Writing a Movie Script for Skyrim. Bethesda please read.

Post » Fri Apr 17, 2015 12:29 pm

So I recently watchd the Live Action trailer for Skyrim and it really intrigued me. From watching this I have decided to write up a script for a movie based on Skyrim. Though, with help/assistance from a Bethesda Studios employee, I could better write the script. I will write it despite no help. However I will only allow Bethesda to see it (and friends of course) as it is about their game. If someone can leave me a contact email or contact me through my log in email then that would be great.

As I said, I will only allow Bethesda the ability to produce it.

I am unable to post the link to the video however it is on the bethesda softworks youtube channel. Video is called Skyrim Live Action Trailer

Considering the hit/miss ratio of video game movies, I'd expect Bethesda to give this a wide berth, especially as they aren't a move production company, so would still need to get one on board.

And they are really going to base a movie on a script written by some random forum poster about a game THEY made? Presumably, you'd want credit for using their ideas?

The developers rarely read these forums and they never accept material from the community.

If you actually got in contact with someone at Bethesda/Zenimax their response would be roughly as follows "We appreciate your enthusiasm and recommend you post your idea on our official forums at www.gamesas.com"

Yeup unfortunately thats the case, once devs have people's money they usually don't stick around a few years later to see their ideas or anything its just on to the next product.

That and also a Skyrim movie would be awesome if done right, but its an enourmous gamble that to be honeset Bethesda has no reason in taking, they are making plenty of money from ESO and will when it releases on console, and they don't have to risk another huge budget production to see if they turn a profit.

If they used a few million in a Skyrim movie and it flopped, then they would be SOL, I do like the idea of the Skyrim movie so don't feel like I am trying to shoot the idea out of the sky, but unfortunately like other good ideas on here it probably will never even be considered let alone happen.

On the main forum directory you can scroll down and see a "Contact Us" link at the bottom right.

But the only response you're likely to get is what Didact suggests...

I suggest you write the script because you want to write it, not because you want Bethesda to be interested in it.

Might get more interest if you got somebody named Spielberg or something like that to contact them for you... Just sayin', eh?

Or Tarantino. A Skyrim movie created by Q & U that focused mostly on the dark brotherhood and betrayal, now that's something I would pay good money to see.

This isn't a particular knock on the OP although I echo the sentiments that he/she should only do this for their own enjoyment rather than the hope that something will come of it, but trying to make a movie out of an open-world game based on choices is a huge risk for anyone. You'd have to pick which of the many (often contradictory) options to canonize for the plot of the movie and quite likely anger or at least disappoint a considerable portion of the fanbase in doing so. The other option would be to cut pretty much everything except the main quest, but the Dragonborn would lose a good deal of character if you went that route. Skyrim will always be one of my favorite games, but I really don't see it working as a movie.

I bet Uwe Boll would have a stab at directing/producing it (snigger, chortle, guffaw guffaw). He did wonders converting Bloodrayne to the big screen (sorry can't contain it any longer, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ).

OP: write your script and self-publish. In the age of the internet, the last thing you want is an old-school film-studio messing with your project. You may not get famous or rich self-publishing, but your creation will find a following.

Just don't promote it as anything other than fan fiction, and don't do anything that makes it look like you're trying to profit from it, or you'll run afoul of Intellectual Property laws. :)

Honestly, it's just as easy to create your own fantasy world. I've done it a couple of times for D&D play over the years. Nobody has a copyright on medieval warfare, technology, weaponry, magic, or mythical creatures and beings. The hardest part is governments and related politics that provide a realistic setting of peace or war. One you create a solid world, writing the stories becomes much simpler.

Yeah that's right. If any one did manage to make a good screen play and some producer was mad enough to just go ahead and make it, the Devs would soon be knocking on their door saying excuse me, but this is ours......we'll see you in court !
