What do you guys think of the perks system replacing birth signs, I myself quite like the perks idea but also think it it could effect the lore of the game something thats been part of Elder scrolls in the past 2 games and maybe more. (I don't know if they were in Daggerfall and arena as I never played them)
What do you think? Do you think they should have kept the picking of star signs at the start of the game aswell as perk? OR do you think the Skyrim style star signs is better?

My favorite part of this is that the skills you choose actually effect the in game sky.

I mean that is just phenomenal. Nobody will be looking at the same sky at night.

Yeah i originally was going to make this forum challenging people to draw some crude picture in the sky but decided that would be unrealistic seeing as i doubt you'll be able to re-spec perks.

perks are neat and all, but I see no reason at all to cut birthsigns. Overhaul sure, but not cut.

I think this new perk system will work well because it allows more differentiation within skills.

I wonder though, are all perks in Skyrim directly tied to skills? Or are some perks more general, such as perks handling encumbrance? Because if encumbrance is a perk, you can't tie that to a skill. The same goes with magicka regeneration rate that used to be governed by willpower. But since attributes are almost absolutely out, I wonder how these things will be handled.

I find that bizarre. How do they explain that? Are you hallucinating the new stars, or do the stars revolve around you? Either way, it's bullcrap - there's no kind way to describe it.

Actually, I believe Gstaff told us that it wasn't actually the night sky in the game changing, but the "night sky" in the skills menu.

This. It's only on the interface in the skills menu. It doesn't effect the actual sky in the game world.

Perks are replacing birthsigns? Since when? That makes no sense. The star signs have played major roles in the past games, they are a deeply routed part of the lore. How is it that every time you get a new perk the sky will change? I think there was some miscommunication somewhere.

Maybe some perks could be attached to magica, fatigue and health.

Only changes in the UI in the skills menu not the actual in game sky.

Birth signs boring, limited customization. New system looks far more interesting, perhaps there are sub-constellations in the main three and as you branch into perks they light up? I highly doubt they will just completely remove birth signs so they wont be in the game period, just changing how they function. New system offers more diverse and complex customization, as well as better role playing opportunities.

There's so many "facts" about this that people are taking for definite truths about this that it's rather sickening.

Perhaps star signs are more significant now? Complete one and it signifies you truly are destined to be born under the warrior, or a mage, or a thief and you get some kind of bonus or something?

Yeah I'm kinda disappointed birthsigns were cut too but I will reserve judgment on their choice to replace them with perks until after I've played the game.

one of the two dragonborn you speak to in oblivion, uriel septim, said he lives his life by the stars or something like that, seems like dovakhiin will as well.

Yeah, this basically sums up what I think about it too. I found the birthsigns to be constricting; this system will allow more freedom, which is what TES is about.
And about having the different constellations light up in the sky according to your skills... SO TIGHT!

Star's above Tamriel are litterally holes ripped in the sky from (insert name of old race I forgot here) escaping as Nirn was being made. The Dragonborn deciding to fight with more sword perks rather than axe perks shouldn't rip new holes in the sky, that doesn't make any sense.

Yeah I read that you wont be able to pick a birth sign at the start of the game instead the birth signs are in each skill (looking at the menus screenshot) and the perks you pick will actually make the star from the constellation slightly brighter in the sky. I'm probably wrong though.
Oh and I can imagine encumbrance will still be managed by the strength stat.

Who says birthsigns were cut? Where is this coming from?

Wow, that's really lame.

It's lame that the night sky, which has remained the same since the beginning of time, doesn't change based around the combat and life styles of one mortal, but that instead there's just a really cool menu feature?

What? I'm pretty sure I've seen a quote from Todd or Pete saying in GI that you can look up into the night sky and see the stars from the skills you selected.

Here's how I see it.

The lore is unharmed, even served by this transition. Yes, the stars contain power. Yes, constelations in the night sky fortell events, effect your life and play a role in your destiny. But it was the Emporer who was most obsessed with your Zodiac sign and how that played a role in his visions. Skyrim takes place 200 years after this man's death and your character is siezing his/her own destiny in the ends of days. The perks you choose will light up stars in the night sky and those constellations become yours. Your relationship with them is tangible. You WILL see them in the true night sky.

In our world, no one person is dictated by the exact sign of their birth and that alone. Even accepting it's all nonsense, you could cherry pick traits you see in yourself from all twelve signs. So in a world where these stars and their symbolism is real and holds true power, there still exists the potential to be your own person, sieze your own destiny, no matter your birthsign.
