Would you play on RP server?

Post » Mon Feb 10, 2014 2:22 pm

Titles says it all actually but for the sake of making things cleaner, let me explain what i mean be "RP Server".

1)No lore breaking names. You have to name your toon, appropriate for your faction and race.

2)Races locked to alliances. No Altmers in Ebonhearth Pack starting zone.

Edit:How about not having locked races, but if you wander into different faction's land all the NPCs become hostile? You can't get more immersive than that.

3)No playable Imperial characters. 'Nuff said.

3)No lore breaking discussions on public chat channels. No more "who is the best Twerker" discussions on /zone

4)Opposing faction players can kill eachother wherever they please. Think about the joy of sneaking behind Aldmeri Dominion players while they are raiding, and smashing them between the boss and your Daggerfall buddies!

Edit: I what i meant by wherever they please was not that another factions players coming to your welcoming/training island and laying waste to all the low levels. I was talking about having PvP enabled in the Cyrodil dungeons.

5)Factions "voting" for their emperors/leaders. Not the one who killed most enemy players, but the one who led your faction to victory will be the Emperor of Tamriel!

That's it for now, if you have other cool ideas, lets add them too. Who knows maybe someone from Bethesda will read this thread and make some of our dreams come true!

This would be amazing, simply. Amazing.(although i do not think anyone would follow the only RP rule on zone chat, and it would be impossible for the devs to keep an eye on that. Everything else sounds good though.)

Could be self-policed by an un-spoken rule that anyone who violates this gets /ignored by everybody but idk zone chat should be OOC IMO and local should be the RP section

I definitely would. Roleplayers seem to be a dying breed in current games, it is getting lonely out there.

This system actually works pretty good for LotRO. If you start talking about justin bieber on /region you get reported. At first infraction, you just get a warning, on second infraction, you get 1 day ban. On third... I don't know actually. Never met someone who broke that rule three times :D

Well there's only going to be one server for each system.

No I wouldn't, mostly because half of your rationals of what makes a RP server seem invalid to me. Races should be allowed to switch factions. Imperials should be allowed to be chosen. And I don't want some idiot player trying to kill me while adventuring, if I was into that I would play Dark Souls.

I will already be Roleplaying as it stands in ESO so I don't really need a dedicated server for it.

I would, but not the one you've set up.

1: Is the only one I agree with.

2/3: Sorry, but you're only limiting roleplay with this restriction.

3a: Public chat channels better serve OOC chat, you roleplay in /say.

4: Oh great, let the tide of gankers and griefers run rife through the RP community...

5: I've never been a fan of these sorts of popularity contests, it only results in fracturing the community.

Love it how you call someone an idiot for enjoying world pvp, makes you think of who is the Id.. oh wait nvm, would rather avoid a warning.

For me no world pvp means boring questing, especially once you have leveled up one character. Since it will be the same experience over and over with nothing to spice it up.

World pvp <3 Rp pvp servers even more <3

You know a ton of RPers actually enjoy PvP right? :P

Don't speak for the ''RP community'' as a whole, part of it sure, but there is the half that loves pvp too :)

Pretty much this. I'd love a separate RP server, but if I want to play a dunmer in the Aldmeri Dominion because, I dunno, perhaps his family has lived in Elsweyr for generations I should be able to RP that. That's the whole point. And being allowed to kill other faction players whenever you please just screams for abuse and I'm glad they're keeping the whole PvP thing restricted to Cyrodill (which I will be avoiding like the plague whenever I can :P)

But seeing as we'll only have one server... I'll RP as much as I can and try to ignore the obvious non-RPers. Does anyone know if I can disable to chat from showing up on my screen? That kills immersion.

Personally, I don't enjoy heavy gaming roleplay. However, I do enjoy encountering roleplayers who are good at it, and when I do I play along.

So I'm against people even having the option :D.

Personally, I do not RP but I prefer to play on RP servers because the players usually are more well behaved and have better grammar. While respecting the immersion of actual roleplayers, of course! Also, it's nice to chat about the lore with people that most likely know more about it than you.

So yes, I would play on a RP server!

Edit: Not too keen on most of your rules though. Seems like a recipe for a lot of unnecessary elitimist, no offense.

You missed my point entirely.

I do know RPers that like PvP, except the OP wants PvP everywhere, anytime. All this does is open the gate to griefers. I don't know many RPers who would be happily RPing in a town, doing their own RP with their friends, then have to change that up because some one wanted to slaughter the entire town. Most would just get annoyed, do their best to ignore the person messing with them and try to go on with their own RP.

That is the sort of thing you set up beforehand so that those who want to be a part of it can be a part of it, without that you're just griefing.

So you are OK with someone being the Emperor just because they are better at PvP and not OK with people actually voting to pick their rules? Interesting. Have you considered, as things stand right now, a healer or a tank has no chance of becoming emperor ever?

I'm not okay with anyone being emperor, that's something better left to NPC's.

Emperors, much like Kings, aren't voted into power. It is either their birthright or something they have taken by force.

This I can respect, although not agree. I think having a player emperor is a terrific thing. It makes guilds very meaningful and important.

1) I'd get behind this. Its always annoying running into a cat person named hello kitty.

2) Sort of behind this. However, I'd go more for star wars online method. You could make a race in another faction, only after you have leveled a member of that race up a ways.

3)No. I paid extra cash specifically to play an imperial. Its my favorite race in eso games, and frankly the lore reasons behind not allowing it were weak at best. (Like every imperial is suddenly in league with molag bal? Please.)

4) More of a pvp server thing. Frankly, I keep thinking about the people who raid low level pve areas and start murdering people who have no chance of winning. No thanks, if I wanted that I'd play eve online.

5) Dear god no. I can already see the Chinese vote farmers setting up shop. Now, if they counted up your pvp points, and if your faction won.. and then allowed you to vote for players with those points.. I'd like that.

I have seen RP work just fine in FFA pvp games, but we like different things then :P

Ofcourse there would be safe zones such as major cities, but outside that PvP possible.

(everyone here does realize none of this will actually happen though right?)

I like how you use a word I never used towards the OP. I said I thought his rational seemed invalid to me, but thanks for your opinion all the same, better luck next time.

Anywho as to your edited version OP, I am more ok with that version. Entering an opposing factions zone causing NPC's to become hostile does seem like a good idea but I imagine that would be to complicated to implement, but all the same I am fine with that. And PvP in Cyrodiil I am fine with as well, just so long as someone can't bugger into my adventuring and exploring in my own factions areas and start killing me because they are 30 levels above me or whatnot. I kinda went with the assumption that when in Cyrodiil its sort of open season regardless. So in that regard yes I would be ok with an RP server (still want the option for Imperials, don't plan as playing them but I really can't see why they would be unplayable). That being said I still intend to solo play/co-op ESO rather than play it in a competitive/'normal' MMO manner (whatever normal MMO means really).

Added: No lore breaking names or discussion I am fine with too, again seems a bit complicated but does seem like it could be fun. Faction leader being voted on, meh I think it should be left as the ones already, makes more sense story wise.

Yes. Might makes right, this is the Elder Scrolls way. That said, I'd actually like elections, I just don't have a problem with the current system.

I'd love to play on an RP server, but I don't agree with half of your requirements.

2 and 3 limit roleplaying instead of fostering it and make little sense lore-wise.

The other 3 I can kinda get behind, but I'd prefer it if the zone chat was OOC and roleplaying was done via /say.
