Wow lost everything

Both my autosave and the save I made won't load. My game freezes everytime in the middle of the load it. Lost all my gameplay, I was only level 8 but still definitely don't feel like starting over. And it isn't my xbox, I have a new generation one that isn't even 2 months old yet. This makes me really angry...has anyone else had this problem? I know of someone personally who had the same problem.

You're not alone. No word on when or if this will be fixed. The only official response on the issue (to PC and console players alike) is to "load an earlier save." This is not related to the steamcloud issues fixed earlier.

Since it's a free roaming game, never rely on the autosave alone and have more than one hard save. It's in the very nature of the free roaming genre that saves may get corrupted. Unfortunately for you there might not be anything you can do to recover it. :(

For an example if you only have the autosave and the game crashes when autosaving that autosave is toast.

Edit: This is semi-common in Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas and Oblivion. I think Morrowind has some problems with this too

Ever since the good old days of Morrowind, not to mention tons of other games, the rule of thumb has been 'save often' and do not rely on quick saves or autosaves.

Yeah I had my autosave and 1 hard save and my game freezes during both when I try to load them. I'll make sure to have more saves next time through. Also, I was technically level 7 during that game, but when I looked at my xp, I had 6,400 and the xp needed for level 8 was 4,000 or so. Why didn't it level me up when I had well over 4,000 xp points?

For every Morrowind/Oblivion/FO3 and now FONV character I usually cycle between 100 or so saves. But then I am on PC so am not sure how it works for consoles.

Well if it was something as the game crashing during an autosave then this wouldn't be an issue. The backup autosave would be fine in that case (game creates automatic backups of auto and quick-saves on PC.)

Unfortunately the malformed data that causes a save to be unloadable is introduced in such a way that it is not noticeable until a user attempts to load a save made afterwards. For example- a glitch might occur which sets a global variable to an invalid value (a value defined as an integer set to a floating point value for example) or perhaps creates an invalid inventory item. This malformed data will not crash the game while you are playing. It is only upon loading a game where this malformed data was saved that the crash will occur. Sadly this means that not only will your autosave and backup autosave be corrupt but also EVERY manual save made containing the malformed data. This means that if the game generated the offending invalid data early in a long play session that you might not realize that all your manual saves during that... let's say 6 hours... are completely useless until you attempt to load one.

IIRC that's the amount you need to level up. I.e. 6 400 plus 4 000

Well charybdisjim, all I can say is I am glad I have never come across that issue in all the years I have been playing MW/Ob/FO3, that would really svck.

Wht we NEED is someone to port http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=other.detail&id=52 to these later generation games. That little program right there saved me hours of grief since it could edit save games.

No on my pipboy, I looked under my xp to the next level and it said 6,400/4,000...meaning 6,400 out of 4,000. I was well over the amount. Even the yellow bar that shows up when you gain xp was at the end and wouldn't move any further. It was right at the level 8 all the way at the end for the longest time.

I agree- if it was as simple as some clearly malformed piece of data you could probably use an editor to delete it. Unfortunately, nobody is working on a PC save editor because the command console is too easy of a cheating tool.
