Would you prefer less armor/weapon styles for more cusomizab

Post » Sat Apr 02, 2011 3:19 am

I've seen a lot of polls/topics about both, but if you couldn't have the best of both worlds, which is more important to you?

*should've said "fewer" rather than "less" I suppose but whatever...

I don't understand the question... Less weapons/armor = less customization

Larger selection for sure. Mods always offer enough variety and customization of default armors.

Right. What is meant by customization? Changing colors? I'll take armor.

Excluding mods, I'll still take more armor.

Customization would be personalized things that the player controls - such as changing colors, symbols, and such.

Surprising to see how many people blindly take Quanity over Quality.

Give me a GOOD customization control, to make each armour/clothing I wear look unique, form being able to dye it colours (with multiple colors depending on the equipment/clothing) along with having symbols/hearlds to put on them and a layer system to add things inbetween.

I'd much rather be able to have equipment that looks "unique" to me, that no other NPC in the game has my exact "look" then to have 20+ choices of generic looking armour that you see over and over and over on npc's and things throughotu the world.

Being able to have a look that's my own with customization to do so is FAR better imo then having simply "more" base selections of equipment which I can't change a thing about, sot hat cool plate armour that you see on anyone else looks exactly hte same on you, same colour, same style, no family crest or color differences or anything.

Who says these players are "blindly" choosing?

Ill take variety over customization. I'd like to see the developers and artists spending time placeing many unique styles and cultures worth of clothing and armour, rather than working on a player-only customization system.

Kind of what I was thinking too. Fewer types of armor and weapons means fwwer options, and thus, less customizability.

Customization would be personalized things that the player controls - such as changing colors, symbols, and such.

In that case, no, I would not, even if I can change the color of my armor, that won't allow for such distinct armor as one can get with more different types of armor. If I want different colored versions of the same armor, I'll download some of the recolors that are sure to be released, and those will probably be among the first mods that actually in any way change the models and textures we'll see, because they're easy to do.

I guess the OP should have provided some examples of customization. I think the poll is more useful if mods are taken out of the equation.

The customization would have to be a hell of a lot better than Fable's for me to consider it. Their color change system was next to trash. And other than color and some symbols, what could we change? Meh. I'm still for more variety in armor/clothing.

Mods will allow us to "customize" but it's nice to have a really nice base to mod from and expand from there. Also more stuff means more customization simply because i can mix and match like i did in morrowind which was nice because unlike oblivion i wouldnt look ridicules if i mixed and matched.

As a console user with no access to mods, I voted for 'More customizability with a smaller selection'. I'd much rather decide what clothing to wear under my armor as well as pauldrons and other decals as opposed to having an enormous supply of armor that doesn't look good matched with anything else. In Oblivion for example, a glass cuirass & glass boots didn't look so hot paired with daedric guantlets & greaves. If they chose to follow this path, their would be endless amounts a variations.

As an owner of both x-box 360 and PC, I have different feelings about this topic. In general, I am always for a large variety of items avalible. Especially for a sandbox RPG. For the other things, like modifying and adding textures, models of armors and weapons, we on PC have nice little tools (thanks, Bethesda!). But... If I would play Skyrim on my x-box, I wouldn't have the "modding" option at all: I play the game as it is. So, if there will be built-in ways to customize my armor, to make my character look unique (adding an pre-set ornament here, changing belt colors there, custom sword guard and blade engraving, and so on) - I am all for it, even if this means less choices of equipment. Most of the Oblivion's high-grade armors look quite ridiculous anyway.

While I like what the Customization Party is saying. I'm always for making my unique mark on my character. I don't think they [Bethesda] have the time or feel the need to make an in-game basic editor. As both a PC and 360 owner a huge reason I play all my TES games on the PC is the mod community (though I do have a beef with a large majority of awesome armor mods being female only....). I would love to swap some stuff around on my items on the quick in-game, but I just don't think it will happen....at least not until the consoles have large amounts of storage standard (i.e. everyone of them has a HDD)

didnt vote dont like the options.

if customization included things like shirts under the curiass or pauldrons on either side or both as well as the colour/decal thing then i would want more armour plus customisation

Fable 2 had good customization, KINDA. Fable 3 had even less choices and really disappointed me, just like the game did. Shape of things and over all design are more important then what color it is. Granted it'd be nice if every type of clothing had multiple colors, just to add a bit more difference. We shouldn't be able to just change these on the fly, we'd have to shop around to find the pant style we like but in the proper color to match our shirts. And needless to say, more parts of armor and clothes and armor separated like in morrowind would definitely be a plus. And no I'm not a morrowind really devoted fan. I'm replaying it now and besides instant recharging magic items and the whole clothes and armor thing, I prefer oblivion.

This is not quality versus quantity question. It's more textures versus meshes question.

That actually says it all... Would open up a whole new dimension to the community: discussing their cusomisations on stock armors and modded armors...

I strongly dislike games that have reduced number of base weapons. It reeks of simplifying things.
