what are sirens?

In Greek mythology, the Sirens were three dangerous bird-women, portrayed as seductresses who lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island. more on wiki :tops:

Mhm... well, considering the fact that about 1/3 of Skyrim's border is a coast...

They're in God Of War. Pretty cool enemies, so I wouldn't mind seeing them. I'm all for more enemies and more diversity.

Sirens are too loud. WEEEOOOOWEEEEOOOWEEEOOOO.

Oh, no, wait, you mean that thing in TESIV. You know, if those women call themselves "sirens" because they lure men, then the name "siren" must refer to something that lures people, which, with a short leap of logic, would imply that there is some sort of creature/monster in the TES world that lures people to a probable doom.

If that is the case, then I would propose that a new monster/creature/humanoid be introduced into the world that somehow lures NPCs and/or the player character (either by hijacking your controls or creating some sort of illusion that fools the player). And, since there are MANY MANY MANY similar creatures in world mythology (all with peculiar and fascinating characteristics), the fact that it is called a "siren" would carry the marine baggage associated with the greek mythology monster-woman-thing.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, the sirens in God of War were awesome. I could totally see those in Skyrim, chillin' with the banshees and having slumberparties and playing hackysack with some poor adventurer's head.

No No No....

Instead of attractive women we need weresharks that do the song.

So then its like they get lured in and then get their heads bitten off.

Ima right?

He is not.

Originally, sirens were ugly bird-women with beautiful voices, that attracted men to eat them. Later, this mythical creatures were depicted as something very different, what it's known as mermaids: beautiful women with fish tails. I think that in greek the same word is applied to both beasts, as it's in roman languages.

It would be rather stupid to have the right next to the coast. Haven't you ever ready the Odyssey? If they were near the shore, they would be easily killable by the local populace.

Its not a matter of shoreline, its a matter of playable ocean, which I wouldn't imagine is very much.

Their audio track couldn't possible live up to expectations. I mean that seriously: if they add sirens whose song doesn't captivate me, I will resent them. It's a no-win situation.

Well, actually, sirens, mermaids or whatever were not on my mind when I posted that. I just wanted to point out that there is a lot of ocean...

The ghosts of female Elves, thinking about it , wouldn't it be wonderful if, instead of generic ghosts, everyone was the ghost of a Bosmer, Khajiit, or whatever. "It's a ghost!" [casts no thought anti undead fireball] "Oh bugger, it's a Dunmer Ghost."

In an Elder Scrolls game? Yes. In Skyrim? No. I don't really think they fit the setting.
