Would you be willing to wait?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:46 am

I can feel the flames already.

I already know there is a 0 percent chance this will happen but I'm curious to see what others think about this.

Would you be willing for Skyrim to be pushed back to 12/12/12 IF it meant full DirectX 11 support on every level for PC users including Tessellation in the game?
Over a years worth of polishing the game and bug testing.
Twice as many new custom armor/weapon sets and as many choices for character customization as well.
PC Mods (of some scale) definitely being downloadable for Consoles.
The ability to capture/ride dragons.
Another year for Bethesda to develop a living economy within the game.
Whatever else you come up with.

If you answered No which I'm quite sure 99.99% of you did before even posting this thread then enough said.

BUT.....

If you happened to answer Maybe or Absolutely then please post what you would want to see or would expect to see from such an atrocity happening.

The more relevant question is "Would Bethesda be willing to wait?"

To answer the actual poll, no I wouldn't wait. The game will never be perfect no matter how much time they spend on it, and I need my new TES fix now. And releasing it on time would give them an extra year to work on the next one.

Problem is, even in a Fantasyland where they announced such a delay on such conditions, reality would kick in and it would turn into another year of shoehorning in new features, another year of Todd letting his OCD "Must remove things" tendency run rampant, another year of "Wait, weren't we supposed to be adding something in particular?"

I expect it'd result in the same game being released, with more features at about the same polish and refinement level, and then after the 12-12-12 release date we'd get a press release: "Whoops, sorry, we got so caught up in having the time to add more quests and story we forgot all about DX11. Maybe next time."

No . . . oh so no . . . no so . . . no.

I'm particularly not interested in waiting for tessellation - at all.

Sometimes, it's not the time you spend on the game that desides what your options are. Besides, why should the game postpone its release? Why not just release on time and then patch the game later to allow for those new things? you're weird...

Absolutely not. It looks perfectly fine as it is, I don't need a bunch of minor graphical enhancements, especially not to the point of waiting another solid year. It supports DX11 and that's more than enough for me. Modders can make better use of it. It is literally the least of my concerns.

I'm on the 360, so no, I could care less about your DirectX 11 and Tessellations. scratch that, custom armor, weapons, AND console mods? Hell yes I'd wait another year.

Absolutely not. Pretty ridiculous to wait more than an extra year. Thankfully this isn't going to happen.

Its impossible, even as a hypothetical situation, because things that dont get added have more to do with design choices than time. Part of artistic creation is that there is a limit. A painting cannot take an indefinite amount of space; music cannot last forever; an endless movie would be horrible beyond imagination. So, having an amount of time longer than you need is always bad.

I'd definitely wait if it meant more depth, more factions, more quests, more variety in weapons and armor, more spells, more conversation trees, etc. I don't really care for time and effort spent on graphics or console mods or dragon mounts. Plus I haven't even gotten around to playing Oblivion yet, so I have something to do in the meantime.

It's a TES game, and I can't make them release it sooner, later, or otherwise. But, when it's released, I will buy it. So, I'll wait till it comes out and I'll buy it. I'm ready now for it. I don't think I'd be happy "trading" a year of development time for the things that you suggested, but of course I'd be willing to wait. I'm not going to refuse to buy the game if they decided to wait on the release date.

Yeah - this, pretty much. I would have no problem with waiting if waiting meant a better game. But I don't think it would. It would just mean more time to stuff in more gimmicks and dream up new justifications for eliminating more core game mechanics that conflict with those new gimmicks.

Yes I would wait, because you need to make the video game right with less bugs to it! If you bring the game out to fast problems will be there! Me I would try to make the game "Excellent Quality" so when the game comes out there will be less complaints, but I'm a gamer and play, for DX11 thumbs up!

Question Tho will this video game support "PHYSIC CARDS"!

If the game needed the wait then sure, however no point in having too much stuff =P

Nope. That kind of thinking is what got Duke Nukem Forever in trouble the first time around; just another year to add in these essentials, just another year after that to add more essentials, etc, etc.
5 years of storyboard, planning, and development is a long time as it is, and there's just a point at which you say, 'enough content and capability is enough.'

This post is spot on. Eventually you have to say "enough is enough" and wrap up development. Otherwise you'll just be another joke in the industry like Duke Nukem Forever.

There is not very much that they could accomplish in one month by pushing the date back.

I'd much rather play a version of Skyrim on 11.11.11 that is riddled with glitches, bugs and balance problems than to wait even one more day.

I doubt it would take an entire year for BGS to add in tessellation and DX11 shaders for Skyrim. Are they going to do it? No. They have to worry about DLC and expansions. They have to worry about the development of Fallout 4, which will likely have full DX11 support (depending on when it releases and if the new generation is out or not).
