Wrong Format Need Help.

Post » Thu Sep 23, 2010 1:03 am

Hey I downloaded several mods and I went to extract the files into c/programfiles/bethesda/oblivion/data and they all went in fine but when I went to select data files to play with I couldn't select all of them because several weren't in the list. I found out that the difference between the two was the format the ones that worked are called winrar files. and there were zip files and 7z files, some of them worked and some didn't

I don't know how to fix this if anyone could help it would be appreciated

Both http://www.rarlab.com/ and http://www.7-zip.org/ should handle all those formats.

Get http://www.7-zip.org/. It can extract all of those archive formats, and many more. :)

EDIT: got me, Arkngt... although, 7zip is FREE! (Winrar is too, but not the full version...)

Back up a moment.

Are you having a problem doing the extract from the downloaded archive, or selecting the mods when you start the game? If you try to tell Oblivion to open the archives instead of the extracted esp's you'd get that "wrong format" error.

There are at least two types of mods, those that have a plugin (esp) file, and therefore can be selected, and those that supply only replacement resources and have no esp file to select. The latter type are still working for you, although you may need to use a mod manager to make sure they combine properly.

tsari, save yourself a lot of trouble by reading this: http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/index.php?page=intro_to_mods

If you are starting into modded Oblivion, don't just randomly add mods - it is a surefire way to get a game crash. Also, you are doing manual installs - if the game screws up and crashes, you will have no way to delete the mod installed files, unless you use a mod manager like OBMM or BASH. See the link I posted, and read read read before you jump into this too fast and sink! That's friendly advice from somebody who has (long ago) been there and crashed too often to get frustrated with modded Oblivion...
