Would you still buy TES:V Skyrim (for PC) if there were no m

Post » Tue Aug 25, 2009 10:55 pm

I'd buy it and resentfully play it for five or ten hours before shelving it forever. I'd cry. A lot. I'd be slinging snot everywhere. It wouldn't be a pretty scene.

Please don't make me cry, Bethesda :(

Definitely. I played Morrowind and Oblivion for a long time with no mods, they just add to the already great game.

Of course I would. When I first played an Elder Scrolls game, I went months without knowing mods existed. I would be disappointed in Bethesda, but I would certainly still play the game.

Couldn't vote.

It would depend on a several factors:

1) Just how buggy it was and what the patches fixed compared to what an unofficail patch could do.
2) If the reviews seemed good. Mods were the only way I could stand Oblivion
3) How much time I had to play the game. I don't really mod, but it's nice to make my own house.

Yes. I never use mods. It's not the Elder Scrolls if you do.

And you're not real fans! You're imitation players! : P

Not only would I never buy the game if there were no mods, I'd likely go on a rampage shooting small puppies and committing other such atrocities as an act of revenge. So Bethesda... Seriously... Think of the puppies, here. Don't do something foolish like leaving out the ability to mod this game.

It depends if its run through Steam again like it was with New Vegas then no I'll buy it for the 360. Right now I would probably get it for PC even if you couldn't mod the game but I'm not completely 100% sure on that yet.

I used to think "Oooh, I'm pure because I don't download mods and don't use mods. That isn't how Bethesda wanted the game to be played, blah blah blah blah blah"

But I realized after a while that that was stupid and got into them. Even Bethesda likes mods, so obviously they'd be disappointing themselves as much as they're disappointing us if they don't have them.

I'd still buy it and get all of the fun I could out of it, roleplaying is done in your mind, the mods are props... but they're fun and shiny props that I love to have nonetheless.

I've always preferred consoles so I'm getting it for my 360. I bought Oblivion for 360 and PC and I just can't seem to play it on the PC when I could be playing it on the 360. On the PC, I never feel like the game is right and I have to keep adding mods to it.

I think I'd get the console version only - I guess we have to wait and see if they include a CS with the release

I'd probably still buy it... but likely only because even the vanilla game would have too much content to get through in a rental period. Otherwise it might very well be a rental.

My problem with that statement has always been, then why would they give us the CS?

Glad you saw the light and can enjoy some of the spectacular mods out there. (Blood and Mud, Frostcrag Reborn for Oblivion as a couple awesome examples. They blew my mind, seeing they are a creation of love not profit.)

P.S.

Oh oh, can't forget Akatosh Mount and DarNified UI!

Exactly, I think it was just an excuse I made for myself to not get into modding for whatever reason I could have been avoiding it.

Mostly because as soon as I looked up mods I saw people's heads being cut off and extremely unnecessary (imho) body replacers so I was like: "... I'll pass."

Maybe but I'd wait and see what others make of it before I parted with any money, there were a lot things I did not like about Oblivion and without mods I doubt I would have finished it. Even if it does come with a CS I'll still wait for the first patch, Bethesda aren't known for their quality control.

I voted I would buy it but be annoyed.
I just love our modders, and I love Bethesda games.
Separating them is like eating peanut butter on a slice of bread and finding out there is no jelly.

The second option, though provided they still made a good game, Bethesda would probably still be my favorite developer.

There's also no guarantee that I'd cry.

Ehh, I just voted yes because I honestly wouldn't mind... but then again, I've never bought any Elder Scrolls game for the PC. Mods have never really appealed to me. But if my Xbox got RROD and I was stuck only with the PC, and there happened to be no mods, then yes, I would definitely still buy it, and Bethesda would still be one of my favorites. Their games alone are good enough for me.

Hell to the yes, wouldn't buy it for anything but PC regardless.

I personally hate those little hand-cramping controllers consoles use.

I definitely would not buy it if it didn't support mods. The mods are what made Morrowind and Oblivion so great, I've played them for so much longer than any other games I've owned because of mods.

:| Well that's just nonsense. You can't make a poll have every answer,

That's why you don't make polls but leave the question open without muddling the issue with such answers. It will cast a variety of opinions on one pile as if they were the same, which is the opposite of what a poll is meant to do. For example, people who never installed any mods and people who like the mods but wouldn't mind very much if no modding tools were released are now pitted in the first option. Some people from the latter category will choose the second answer though, even if the sentiment is not reflected accurately, dividing this group over two answers and making the poll a less competent reflection of the opinions out there.

This one will get the point across to Bethesda that it would be suicide, just incase they were considering it. I doubt that, and I'm sure everyone else does, but that's notwithstanding?

Bethesda isn't stupid - they know the place mods have. This is one of those things that you don't need to poll, especially since Bethesda has the ability to read and comprehend beyond Sesame Street colored bars.

And Stupid answers? In what way?

The answers contain motivations and emotions, which is a big no-no if you want to quantify an objective result-question like this.

This isn't directed at you specifically though, don't get me wrong. I mean, yours is not the worst by far. Look at what polls are being made. "Would you want levitation back?" "Should there be six?" "Which rating should Skyrim be?"
These are such trivial things - polls like that are merely added to give it a thin veneer of importance. Want an example of a good poll? http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1148988-what-drm-would-you-prefer-to-see-in-the-pc-retail-version/. That subject actually matters to developers - it matters to them as that is a difficult choice that significantly impacts sales. The answers available are objective - the statistics are useful.

Even if Bethesda didn't release a Construction Set, people would still be able to make mods. It would just be much more difficult.

Fair points :)

But considering this topic is just for fun and I'm aware that Bethesda aren't stupid, and I'm definitely not planning on using these statistics in a report or anything, I think it's cool :)

The poll also helps (even if it's not particularly valid for any real purpose) because 177 people have voted, and there aren't 177 posts here.
