing something new. This idea is along the similar lines to what I asked in this thread: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1203731-moving-on-from-pre-war-technology/

I totally agree, Jaso. I would love to see more technology in Fallout, developed more advanced than what has been developed so far.

We were introduced to androids in Fallout 3, so cyborgs would be cool. I think it would be awesome if we can see a world order with exotic advanced weapons spreading around.

Definitely. After 200 years there should be at least few groups somewhere that have made some fairly significant progress, dispite the dificulties of the wasteland.

If there was a NOD-like faction in the wasteland, they could easily be more effective at creating a world order than just Caesar declaring himself a God, using slavery, and shunning technology.

In fact NOD would kick the crap out of any faction currently in the Fallout universe.

Soon as you said aliens it was over.

EA or who ever has C&C ruined it. I just want fo factions, and some new one, but not like that. Too much high tech stuff that is not in fo world.

To get some of it into fo would take some massive story telling.
If you want Bethesda to really look bad have them put something like that in.

Here's some pics that look falloutish (mostly, but you get the idea) and I think would fit the concept of this type of faction.

I'd rather have any form of Nod stay away from Fallout, even if just inspired by Nod. Their tech is just too advanced. I think we need a new faction that's completely fresh and original that becomes a major player. Just my 2 cents.

Eh, that stuff looks more WH40K then Fallout to me.

Think of stuff from these movies/shows:
Sky captain and the world of tomorrow
Buck Rogers
Flash Gordon
Lost in Space(the original)

For stuff that would fit into the Fallout world.

They do look falloutish, but WHO,WHAT,WHEN,WHERE,HOW and WHY? The U.S. were the only ones to have pa pre war. Enclave were the only ones to build it post war. (possibly mid west bos.... bethesda will have to sort through that) A major story would need to be made up. I can no doubt be done, but it will take a great story teller to make it believable. All the transportation is too much for fo.

Its hard to convince people a pre war tank could be restored. Fly in with jet powered of hover crafts and people will flip.

Enclave was the closest to nod I think fo will get.

There is a high tech group called The Shi who were making great strides in tech, but no one knows if they are dead or alive.

A NOD like group can be done, it will just take Bethesda being bold, and a very convicting writer.

I gave you examples of basicly what inspired Fallout stuff in my post you quoted ( I edited stuff in.)

Just look at http://www.robotliving.com/wp-content/uploads/lost_in_space_robot_body_1_2_2004.jpg and http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110126151302/fallout/images/d/d7/Robobrain.png

really the direct your going point to the dark Sci-fi themes in Warhammer 40K and not in the theme of the Fallouts.

I don't think it should have tanks, jets, etc or be some sort of massive superpower. Just something similar in size to the BOS or Enclave, or maybe the city made from the vault in the original games (vault city???). I'm really just interested in seeing something new / different over what has been in the other games, so I guess whether or not the tech is more advanced isn't that important.

Edit: want to fill me in on the shi? I've never heard of them before.

cyborgs like the The Terminator 600 or 101 series are doable, but again it would take a great story teller, and would have to come fron Canada. IMO. If androids can be made so can robots that know friend of foe running on a serious combat chassis.

Again people do not want to belive 2 tanks can be restored. Its all about the story teller.

People think they know everything, but fo has covered nothing. West coast, middle america that had serious robots and a tank, and DC that is it. The whole world is out there, so in all reality anything is possible. CL and pure tribals svck, and are less believable to me than a terminator. How would they stop speaking English? makes no sense at all.

Ah ok I get where you're coming from now, and I do love that style in the fallouts. I guess there's plenty of other sci-fi out there with the stuff I was talking about that I can see.

look the shi up on wiki. They were out there......

A few tanks being restored is highly likely IMO

If this faction is made it would need to be big and powerful. No point in having it if they hide in holes.

I m almost positive Vault city is NCR
