Would You?........

Post » Sun May 18, 2014 5:35 am

Genetically modify yourself to.....

Have Night Vision at the cost of being a little fuzzy?

Have enhanced Strength at the cost of having longer arms and a larger forehead?

Gain the ability to regenerate lost limbs at the cost of being slightly green and scaly and losing all your hair?

Be able to breath under water but no longer be able to breath normal air, and have webbed hands and feet?

Have a melodic voice able to mimic many sounds exactly, at the cost of having feathers instead of hair?

Extend your life for the cost of having no hair, shorter limbs, and having a fused back?

Transplant your brain repeatedly to gain immortality....

If it cost you a family member?

If it was to another gender?

Into another species?

Download your consciousness to.....

A computer?

A Robot?

Permanent or Temporary?

Night vision - Yes
Strength - No
Limb regeneration - Maybe, yes
Gills - Depends; does Atlantis exist?
Melodic voice - How does having feathers instead of hair work? Is it only exclusive to head hair?
Extended life - No

Transplant life force to family member - No
Transplant life force to an alternate gender - Most likely, yes
Transplant life force into another species - Maybe; it depends on the species

Upload conscious into a computer - No
Upload conscious into a robot - Yes

The changes would either be permanent or temporary depending on the situation and my preferences.

I think this calls for an extremely complex, confusing, and problematic poll.

not at the cost of a family member but can I choose what species or which woman I take over? I would be a problem with such power and would love to experience life as a tiger or an eagle just once...obviously it would take some magic as my brain is too large to be crammed into an eagles skull :P

As for the strength 1, how strong are we talking? If it's Hulk smash level of strength then I would gladly have a big head and orangutan arms

Can I have the ability to fly at the cost of having abnormally-large buttocks? Wait, never mind. I just bought some new jeans. Maybe later.

Night Vision: Maybe... do I still have Normal Vision as well? I looked through a Night Vision Monocular around noon one day recently.. was not pleasant...

Strength: Nah, strength doesn't come in very handy in my line of work...

Regenerate Lost Limbs: nah

Gills: Naah

Melodic Voice: Naah, I like my voice as is..

Extend Life: Naah, sometimes I feel life is to long as is..

Transplant life at cost of a Family Member: No Way

Transplant life to Another Gender: as long as my wife was okay with it, I don't see why not, all a Gender is is what reproductive Organs you have, it does not define ones Person..

Transplant life to another Species: Meh..

Convert Consciousness to a Computer: Probably, take the knowledge and creativity of a human being, with the quick processing power of a Super Computer, and I would be able to take over entire nations defense systems via simple access to the internet... I would be like the President from Fallout3

Convert Consciousness to a Robot: Again, depends... is it say, a "Lost in Space" type robot, or more of a "Ghost in the Shell" type robot..?

None of the choices make sense, why would those side affects be present?

The only one I'd want is to extend my life, but if I wanted to do that, I would just be put in a life support system like Mr. House's.

Yes to most likely all of them.

Upload conciousness into a computer. Yes

Upload conciousness into a robot. Yes

Some questions break others. So I wouldn`t have feathers growing, since I can't have hair.

I guess I'd consider the repeated brain transplants thing - don't mind swapping genders every generation or so. Besides, if it got boring I could always give up...

Everything else no.

Night vision - No. I value my clarity of vision. If I could see in even more color and detail, that would be fantastic.
Strength - No. I would look ridiculous.
Regeneration - No. I don't foresee myself losing any limbs in the future, and as interesting as it sounds to be scaly, I like my human skin and hair just fine.
Underwater breathing - No. That would be highly inconvenient, since the rest of human society obviously lives above water. Also very little technology works under water as is.
Melodic voice - No. There's no practical value associated with being mimic any sound. In the off chance it would be useful to do so, there are plenty of machines that can do it already.
Extended life - No. A life like that is hardly a life to speak of.

Brain transplants:

  • If it cost me a family member - No. I'm not that vile a person.
  • If it was to another gender - I guess so, I don't have anything in particular against having to be a woman occasionally.
  • Into another species - That depends hugely on what species I'd be transforming into. Probably no.
  • In general - by what process exactly would "transplanting my brain repeatedly" give me immortality???

Downloading conciousness:

  • Computer - Only if it were going to be stored there. I wouldn't want it activated and have some crazy Asimov-esque situation on my hands.
  • A Robot - Again, Asimov.
  • Permanent or Temporary - Likely temporary.

Gender is a lot more than one's reproductive organs. Being stuck in the wrong body can cause people an intolerable amount of distress.

I think the phrase, "be careful what you wish for" fits perfectly well for this topic.

I can't sing.

I do love to sing as it makes me happy, though other people don't call it singing so much as they call it 'please stop.'

Feathers are pretty.

So, yes, I'd trade my hair for feathers if it meant I could sing prettily.

Night vision - No

Strength - No
Limb regeneration - No

Gills - No

Melodic voice - No
Extended life - No

(The first couple of examples were really weird, I don't want to look abnormal.)

Transplant life force to family member - No.
Transplant life force to an alternate gender - If the other person is dead and no longer needs the body then yes.

Transplant life force into another species - If it's a humanoid extra terrestrial, yes. If it's an animal, hell no.

Upload conscious into a computer - No
Upload conscious into a robot - No

No, but only for one reason: crazy fundamentalists would probably try killing me.

(Note: this is also the same reason I'd avoid being among the first cyborgs)

Vigilantes running around with homemade EMP devices targeting random 'suspects'. Because, you know, it is perfectly alright to use high-tech if it means stopping high-tech..

They're all sort of horrible, so no. I have no intentions of becoming some shunned upon chimera abomination. Transplanting brain to another gender is interesting though, since I don't feel any strong gender identity, so that's the most likely choice I'd make considering this current skeleton is so troublesome...
