Would you rather have Skyrim on 11/11/11 or wait another 6 m

Post » Tue Aug 10, 2010 4:02 pm

I am really getting tired of games being released early, and we have to wait months for patches. By months I mean, game comes out,
buggy as hell, (like most Bethesda games) then for alot of people, they can't play the game, have to wait a month, or 3 months to be
able to play the game, then another 3 months for the 2nd or 3rd big patch to fix the game.

I rather wait that extra 6-12 months for them to make that patch, and just have it ready when the game finally comes out.

I really hate the buy now, wait a month or so, so the game can be playable and then wait some more for the next patch to fix issues.
For me, I would like for the game to be held back and fixed and finished properly. I wouldn't mind rather waiting 6 months or a year
for this to be done. Since we know this most likely will not happen, and it will be released 11/11/11 (who knows maybe it will be held
back like Morrowind and I think Oblivion was held back as well) this will most likely be my last game I buy on game release.

For me, TES games are the exception (I just love Bethesda and expect them to release a buggy game :D) so I will always buy their
games on Day One release day.

I'd rather they delay the game than patch it later. ;)

It's not GameByro. It's a new engine bro. There will most likely be less bugs.

I doubt it will have as many bugs. There will be some, for sure, but I'm sure the new engine will aid with this.

I probably won't buy it on release day, but it has nothing to do with bug fixes. I won't have time to play it anyway 'til I get through term papers and finals. And yet it will call to me desperately, so who knows.

Modding communities can fix bugs better than Bethesda, so I say bring it as early as possible.

Never doubt about the flaws in one game. It seems there are those that haven't learned yet... They be the 1st to complain and possibly demand a refund...

Hellooooo, Bethesda here, they could push it back until 2025 and it'd still be a bugfest, that's what they do. That's why for me, "Release day" for a Bethesda game means the release date of the Gold/GotY edition. Less frustration at their standard release practice of "Make money now, make it work later."

Elder Scrolls games are always good. They've worked on every game for a about 4 years each which is quite long, and they already started preparing for Skyrim right after Oblivion. Bethesda like Bioware has my full trust in producing quality games so I can't even think about this game turning out bad. I was sold before it was even announced.

Them announcing the game AND saying its coming out this fast only shows that they are confident in what they have created. They have been working on this to some degree since the end of Oblivion and honestly the game is pretty much done. Right now this last bit of time is for last min debugging and polishing as well as marketing so we can be all hyped. Im not worried about it being buggy at all.

Considering I never had half the problems others did with Morrowind or Oblivion, I think I'll stick to getting the game right away and wanting it not to get pushed back.

I'd rather wait, but I've learned no lesson and am getting it as soon as it is released.

They still have nearly a year, and they have a lot finished already. They shouldn't need to delay it.

Plenty of high budget games coming out at that time. I can live with it if they save the best for last. Not for a year though because if they have to spend a year just squishing out bugs... then they have big problems.

There is no guarantee that more time with the game will leave us with less bugs. Many bugs manifest out of thin air due to certain user systems or actions the developers never considered.

And believe me, I say that as a programmer.

Why the [censored] are we already complaining about bugs? It's 10 months til release date and we haven't even seen any gameplay so why the hell are you already branding this a "buggy" game? I can't think of any oblivion bugs that made the game unplayable (Maybe the vampire cure ps3 glitch....maybe) and the ones i did notice were just little things you don't look twice at you just keep playing so even if worst came to worst and it was the equivalent of oblivion i still wouldn't give a [censored]

I won't ask for any delaying, since I never really encountered many bugs in TES games. Just the occasional CTD; the falling through the floor thing in Daggerfall, but nothing major. Oh, and that time the words started melting and then shooting out of the screen, but I think that was a driver problem.

Couple of things missing --- 1st how do you know it will not be polished if released on 11-11-11 (for all we know they might have already been ready to release but are using the next 11 months to do bug testing prior to release!) and 2nd how do you know waiting another 6 months to a year would actually allow them to fix any of those bugs if they did exist and not just release it later with mostly the same bugs !

There is no way in hell I am waiting an extra minute. I am going to prepurchase and predownload(hopefully they will allow it) on Steam and play it at 12 am as soon as it comes out and I get the key to unlock it.

I found the responses very interesting. Looks like most people would rather wait longer to ensure all the bugs had been ironed out, then buy it on release day.

I've always found that just about any game, whether it's from this company, or any other) always seems to have a bug or two that got past the developers. I waited about 2 months after Silent Hunter IV was released, noting in the sub-sim forums that there were a number of issues that had to be address in that game, and the patch to fix it was huge. The reason the patch was so big is that someone said "rush this out the door". I'd much rather be patient, let it be ironed out, debugged, re-debugged, and then get the game, downloading any minor patches that may still be needed.

One thing the Elder Scrolls series has always had as an advantage was an incredibly active modding community. That will always be to any company's advantage, to be sure, but with this series, it's kept Morrowind alive long past it's expected surivival date, and has made Oblivion a much more interesting game to play as well.

Again, I'd be happy to wait, be patient, and enjoy a game that works just fine out of the box without the need for patches.

"Would you wait 6 months to a year so Skyrim can be refinde and stable?"
Other; if there happens to be many bugs, if any, Bethesda could always release patches for it like most games do.

"Have you finally lernt your lesson, and will wait 2 weeks or more for User reviews for Skyrim?"
No, I will buy it on release day. Bethesda has never dissapointed me, I especially love how they always give you what is promised in the hype unlike any other games I play.

"I have lernt my lesson, but It's a TES game, it has to be bought on Day One Release Day."
Yes, I want it on release day.

Edit: Actually, I have never experienced any bugs while playing Oblivion.

I'll have to admit, I chuckled.

As for waiting to purchase it: You know, I'll probably just buy it as soon as it comes out to get my own idea of how I like it.

However, if I don't, I'll most likely just ignore Bethesda's games, as they would obviously be going in a direction I disagree with and do not enjoy.

Basically, Skyrim will either repair my belief that they can make a TES game I can enjoy, or that they no longer make the kind of RPGs I enjoy.
