Would You Like Special Power Armor?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 4:25 pm

As the topic suggests, would you guys like to see special kinds of power armor? We already have the relatively standard T series and the more advanced X models, but what about something with a different focus? For example, power armor with little to no armor, but gives improved movement speed and an omnidirectional boost? Or power armor that is even more tanky than the standard, but slower and consumes more power?

Power Armor...that is not armored...

You know they call those clothes, right?

Not really, clothing doesn't have a special servo system in it. You could essentially have power armor that makes you run faster, jump higher, boost, etc. Power armor isn't *just* armor.

I would argue this...And I find it greatly unnecessary.

Why not? Giving players an option to change out the armor on your power armor and replace it with lightweight or heavy duty components sounds like a decent idea. Although it goes against the original idea to a certain extent, having light, medium, and heavy power armor doesn't sound like such a crazy idea.

Or they could just simply, you know, wear lightweight armor. Power armor is meant to be big, hulking, bulky, beasts.... for everything else, there's mastercard literally any other armor in the game, and with the ability to add armor pieces to regular clothing... the options are pretty great.

But as I said, the only reason you can go *about* as fast as when you aren't armored is because of special servos. I'm talking about an option to strip the heavier components to make your character go faster than if he wasn't wearing armor. We already have jump jets on the freaking things.

Unnecessary because you both basically have valid points. If you took the armor off powered armor, it wouldn't be "armor" though I suspect it would be better than nothing.
You'd still have the Powered bit though, and I think OP is getting at the idea of just the power assist. Faster running, way less fatigue, and way more carry weight?

Why does this have to be power armor though? The idea could be applied to special lightweight armor that increased sprint power and movement speed. Why does Power Armor suddenly have to become this "all in one" thing to the point of other outfits and armors becoming redundant?

Exactly. Furthermore, you have the jumpjets we saw from the trailer. Higher jump height, perhaps even an option to use it for dodging. The way I envision it would be a run'n gun style power armor, rather than a heavy armor used for taking on tanks.

Striping off the plating could be cool to get the whole Elisium feel :)

Would be cool to have specialised customisations with pros and cons depending on the situation. maybe weapon brackets allowing for additional ammo and improved heavy weapon control at the cost of the jump jets and general mobility. Maybe insulated plating that reduces energy weapons damage and protects against emp but drains battery more significantly when hit with such weapons. Maybe a ridiculously retro back pack sized aim assist CPU, sacrificing jump jets for automated targeting systems with guided weapons. More crazy stuff like piston arm assists that allow for fus-do-rah style KO punches and body shattering melee attacks, maybe even wall punching ala Deus Ex ? :D

I wouldn't mind seeing more variant models like Tesla and Hellfire, but keep them bulky.

I'm not sure what a completely new model could look like, though.

if this new crafting is indeed what it is as they showed it you probably can craft your own specialized power armour if you got the right materials and perks

No, just an exoskeleton; no armor. Like the power loader in Aliens.

Well the game does have synths so a better way to go about this is synth upgrades. Energy-powered quads to make you go faster and leap greater distances.
Implants that do things other than +1 to Attribute. Nothing useless like the Regen implant in NV.

Maybe, but it'd be risky for the series since Fallout has only ever really had standard Power Armour as far as I know. A modified type of Recon Armour that boosts your stealth field or speed/agility could work I guess, but Bethesda wouldn't want to break canon and bring in exosuits from Advanced Warfare or something (sorry for the COD reference :P )

Stripping off the armor would make the Power 'Armor' no longer armor, but rather a "Power Suit". Stripping the heavy armor plates off down to almost the skeletal body, while also keeping it's powerful bonuses, allow the user to be possibly faster than a Power Armor fella, agile while keeping some of the strength benefits, though sacrificing defense. I'd call it basically a "Glass Cannon" suit.

power armor is a just a walking tank and there have been light tanks, also it'd be extremely strange if they never built (or at least, intended to build) different types of armor for different situations

Necrovamp- I'd be shocked if your wish for lightweight, faster moving power armor isn't in the game. They've shown that there is a deep customization system for PA, and when you think about possible customization trade offs one of the most basic decisions is movement speed vs protection. While power armor has traditionally been the big bulky suit, Beth is clearly looking to bring diversity to every aspect of weapons and armor, and PA will be no exception. Whether or not you think this is a good thing or not is debatable (I'm not that personally invested either way; if it allows people who care to have options I don't see how that's a bad thing), but there is no doubt that it's happening.

i don't see why not

there's a healthy range of armors, why not a range in the pa

I'd love classified blueprints on power armor pieces to be collectibles around the wasteland or even full quests to gather the specific materials to build them. It would be great for Intelligence oriented characters.

Sounds like a good solid proposal to me, I like it and hope that is what interchangeable aemor parts allows.

Are you familiar with the Mid Western BoS power armor and advanced power armor from Fallout Tactics the Enclave advanced armor is supposed to be based on?

Check it out at http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Advanced_power_armor_%28Fallout_Tactics%29, looks fast powerful and light weight, might not be unlikely the Institute could have gotten some from some enclave research facility.

I would like the opportunity to have or make a less bulky, clunky power armor than we have now.

I would love to see something simular (If not the actual model) to what the Enclave Tesla Armor. An armor that is meh against physical attacks, but made energy weapons ineffective. Something simular for radiation restance as well.

I like the idea of a lightweight exoskeleton of the Power Armor, stripped of plating being worn.
