Would you pay more for Skyrim if it had more features?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 4:05 pm

I was just thinking, people on these forums have long wishlists for more complexity, and things that would require more designers/voice actors/writers etc. The question is, would you pay (considerably) more than the norm for a new game if it meant more goodies in the final game?

Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

I'm going to buy all of the DLC for this game, and if Bethesda could make it worth it, I wouldn't mind investing more money into this game!

If I had the choice of paying for:

a. A game which 1 super famous voice actor and 20 others doing the rest, at $60....

or

b. A game with 1,000 random voice actors people never hear of for $100.

I'd pick b.

iTimmeh: Agreed, a lot. Although I do remember them saying Skyrim had like 80+ VA's compared to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Voice_Actors, not counting the celebrities.

Having some celebrities for main quest characters is alright though, they should have their own unique voice.

That's kind of what a DLC is. Paying more for more content. (content which should be in the game from the beginning IMO)

This depends on what features would be added and how much more would cost. But as SamStarkweather has stated in a sutile way, the question could have been formulated like "will you buy all DLCs?".

Yeah, but things like voice acting are kinda implicit to the main game. I will certainly be downloading DLC, but there are some things that HAVE to come with the game.

What do you believe should have to come with the game?

Seriously. People complain a lot about the horse armor, but I was far more annoyed by the Orrery. I mean, there was a door already built into the game! What do you mean I have to fork over some money just so I can walk through it?!

Well, to give a good comparison.

The game will probably cost about $110 in Australia on release. The team has about 100 members. If they upped the team to 130 quality members and had a comparitive increase in quality, I wouldn't mind paying an additional $20-30 for the game. Elder Scrolls games are the sort that are really distanced but important releases, and thus more content is worth the extra price for me. It's pay a bit more for a one every 5 years game giving me hundreds of hours or pay a normal price fora one every 2 years game giving me 10 hours.

I'd pay $20 for co op. and so would all of my buddies. Bethesda is sitting on a GOLD MINE if they just had co op. Honestly put my friends character in my world and make every monster 1.25-1.5 times stronger. Problem solved, you just made millions. They're great developers, but imo they are fools.

raising the price 40 dollars probably wouldn't have much effect on us, the Skyrim-forum-goers, but it'd probably have a pretty drastic effect on the total amount of games sold.

but yeah... if they could make MY perfect elder scrolls game, i would pay up to... $150 for it, but that's only for my own, subjectively perfect game.

It's pretty ridiculous. 10 or so years ago it made sense because our dollar was about 60 US cents, but now they're basically the same value, but they can still charge us that much because we have no alternative except not buying them! We can't even get them from America because of the stupid region codes games have.

EDIT: They do this with everything. My PS3 40GB I got a few years ago was $600 when in the US you could get it for $300 with 80gb and a free blu-ray movie.

What Beth offers in their games compared to a lot of other developers, at the same price, is commendable.

I skip most DLC for the games I get. Not worth the hassle of dealing with whatever proprietary online shop each company comes up with.

Only ended up with two of the Fallout 3 DLC. Finally got around to playing Shivering Isles/KotN this past month (grabbed the Oblivion GotY box). Didn't even bother downloading all the Mass Effect 2 free DLCs, never mind the pay ones. (I'm waiting for a "Complete Edition" release for those ones.....)

So, no. I'd rather they just make a plan for a game, and make it. Not keep shoving more features in for the sake of it. (Which is also my normal response in all the "They should add from ! It'd be cool!" threads. No, just adding more features & options would not be cool. It'd be a disjointed mess.)

I would pay slightly more, maybe 10-20% than other titles regardless of what features Skyrim has. Beyond that, definitely any and all DLCs and yes I would even pay extra for new features.

Compared to any other game, I feel I get far more for my moneys worth from TES games and Bethesda should just keep on pumping out DLCs and new content/features because they will almost certainly increase their marginal revenues and profits.

If they keep putting out content for the game then i will continue to keep buying the content they put out. Its that simple. I would still be buying content for Oblivion if they were putting it out.
