WOW just WOW Radscorpin falls through the world!

Post » Sat Jun 19, 2010 8:15 am

So I am at this abandon gas station killing Radscorpins when I notice one of them is part way in the ground and not moving. So I shoot its tail and it falls right through the world (Kill cam chased it under the world)! I love to role play but that mob falling through the world totally killed the immersion for me. So I decided to take a break and visit the forums for a few and try again.

P.S. if you ask me that's a major bug that should have been caught in beta. I realize that the game is a huge open world (even though its not as big as FO3) but come on! People pay good money for your product and expect to have a working product at release. Not some hack job game that your going to be patching for the next 6 months!

If your talking about the gas station near a bunch of mountains and a certain "camp" then yea it happens. I see it as free kills and xp at lower levels. If that killed your joy then damn... let me buy your game for $10 so i can flip it :)

I am not going to sell my game but it killed the role play mindset. I will get back into the game again, I just need to read the forums for a few and physic myself up again.

If you wanna keep yourself in the roleplay mindset just think of it as your bullet ripped through the atmosphere at a perfect angle and the perfect time and shattered the air between you and the target and blew the scorpio into a parallel universe. SciFi baby... endless possibilities

I'm playing a scavenger who is aimlessly wandering through the wastes trying to figure out what happen to him. Plus I am playing hard core mode so I have to eat, sleep and drink. I am aiming to be the richest person in the wasteland. :fallout:

Welcome to Bethesda's game engine... things have been dying and falling through the world (or ending up inside models like rocks) since the original release of Oblivion back in 2006.

Generally, it's caused by a bad navigation mesh that allows the actor to clip through the terrain. Combine that with the physics model that flings the corpse around when it dies and you end up with some or all of the actor clipping through scenery and if the center point falls below the surface, down down down goes the actor. Or you'll get situations where part of the actor skeleton gets accelerated to ridiculous speed, giving you the crazy ball of deadly yarn that spins around and gyrates madly, bouncing off walls until it flings off into the far distance.

It won't get better until Bethesda rewrites major portions of the engine or switches to an entirely new engine.

If it's any consolation, you found the radscorpian burrowing. When you shot it's tail, it died, and the descent through the "world" was actually a brief cutscene of its journey to hell!

Just trying to think something up to put you at ease :)

I've had four of the Great Khans at their base fall though the ground or though the trailer they were sleeping in after i killed them, it followed what may have been another bug where dispite being villified by them they were'nt hostile and did'nt become alerted if their buddy dropped dead next to them as long as noone saw me kill them.

So what i did was go around killing them while they where asleep and two unnamed female Khans in a tent fell though the ground while the male in the same tent did'nt and then the two named npcs in the trailers fell though the floor of the trailer after being killed but they did'nt go though the ground.

New Vegas is riddled with collision issues, and the more you play the more you'll experience it. Personally, I've already run into dozens of enemies partially below ground, which is far, far more than I saw in Fallout 3. Not saying it didn't happen in Fallout 3, because it did, but it's a much more serious issue in New Vegas.

I get quite amused when I see Havok acting up like that. Then again I'm used to Havok's little oddities, even come to enjoy watching them once in a while. I've put over 300 hours into abusing it in Garry's Mod. The stuff that happens in Fallout 3/NV is child's play compared to some of the physics foobars that Gmod can conjure.

Just be glad your radscorpion isn't a 35 foot diameter black hole that kills anything they touch and launches the ragdolls clean across the map.
