Wrye BASH locations, startup trouble

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:46 pm

OK I used to have this all set up already (about a year ago) and had already gone through the fires of " from noob to self sufficient mod user"....
Now I'm getting back and starting over, and hitting a stumbling block in getting wrye bash operational....
hoping one of you wonderful minds will snap me back to awareness as though snapping out of amnesia...

SOOO, WRYE WILL NOT START

I'm in vista, on the same computer as before

I have Oblivion installed in C://

Mopy
Data
Wrye
Wrye Python

those are all folders in the Oblivion folder

I can run oblivion right now, with some other mods (using OBMM)....

I tried to find my old posts, where I solved a lot of these kinds of problems but I guess they're too old and got deleted :( .

so, any tips for getting Wrye up and running, and any links to helpfull threads will be greatly appreciated thank you

First off, you have a beautiful cat! I don't like cats much, but my girlfriend has a siamese like the one in your pic, and I have to admit, I made an exception for him.

I thought I had it installed properly....I read the readme, and don't see how I did it incorrectly

I installed python first, then wrye

I'm wondering whether this has more to do with "where" my files are located......or whatever possible causes.....I really don't know

Try the instructions here: http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/prep/wrye-bash. The important files for Bash are all installed in your Oblivion folder.

Edit: wording, The requirements have "regular" installations, and are not specific to Oblivion.

here are the instructions.

# If you do not have it already, download and install 7-zip.
>> notes: You may have to restart your computer. If so, go ahead and do that now.

# Download the Bash dependencies: Python 2.6.4, wxpython 2.8.10.1 ansi , ComTypes, psyco 1.6 for Python 2.6, and PyWin32 for Python 2.6.
>> notes: 1) Make sure the version of ComTypes you download supports Python 2.6. 2) Some users have reported that using Python 2.6.5 works as well.

# Download the latest (archive) version of Wrye Bash and the Wrye Python 02 package.

# Install the Wrye Python 02 package: Extract and run the executables for the dependencies. "WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??

# Extract Wrye Bash to your Oblivion folder. (It should add the folder "Mopy" there.)
>> notes: Bash also adds a few folders to the Data folder as well.

# Create a Wrye Bash shortcut.

1. Right-click on Oblivion\Mopy\Wyre Bash Launcher.pyw
2. Choose "copy"
3. Right-click on the desktop or quick launch bar
4. Choose "paste shortcut."

"Extract and run the executables for the dependencies."WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??
Also, I was able to install Wrye without 7zip...is there something wrong with that??
If I need to start the WRYE installation over again, is there anything I should be on the lookout for??

Oops, that should just say run the Wrye Python 02 EXE. You can see in the earlier part of the instructions that the dependencies used to be installed separately. I will correct that now. Thank you. As for installing without 7-zip, that is fine too. I only recommend installing it because it can open all of the archive types in which mods tend to be packed. WinRAR can do this also. I should add a note about alternative programs, so that users that already have them do not bother downloading an additional application. You should not have to restart the installation, no worries.

Are you on Vista or Win7? Is the UAC on the Oblivion folder taken care of? I wonder if you need a special shortcut...

Edit: I do not have either, so I cannot test these, but hopefully the help. Please, let me know if you figure out the solution. I have to wonder about the Wrye Python 02 package...

Yeah windows 64 bit vista. I installed in the C:// hoping to avoid the vista issues. I used to have wrye and obmm and all that on this same system about a year ago...

well I just gave the oblivion folder full access...I had done so for the wyre stuff, not thinking to do so for the oblivion folder

Oh, I thought that you had done that for the Oblivion folder for some reason... That's the folder I recommend turning it off on since many utilities are installed there... Does this mean things are rolling again?

Check those pages over. It sounds like the different install location is not enough. One of the issues pointed out is wxPython. There are links to the separate requirements in my Wrye Bash instructions, with the strike through. Try installing that separately if it sounds like a possible problem for you, considering the pages I linked two posts ago.
