Would you want to live in the Pre-War era?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 4:17 pm

I'm the kind of player who loves to decorate his home in the Pre-War theme and go around wearing Pre-War clothes, but I've always wondered what exactly it would be like to live in the Pre-War America before the bombs fell? On one hand you'd get servant robots, nuclear powered cars, really old clothes that never go out of style, and lots of friendly conservative neighbors. On the other hand, you'd be afraid of the Chinese commies coming to your country to kill you, the possibility of a nuclear war being right around the corner, and living under a government that abuses its power and authority.

So what are your opinions? Would you want to live in the Pre-War era? Discuss!

I don't think so. Too many policies that I couldn't agree with.

And I wouldn't want to live in an era where internment camps for citizens of Chinese descent are considered acceptable.

Well, I don't think the pre-war society wanted me. I would probably have annoyed my 'friendly conservative neighbors', like I allready do in RL

Considering it was followed by a nuclear war, probably not.

Yeah I agree, that was pretty sickening.

But me personally, I wouldn't mind living in tha era because I'd have my own servant robot and I'd get to wear clothes from the 1950's without being made fun of. :P

I would absolutely love to. To live in the world of Tranquility Lane. Plus all the interpretations of the 50's I've seen in various films make it seem like a really desirable place to be. Im all in for it.
It will be like the real world 50's except modernized. Totally awesome.

Yeah, living in a world like Tranquility Lane would be cool! Though I could do without the black and white, or the evil little byotch torturing people for fun then reseting their memories as if nothing happened...

Hell, no.

The fact that I can post this very post, have it transmitted in a split second? That's just one of oh so many reasons why, and not even one of the biggies. Not even close.

Those who haven't studied (or remembered) twentieth century history (let alone that of other eras), sometimes fail to realise just how lucky we - those of us in the first world - are nowadays.

If I could live in the Fallout worlds before the Great War, I'd really love it. I understand the technologies of today I'd sacrifice, and to be honest, I'd be glad to give it up to live my envisionment of 'The Perfect Life'

Ok, so other then the fact that chinese civilians were kept in detention camps, nuclear war happened, and there was no modern music. Do some people at least agree that the Pre-War era had some cool things about it? I mean you can't say it was all bad, they had some amazing technology and seemed to live comfortably. I guess the materialistic culture side is what I'm refering to...

Tranquility Lane is a world that is supposedly so bad that you get good karma for slaughtering the inhabitants en masse. So forget about that!

If there were a way to avert the war of 2077, living in pre-War America might be pretty cool. Not ideal, of course, I don't like the internment thing either. But better than some other possibilities, like the time of the Aztecs (want to be a human sacrifice?), the Dark Ages (want to be a serf?), the Great Depression (which laid the foundations for the end of America as it was intended), or the 1970's (polyester city).

You had me at Moonbeam Drive In and Dot's Diner. I'm in. My rider states I must have a Poodle Skirt, saddle shoes and a scarf to tie around my ponytail included in my Pre War wardrobe. I have a Sock Hop to attend this weekend.

We need to find a way to stop the war from happening though. That would totally wreck my day.

There's little to none racism, sixism or homophobia in the Fallout Universe. In the real world 50's yes, but not Fallout. Besides, Pre-War days can mean anything from 100,000,000 BC to 2077 AD.

Agreed.

I would like to live in the 17/1800s where there wasn't a threat of nukes. =)

From the descriptions it sounds worse than the Wasteland, so no thanks. I'm quite fine with my current era and universe.

ha! wheres your proof of that?
there was no more/less then now. correction, possibly more 'racism' now-a-days.
blanket statements you shouldn't be making and democratic propoganda you shouldn't be listing too.
