First theres 2 bethesdas... publisher and developer.

also brink is fun and is a good game. the problem is there is alot of issues with it (specially with 360) that need to be patched in.

problems:
-textures dont always load
-no lobbies
-lag
-terrible AI

if you can get past that, the gameplay is actually alot of fun. but to be honest i sold my copy cause i couldnt deal with these issues.

my friend was gonna buy it when he came over so we we're looking to buy it but then we bought prototype instead.

+1 for trusting the word of a complete stranger on a game you haven't played. I wonder why they call it Gamestop

I just got the gamer today. Gameplay is good but.

This is not a good single player game.

I have trouble finding a full room of people for Co-Op

No lobbies.

I encountered a glitch where if I press X (I play PS3, bottom button) I continuously get sent back to the previous menu.

I beat the resistance storyline in 1 day. About 3 or 4 hours. And thats losing 3 matches.

Player medics tend to ignore you

But

Smart is surprisingly fluid

I like how the weapons feel

Very teamwork oriented

Lotsa cool stuff to do to your guns

Interesting challenges

Pretty balanced classes

Good graphics

Overall fun

A lot of abilities

Only thing I really have a problem with is that I beat the resistance storyline in one day.

It seems to have become a niche game... unfortunately a niche isn't big enough to fit the majority of people. I don't get the complaining about lag, maybe it's just PS3 but I have few problems at all. The game doesn't offer as much as some on the maps/story front, but relies on playing the same thing multiple times for it's replay value, just with different weapons/class/skills/body-type/etc each time.

Asides from the very few or small bugs I've encountered, and the annoyance of not having straightforward lobbies, there isn't anything horribly wrong with the game itself - most rants I see about why the game is "bad" are opinionated rather than factual.

Aren't most rants on why a game is bad opinion rather than fact?

If you don't have Live (I do believe you're on Xbox unless I read into your post incorrectly) don't get this game. Brink is a title constructed from the ground up with multiplayer in mind. If you love competitive FPS, then by all means give it a try. But a single player experience? No, not there.

As for the Gamestop employees, I had a very similar experience where I overheard one outright telling a customer not to pick up Brink. I recognize the flaws with the game, but I find this enormous hatred people seem to focus on the title completely insane. CoD (I'm sorry I know it's done to death but for the sake of comparison) releases the same game every year since 2007 and all the cashiers throw it in your face and screech about how brilliant it is. A new ip makes some admittedly rocky steps towards a fantastically fresh perspective on FPS and "No this is garbage don't even rent it!"

the fact is,is that there aren't alot of games that come out flawlessly (except CoD,but its the same game each time so...duh) ,but I say hang in their and wait cause brink just needs a couple more patches and it will be flawless, heck I even think when they have the clan system up there will propably be a lobby system and yes Brink has its problem, but its the first of its kind and a major stepping stone in FPS history cause who knows maybe even games like CoD and BF will borrow (steal) the SMART system in future titles (but I bloody hope not)

Some people do brush up on the issues like the lack of a lobby, the unreliable matchmaking, the texture pop-ins etc. These are fact-based because they are actually true no matter what your view on the game is. Saying "the game is bad because guns take too long to kill people" or "the game is bad because there isn't enough parkour" are more opinionated kinds of statements.

It IS a very "niche" game. And people who don't fit the particular niche Brink fills mostly hate it.

I personally love it though. I can honestly say it's better to rent it first though, see what you think.

-yes they do, it's just pop-in
-true
-also true
-only on less than hard difficulty which is a GOOD thing for lower difficulties.

Agreed. each to their own i say. I play games that willl interest me from the start, and avoid ones that I know i will not enjoy. If i don't like them after purchase, oh well, trade it in for something else and move on, knowing it's not for me.

BRINK kind of does have a steep learning curve, (at least i found, but I'm kind of alright with shooters, not brilliant) at the beginning. But it was it's teamwork/objective based play that i was attracted to.

In reply to OP:
I don't really think that you can really judge a game by someone just saying, oh it's c**p, or oh it's brilliant, as that is only their base opinion. Rent, try, go online, have fun and make up your own mind.

The game just doesn't have much in the way of content and I'm afraid to say it's gonna take at least 5 DLC
offers to drastically change that. The devs at SD know nothing about designing games for today's console
players and it shows.

The maps and overall game play replicate an older style of gaming that is a lot more simplistic than most of
today's shooters. This would explain the small, but devout fanbase of PC players for this game that grew
up playing similar styles of games. Spawn, take one of the two or three paths towards the objective where
8 enemies are waiting in one room for you, shoot, die, respawn, repeat. Some of the abilities add a nice
change of pace from this repetitive game play, but the poorly designed maps with their bottle-neck layouts
encourage spawn camping and completely ruin the gaming experience for many players.

SD tried to complete a new type of game play with Brink with new ideas in an attempt to create a ground-
breaking title that just might eventually change the way developers look at FPS gaming, but in reality they
created a game that was such a complete opposite from their competition that it has driven more people
away than it has managed to hold on to.

Shame you're not connected.
Forgot that you mentioned that. Oops.
No idea about the disk based fixes.
Best people to ask is SD support i guess.

That's also the problem with developers. The majority of them just imagine that we have some kind of connection, not thinking that there are users out there who don't. :(
