Would you rather have Skyrim on 11/11/11 or wait another 6 m

Post » Tue Aug 10, 2010 10:32 am

Modding communities can fix bugs better than Bethesda, so I say bring it as early as possible.

Bugs in the game's world construction? Sure. Bugs in the game's core code? No.

OT: The game would only be releasing early if they had previously announced a later release date. They have a schedule and no one is looming over them pushing the game out the door ahead of it. Will there be bugs? Of course. Will the game need to be patched? Almost certainly because there will always be something that can't be foreseen. It's the nature of the business.

Couple of things missing --- 1st how do you know it will not be polished if released on 11-11-11

This is a Bethesda TES game. Every game was buggy, espically Daggerfall, the mother of them all. Xbox users had to wait almost 6 months after release for the game to be released on Xbox and it still was
buggy. Oblivion was buggy as well.

Funny we forget how much we complain apon release of the game and so ready for it to happen again. Yes Skyrim will be buggy.
and 2nd how do you know waiting another 6 months to a year would actually allow them to fix any of those bugs if they did exist and not just release it later with mostly the same bugs !

Well I would hope they would fix those bugs, other wise, why wait to release the game then?

Release date, baby. It's already preordered. Then again, I've had excellent luck playing Bethesda games with very few bugs manifesting.

You're assuming it will be bug ridden...

I've NEVER had a problem.
They wouldn't announce it for 11/11/11 if they didn't believe it was ready...

Thing is most of the bugs are not even found until you have a large enough user base with different systems running the game to find them so even waiting for another year would not help them find some of the bugs - not to mention that many times fixing one bug can crete other bugs that are unforseen (ie. ID reference bug in OB that was discovered when SI released using code that created hundreds of reference IDs causing the game to overflow since it was not clearing references properly or the Animation-bomb in OB -- do you think they would run a test long enough to find a bug that breaks the game after several hundreds of hours on the same character due to referencing the wrong byte of code in a save game ???) - no amount of delay for testing is going to find all of the bugs since many of them only show up in unique circumstances !

Obsidian made this game, their fault.

The only problems I had was because my computer svcked when I first played oblivion.
And I remember my sister encountered bugs after I applyed Morrowinds patch, but those were one time things.

Anyways, with New Vegas out, no games quite compare in the bug department.

Aren't a lot of Bethesda game bugs not discovered until the game is released though? The scale on which the game is actually played is huge compared to most games, an entire community of gamers is obviously going to find more bugs than a single dev team.

That said, as long as the bugs that are present with release and will be there no matter how long the game is delayed aren't game breaking, I would rather have Skyrim this November.

All of them?

all of them worked fine for me the only real problem I had was that Oblivion's data got corrupted if you saved over it too much, I did not experience something that was buggy as hell

[censored]ing about bugs in a game that is not released yet and you can't take the time to use spell check?

Take the extra 10 seconds and make sure you create a correctly spelled (if whiny) thread.

I think they've been planning this long enough that it'll be mighty fine by the time 11/11/11 rolls around.

I'll be getting this game soon after it comes out. First day purchase most likely. I would like for them to have the bugs worked out by its release though. Hopefully they have allotted themselves enough time to properly test for any bugs before the game goes gold.

why are the threads so negative I mean as soon as they announce something people are always like this will be awe-full, I mean the attribute thing, nothing has even been said about that and people are saying it is a mistake that it isn't there, a few people were complaining about the duel wielding, and apparently the graphics need to be way better

I am just excited that it is announced, and everything in Game informer was awesome

Ive only ever had minor minor bugs, like falling through a cave floor trying to do something funky only to be poped back into place a second later. 11-11-11 i expect it to be in my hands.

I've waited a while.

But I would be willing to let them take their time to even add a few more featres in and iron out the creases in gameplay and leveling.

I am really getting tired of games being released early, and we have to wait months for patches. By months I mean, game comes out,
buggy as hell, (like most Bethesda games) then for alot of people, they can't play the game, have to wait a month, or 3 months to be
able to play the game, then another 3 months for the 2nd or 3rd big patch to fix the game.

I rather wait that extra 6-12 months for them to make that patch, and just have it ready when the game finally comes out.

I really hate the buy now, wait a month or so, so the game can be playable and then wait some more for the next patch to fix issues.
For me, I would like for the game to be held back and fixed and finished properly. I wouldn't mind rather waiting 6 months or a year
for this to be done. Since we know this most likely will not happen, and it will be released 11/11/11 (who knows maybe it will be held
back like Morrowind and I think Oblivion was held back as well) this will most likely be my last game I buy on game release.

For me, TES games are the exception (I just love Bethesda and expect them to release a buggy game :D) so I will always buy their
games on Day One release day.

Well the thing here is that every game has bugs, all of them. As for why Beth's games have been buggy, they've been using Gamebryo, a badly coded game engine, so it causes horrible glitches and stuttering. Now that they have their own engine, I expect to see very few bugs and if there are any, they shouldn't be game breaking. It's not like every game comes out early. There isn't a reason to delay Skyrim. I mean they announced the games release date 11 months before it comes out. That says to me that they are almost done/done with the game and are just giving themselves plenty of time to fine tune and refine the game.

You know the old saying, "it's a poor craftsmen that blames his tools"? Well that rarely applies in the VGI. Most of the time when something is laggy or buggy in a game, it is the fault of the game engines limits/bad coding.

I don't care how long they'll delay it, it'll still be rife with bugs.

But in all honesty, I like the bugs (unless they become a gargantuan problem, of course). They are interesting to observe, and more often than not, funny. Like when you sit down on a chair another person is sitting in and combine with the person, or stuffing a wood elf in a bookcase/door and watching him have a seizure. I personally think a game without bugs is more boring than a game with bugs. Any major bugs will be fixed soon enough, we don't have to worry about it. But to me, I see bugs as a funny sort of a challenge. Imagining the entire contents of a shelf to descend through the floor after you pick something up is a funny concept to think about IRL.

As they say, perfection is imperfection.

But Bethesda is pretty fast with patches. Like on Xbox Live they released an update patch that fixed a lot of bugs in the first couple of weeks.
