Would you rather have the Favorite System work like this?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 6:41 am

I think currently the Favorite System is a mess.

I like the IDEA of it, but I think it could be significantly improved.

It should be sorted and you could use the D-Pad or Arrow Keys to sort through categories of the items (by going left/right) like this maybe:

-Armor
-Weapons
-Potions/Food
-Magic
-Scrolls
-Powers
-Shouts

They would only show up as a category if you Favorited an item that would fit in that category (like how the inventory system does it)

It would also keep your last used category open for quick use.

-Edit: To clarify, You would still use Up to open favorites but it would open your last used Favorite Category, you could then proceed to use left/right to find the Favorite Category you want

or do you want it to be something different, if you want it a different way then explain

I dont get all the fuss about the favorite system. Unless you have a ridiculous amount of things favorited you can get to them in less that 3 seconds.

Plus, if youre playing with a keyboard you get 8 hotkeys instead of 2, which makes the favorites list kind of irrelevant.

I love it really. My favourite system is always organized clean.

For example: I always have 2-4 Destruction spells in it. As well one Healing Spell. Some shouts and potions. That's about it. The rest aren't essential to my survival in combat and such.

I have my favorite list varied so I can use something that I want without having to sort through the menu.

Right now just all the items are organized into one list by Alphabetical instead of Type which is annoying. Even having it by type would improve things but if it was like the way I described then it would be perfect, at least in my opinion.

This. I've got about 20 items favorited, and I can switch to what I need in any situation in under 5 seconds.

Aha. A sub-text for every category would be rather amazing indeed. Still, I am liking it so far but yours sounds like an add-on/enhancement rather then a fix. Still good!

Using the D-pad to go to different categories isn't all that different from the pre-existing menu system.

If you're going to make it all complicated like that than you might as well scrap favorites and just use the inventory.

I have no problem with the current system because I really don't have too many things favorited (like armor - I feel like armor swaps are rare enough so as not to necessitate a favorite slot). I guess if I were using multiple weapons and spells and poisons and potions on a very regular basis it could be helpful, but I'm not.

Yes and no.
I think there should be different favorite menus for weapons, spells and consumables. There are three directions going unused on that pad. Up for weapons favorites, left for magic favorites, right for consumable favorites.
The way they have it now is a waste.

im still on the fence about the favourite menu, parts i like, but other parts i find very annoying. i think it really comes down to how varied you are in combat with your character, if you are a one trick pony the you will be able to access a minimal favourites list. but myself, im a necro-warrior, i conjure alot, i use sword and board and sometimes archery. i heal my follower and myself if required and use some potions. not too mention i use different shouts (very situational). so all in all.... my list piles up. personaly id like "weapon sets" feature. Using "down, left and right" on the D-pad to change between 3 weapon sets. (shield and sword, archery, magic) would be FANTASTIC. with the "up" on the d-pad still keeping true to "favourites" as it is.

You should've voted for Other, lol

But I could see that working as well.

For the PC players, I would rather have 30 hotkeys. The 1 through 0 keys would be 10, holding shift when pressing them would give another 10, and holding control when pressing them would be another 10, giving 30 in total.

They could do the same thing for the xbox, but it would be 8*3. Of course, Skyrim uses more actual buttons than any previous game does, so every button on the controller is used for something and thus having a RB+D-Pad and LB+D-Pad hot key system wouldn't really work out.

This is an excellent idea. I like things nice and organized most of the time, so I think separating out favorites into categories would make things even easier to locate. The current one works alright, but your idea sounds better. The alphabetized favorites makes things feel somewhat jumbled, and it'd be easier if at least spells, weapons and shouts were in separate areas of the list. And this is with playing my Paladin, who has only Restoration magic, whereas my Spellsword will likely have far more magic and numerous weapons to manage mid-combat.

I cannot imagine WHAT I would do with 30 hotkeys. This isn't WoW or some other MMO with 100s of skills to micromanage.

I guess the more options the better.

It could be togglable in the settings. But obviously this one would be PC specific.
