Would you like to see a Gambling Parlour in Fallout 4?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 10:44 am

So, with Fallout: New Vegas, we saw the addition of casinos to the Fallout games since Bethesda's acquisition of the IP. Personally, I enjoyed them but how about you? Would you like to see a gambling den of some kind? It wouldn't be a Vegas, but at least it'd add variety to the game as well. (Hopefully with no play cap or we can continue playing but win no more chips until we negate the total chip break we earned to zero or some other way to keep gambling from breaking the economy.)

Edit: A poll for lurkers and a quick read of community preferences.

I'd like the return of Caravan, personally. This time, with an instructed tutorial instead of a bombardment of rules in a tutorial screen or pipboy note. I didn't get Caravan until I actually sat down and read the rules in a more readable format on Nukapedia.

Obviously, the tut would be extraneous to those of us who already know it, but it'd help for new players or FONV vets who are still going "Whoziwhatsit? What does the Joker do again?"

If you know how to deftly screw your opponent over with a Joker while avoiding damage to your own caravans (or even lightening your overloaded caravans), then you are an eminent expert Caravan player. :D

I'll trade gambling with baseball. How cool would that be? Post-apocalyptic baseball, Mutants vs humans. I have no idea how that would work, maybe a VATS system Baseball? Time freezes as the ball approaches and you choose where to send the ball to, with percentages showing on screen and all? Upgrading Baseball equipment? An apocalyptic twist to the game? No? ok, I'll take a seat over there.

Yes. The people of the wasteland needs to have some form of entertainment and gambling is a very easy explanation for how they entertain themselves. It also helps flesh out settlements that have it so we can understand how they entice wastelanders to want to come to their settlement in particular to spend their caps. There should also be strip clubs, brothels, boxing rings and fight clubs. Raider areas should hold arena fights. The people of the wasteland shouldn't be portrayed as merely surviving, they should be 'living'. Some days will be bad and some days will be good. And in order to have a good day in the world of Fallout you need something that takes your mind off of your day to day struggles. The things I listed, along with gambling, helps.

Yes, gambling and other forms of entertainment should be shown in Fallout 4. As Gabriel said, people need entertainment and we need to see this represented in the game. Boxing rings and other martial sports, as shown in Fallout 2, should definitely make a comeback.

Also, Caravan being in 4 could work since the majority of the people who play it are traders and caravaners. So it wouldn't be surprising to see the game spread slowly to all parts of the country given enough time.

It would be nice to have. Give you a chance to kick back after a hard day in the Wasteland. Also the opportunity to win some caps.

I must admit I didn't take the time to learn Caravan. Played the hell out of some black jack though. I wouldn't mind if it was a part of some corner of s seedy bar.

All Fallout has gambling, excepted for F3. So, yes.

I'm down, especially if gambling or any mini-games pass in real-time. That way I could actually spend my days as a regular citizen instead of as some adventurer. Skyrim just barely scratched the surface on "slife-of-life" gameplay.

I would love to see gambling return.

As far as other recreational activities, baseball would be fun to see, but I doubt it's going to be there since it seems like Wrigley Field has been transformed into a city. I'd also like to see boxing, both as a form of gambling (betting on the outcome of fights) and actually participating in them. A shooting gallery kind of thing with a BB gun would be fun too.

Oh god please no caravan and no Gwent. Stick to games that are somewhat easily approachable. KOTOR had blackjack with a cool twist. The Witcher 2 had dice poker. Assassins Creed had checkers. New Vegas had Slots and Roulette. Keep it simple If I have to visit an outside source to figure your game out, you're trying too hard.

I disagree with that last part. If you have to visit an outside source to figure it out, the game didn't do a good enough job explaining it.

I want Caravan to return, and I personally wouldn't mind seeing some more new card games, provided they are explained in a well organized fashion, preferably with the rules in an actual physical instruction manual as a failsafe.

Caravan is one of my favorite additions from New Vegas, because it really makes sense from an in-universe perspective. Decks of cards would get worn out and ruined as time goes on, and so a game that lets you cobble together random decks together is a logical step to keep the play form alive.

No Lucky Horseshoes?

Caravan strikes me as something that was out west, not in the eastern part of the country.

Sure. But Id prefer Blackjack. Best odds and Card counting system allready in place.

But any kind of gambling World be welcome. Sportsbetting where you bribe or threaten people to fold a game, street chess, craps, anything would be fun.

I'd prefer some straight up Poker and a return of Blackjack.

Hey, Skyrim had tavern brawls. Betting on or being in boxing matches would be pretty sweet. And what if the blackjack mini-game included "card counting" hints for characters with high INT?

Not to mention it would make Luck more useful, which in itself is welcome.

Yeah. But to add to that post. Also the opportunity to willfully spend caps. Honestly, in pretty much every bethgame, at some point I have more money than I can spend in a dozen PTs.

It would be fun to be able to "break The bank" thusly winning a stronghold and then start your own "Boardwalk Empire" esque business. Extending large markers to institute scientists and then exchange their markers for upgrades to the slot machines, an android dealer or just Plain Tech. Or political favours from visiting dignitairies.

I don't know if straight up poker and casinos really work in the setting. I don't know much about Boston but I'm guessing they don't really have a large gambling scene? Correct me if I'm wrong. I think other card games or things like that could work ala caravan or something along those lines.

I'd like to see that kind of thing, but Bethesda isn't exactly known for putting minigames in its titles, unfortunately.

Oh, absolutely. Of course not to the extend of New Vegas for the sake of the setting as you say. Just some basic card games would do just fine, be they actual ones like poker or the made up ones of Fallout like a return of Caravan. I didn't play it too often, but I was able to get the jest of it and enjoy playing it when I did.

Other means of gambling are always a welcome as well, like placing bets at some sort of event. Betting on radscorpion fights would be something cool to see in Fallout.

Yes, of course! Because it is fun!

I also would like to see some kind of unique game created just for Fallout 4, like gwent in Witcher 3 and caravan in New Vegas.
